Meet your local guide and transfer to the hotel. Free evening in Tbilisi. *Optional Tbilisi City Tour for this day Start Tbilisi City Tour. Visit all main attractions of the city: Holy Trinity Cathedral (“Sameba”) built in 21st c. and being the main Christian Orthodox cathedral in Georgia. Continue to Metekhi Church of 13th c. located on the bank of Mtkvari River. Ride up to Narikala Fortress by the aerial cable car. Narikala fortress dates back to 4th century AD, it has a superb location with magnificent panoramic views over the Tbilisi city. Stroll down to Legvtakhevi (translated literally as “Fig Ravine”) – a beautiful place with waterfall, blooming plants and a small river. Take a walk in the park near Sulfur bathhouses, well-known for their healing powers, Shardeni street, its neighborhood and Meidan square with its outdoor cafes, galleries and souvenir shops. Cross the Bridge of Peace – a modern glass bridge in high-tech style. Visit Flea Market at Dry Bridge where you can buy the souvenirs and handicraft. Free time on Rustaveli Avenue. Overnight in Tbilisi. Day 2: Tbilisi-Tetritskaro-Dashbash Canyon-Tsalka-Poka- Ninotsminda-Vardzia Breakfast at the hotel. Meeting with the jeep company representative, passing the 4x4 WD vehicle and equipment for self-driving, filling the documents for jeep rental, and off to adventures! First, stop at Dashbashi Canyon-one of the most beautiful natural landmarks in the country. Its height is 1100-1500 meters and length is 8 km. On the way to Tsalka take a break at the lake Paravani and visit the female monastery Foka. Here you can buy different kinds of cheese and chocolate made by nuns. Pass picturesque villages Tetritskaro, Tsalka and Tabatskuri Lakes. Arrive in Vardzia for overnight. Day 3: Vardzia-Khertvisi-Ktsia Tabatskuri-Bakuriani- Borjomi-Akhaltsikhe Breakfast at the hotel. This day offers travelers wonderful opportunity to explore remote villages of Javakheti region, lakes and pastures, and the most attractive cave city Vardzia. Vardzia Cave Monastery was carved in the volcanic rocks on 13 levels in the 12th c, comprising six-floor complexes of caves, painted chapels, a monastery, bathes, libraries, and internal tunnels. Another highlight of the day is Khertvisi fortress-one of the oldest fortresses in Meskheti region, built in the 2nd century BC. Now part of a state heritage reserve, an extended area of Vardzia-Khertvisi has been submitted for future inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The route follows Ktsia-Tabatskuri protected area in Akhalkalaki Municipality. Tabatskhuri alpine lake, neighboring high mountainous wetlands, and alpine habitats are included in Ktsia-Tabatskhuri managed reserve, established in 2007. Pass Bakuriani skiing resort (1650m above sea level) and arrive in Spa city Borjomi, which served as Russian King’s Romanov family residence during the Tsarist rule over Georgia. It was designed by the architect Leon Benois for Grand Duke Nicholas in the late 1800s. Have a nice walk in Borjomi Central Park, where you can taste famous mineral spring water Borjomi and ride on a cable car to enjoy spectacular views over the town. Overnight in Akhaltsikhe town. Day 4: Akhaltsikhe-Adigeni-Goderdzi Pass-Khulo-Keda- Makhuntseti Waterfalls-Batumi Breakfast at the hotel. Drive to the seaside resort Batumi via Goderdzi pass-a merging link of Adjara and Samtskhe-Javakheti. Follow the way towards Khulo and Keda municipalities and have a rest at Makhuntseti waterfall-one of the highest waterfalls in Ajara, surrounded by pristine and unaltered nature, particularly intriguing for eco-tourists. While being at the waterfall it is also possible to visit nearby tourist attractions, including an ancient Makhuntseti stone Bridge, Adjarian wine house, and private wine cellars scattered throughout Keda Municipality. Arrive in Batumi and check in to the hotel. Day 5: Batumi-Ozurgeti-Tsitelmta-Martvili-Mukhuri Breakfast at the hotel. Pick up and start walking from Europe Square around Georgian Alphabet tower, visiting the following attractions and places: Batumi's Lighthouse, statues of Jason & Medea from Greek mythology, Summer Theatre, moving sculpture of Ali and Nino by Tamara Kvesitadze. Have a relaxing evening at Batumi Boulevard and enjoy the lights of dancing fountains. Leave Batumi and drive to Tsitelmta village, Guria region, where you will taste homemade Georgian lunch and tea at a rustic Farmhouse Komli, surrounded by tea plantation, bamboos, and small spring. Continue our trip to another natural landmark – Martvili Canyon, created millions of years ago by the Abasha river. You can get to the 7-meter high waterfall of the canyon by boat. From Martvili drive to a small village Mukhuri, stay in an authentic Mingrelian guesthouse, and discover the riches of Samegrelo region. Day 6: Mukhuri-Jvari-Becho Breakfast at the hotel. Travel to Becho commune and from there make shortstop under Guli Glacier. We drive on narrow tracks through coniferous and mixed forests. On the way visit little churches in the villages Latali and Lenjeri with 10th-12th cc frescoes. Enjoy evergreen pine forest, observe spectacular views of the magnificent Ushba summit and beautiful river gorge. Arrive in Becho and overnight. Day 7: Becho-Mestia Breakfast at the hotel. Start the mountain road journey to Mestia – an administrative center of Svaneti. Pass village Latali, containing churches decorated with medieval frescos and murals. Arrive in Mestia. Visit Svaneti Museum of History and Ethnography, which houses old Georgian manuscripts, ethnographic and archaeological items, Georgian Orthodox icons painted in Svanetian style, etc. Walk up to the tower and house museum of Margiani. In this tower-museum visitors can take a look at local dwelling – “Machubi”, and get introduced to the traditional lifestyle of the Svans. Overnight in Mestia. Day 8: Mestia-Ushguli Breakfast at the hotel. Explore Upper Svaneti and drive to Ushguli village – the highest continually inhabited places in Europe. The whole village with its fortifications is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The way to Ushguli is off-road but very picturesque. During the day you visit ancient villages: Mulakhi, Ipari, and Kala and see the churches rich of murals and frescos. Stop by Lamaria church in Ushguli - a sacred place for locals. Overnight in Ushguli. Day 9: Ushguli-Lentekhi-Ambrolauri Breakfast at the hotel and start driving to town Ambrolauri-an administrative center of Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti. Ushguli- Lentekhi road is getting more and more beautiful every second: authentic villages, whitewater river in the green valley, mountain meadows of flowers are the highlights on the way. Arrive in Ambrolauri-a small town with a population of 2,000 people located 550 m above sea level. Locals here are known for their singing skills and dedication to hard work. Racha-Lechkhumi maintains ancient traditions of vineyards and winemaking, been passed down through the generations. You will see Khvanchkara bottle (famous semi-sweet red wine, regarded as the favorite drink of Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Josef Stalin) standing in the center of the town center.
