This species and hence, the fisheries profitability and sustainability, are subject to large inter-annual variability in recruitment strength, mainly due to interannual and seasonal variations of the Falkland/Malvinas Current. In this working document we analyse the environmental, geographical, temporal and physical factors affecting the distribution (abundance) of D. gahi in two areas where its abundance is highest, using geographic information systems tools. We found a slight positive correlation between CPUE and longitude, as well as between CPUE and depth in the northern area, but no correlations could be found between SST and the other explanatory variables. Regarding the southern area in summer-autumn, we found that CPUE increases with longitude as we go to the east, and with latitude. We also found positive correlations between SST and CPUE, as well as with depth. In winter spring our study revealed a slight relationship between CPUE and location, and with depth.

    Marine Biodiversity (2020) 50:98 https://doi.org/10.1007/s12526-020-01113-4 REVIEW A review of Southern Ocean squids using nets and beaks Yves Cherel1 Received: 31 May 2020 /Revised: 31 August 2020 /Accepted: 3 September 2020 # Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung 2020 Abstract This review presents an innovative approach to investigate the teuthofauna from the Southern Ocean by combining two com- plementary data sets, the literature on cephalopod taxonomy and biogeography, together with predator dietary investigations. Sixty squids were recorded south of the Subtropical Front, including one circumpolar Antarctic (Psychroteuthis glacialis Thiele, 1920), 13 circumpolar Southern Ocean, 20 circumpolar subantarctic, eight regional subantarctic, and 12 occasional subantarctic species. A critical evaluation removed five species from the list, and one species has an unknown taxonomic status. The 42 Southern Ocean squids belong to three large taxonomic units, bathyteuthoids (n = 1 species), myopsids (n =1),andoegopsids (n = 40). A high level of endemism (21 species, 50%, all oegopsids) characterizes the Southern Ocean teuthofauna. Seventeen families of oegopsids are represented, with three dominating families, onychoteuthids (seven species, five endemics), ommastrephids (six species, three endemics), and cranchiids (five species, three endemics). Recent improvements in beak identification and taxonomy allowed making new correspondence between beak and species names, such as Galiteuthis suhmi (Hoyle 1886), Liguriella podophtalma Issel, 1908, and the recently described Taonius notalia Evans, in prep. Gonatus phoebetriae beaks were synonymized with those of Gonatopsis octopedatus Sasaki, 1920, thus increasing significantly the number of records and detailing the circumpolar distribution of this rarely caught Southern Ocean squid. The review extends considerably the number of species, including endemics, recorded from the Southern Ocean, but it also highlights that the corresponding species to two well-described beaks (Moroteuthopsis sp.

Abstract. – A new Eurybiini of the genus Alesa from French Guiana (Lepidoptera, Riodinidae). A new species of the genus Alesa Doubleday, 1847, from French Guiana, Alesa humilis n. sp., is described and compared with two closely allied species, A. telephae (Boisduval, 1836) and A. amethystina Gallard & Fernandez, 2015. (COLEOPTERA, SCARABAEIDAE, ONITICELLINI) Tristão Branco Rua de Camões, 788, 2º Dto, P-4000-142 Porto, Portugal − [email protected] Abstract: The taxonomical history of the genus Tiniocellus Péringuey, 1901 and the 10 species-group names that have been associated with it is reviewed, and the reasons that justify the creation of Nitiocellus gen. n. for Oniticellus panthera Boucomont, 1921 and Oniticellus collarti Janssens, 1939, are explained. The taxonomy of the Oniticellini is briefly reviewed and a key is provided for the separation of Tiniocellus and Nitiocellus gen. n. from all the other genera currently ranged in the tribe. The synonymies of Oniticellus variegatus Fåhraeus, 1857 and Oniticellus humilis Gerstaecker, 1871 with Tiniocellus spinipes (Roth, 1851) are confirmed. The Asian Tiniocellus imbellis (Bates, 1891) and the African Tiniocellus setifer (Kraatz, 1895) are rehabilitated as good species. Oniticellus modestus Arrow, 1908 is synonymised with T. imbellis, and Tiniocellus asmarensis Balthasar, 1968 with T. spinipes. Three Afrotropical species, one of them containing two subspecies, are described: T. praetermissus sp. n. from western Africa, T. dolosus sp. n. from eastern, central and western Africa, T. eurypygus sp. n. from South Africa, the nominotypical subspecies from the uplands west of the Drakensberg mountain range, and T. eurypygus transdrakensbergensis ssp. n. from the lowlands east of the same mountain range. Keys are provided to the species and sub- species of Tiniocellus, and to the species of Nitiocellus gen. n. For this study 4,628 specimens were examined, including the name-bearing types of all the species-group names, except that of T.

This document has been submitted by the Animals Committee.* Background 2. At its 16th meeting (CoP16, Bangkok, 2013), the Conference of the Parties adopted the following interrelated decisions on freshwater stingrays: Directed to the Secretariat 16.130 The Secretariat shall issue a Notification requesting the range States of freshwater stingrays (Family Potamotrygonidae) to report on the conservation status and management of, and domestic and international trade in the species. Directed to the Animals Committee 16.131 The Animals Committee shall establish a working group comprising the range States of freshwater stingrays in order to evaluate and duly prioritize the species for inclusion in CITES Appendix II. 16.132 The Animals Committee shall consider all information submitted on freshwater stingrays in response to the request made under Decision 16.131 above, and shall: a) identify species of priority concern, including those species that meet the criteria for inclusion in Appendix II of the Convention; b) provide specific recommendations to the range States of freshwater stingrays; and c) submit a report at the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties on the progress made by the working group, and its recommendations and conclusions. * The geographical designations employed in this document do not imply the expression of any opinion whatsoever on the part of the CITES Secretariat (or the United Nations Environment Programme) concerning the legal status of any country, territory, or area, or concerning the delimitation of its frontiers or boundaries.
