On 27 November 2018 Mrs. Charlene de Carvalho and Mr. Jean-François van Boxmeer officially opened the new Heritage Quarter. This is more than just a collection depot. Due to its set-up, it also increases the visibility of the collection and stimulates the sharing of the collection with guests of the Heineken Experience and with our target audiences. The board of the HCF would like to thank Mrs. de Carvalho for her 3 continuous encouragement, Mr. Van Boxmeer for his very personal input, the Executive Board of Heineken N.V. for its financial support 40 and Mrs. Lieke Westendorp – managing director of the Heineken Experience – for her very close daily involvement and guidance. In this very active year a lot of work had to be handled simultaneously. This put a strain on all persons involved. The board would like to thank the collection manager – Mrs. Demelza van der Maas – and her team, for the professionalism and enthusiasm of their activities and for their hard work and dedication. The HCF will continue to inform and inspire a worldwide audience by preserving, collecting and sharing compelling and authentic objects connected to Heineken – the company, the brand and the family. • Investigate Succession in a Family Business in the Beer Industry
Succession in a Family Business in the Beer Industry by Bertram S. Human Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the degree of Masters in Business Administration at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University Nov 2013 Promoter/Supervisor: Dr. M Cullen ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the following: During the theoretical part of the MBA, NMMU assigned me to Syndicate Group 7.1. I would like to thank this group for all the hard work and for staying so focused on delivery. An informal group developed with members from across other formal groups named “Da BORG”. To Da BORG I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation and acknowledgement for their contribution in my intellectual growth during this journey. Dr. M. Cullen persevered with me and for this I am grateful. Lance Kajokoto was a steady rock and his quest for excellence was motivating. I have been encouraged by the struggles of the lives of Rev RBJ and Mrs. Human (De and Ma). I express thanks to my wife and son for the unwavering support through this entire journey. I give glory to God my Maker who has blessed me with an abundance in every aspect of my life. i ABSTRACT Every business organisation has a unique set of challenges and problems. The family business is mainly affected by personal factors and family political influences. Most family business political influences are based on succession. Many of these problems exist in corporate business environments, but can be exaggerated in a family business. Family businesses go through various stages of growth and development over time.

I hope you are all waking up. The title of my presentation is Delivering on Strategy. We will focus the whole day and tomorrow on Asia, and in particular Vietnam as it is the poster child of what is happening at its best here in Asia. And I hope you will enjoy taking the ride and discovering Asia with us. I think the last time we were here hosting a financial market conference in Asia was in Singapore in 2011, if I recall well. That was just one year ahead of our acquisition of the share of APB that we didn't own at the time. Don't derive from the fact that we organised a financial conference again in Asia any large scale acquisition in a year's time from now. So I want to take away all kinds of that speculation. Delivering on strategy - you will allow me to take a little bit of a wider look, because strategy is something that is done on the long term and not on the short term.

  • The History of Heineken
The history of Heineken The Heineken family entered the beer business in 1864, when Gerard Adriaan Heineken bought a brewery in the heart of Amsterdam. Over the past 140 years, three generations of the Heineken family have built and expanded the brand and the company in Europe and around the world. It is thanks to the leadership of Gerard, Henry and Alfred Heineken that Heineken is one of the world’s leading brewing groups. Today Charlene de Carvalho- Heineken is delegate member of the Board of directors of Heineken Holding N.V. 1864 22-year-old businessman Gerard Adriaan Heineken purchases the "The Haystack" brewery, the largest in the region. He demands and receives full control of shares, realising that sweeping and rapid changes are needed. 1868 To meet increasing consumer demand, a new brewery is built in Amsterdam at the Buitensingel. 1869 Gerard Heineken decides to switch from traditional top fermentation to the Bavarian method of bottom fermentation, a totally different technique that produces a clearer, purer beer, which keeps longer. The new beer is known for its quality and is called 'Gentleman's Beer' as opposed to 'Workman's Ale'. A decade of fierce competition begins, with several new breweries competing for the high- quality beer market. Heineken must again start making cheaper workman's beers and gets into the business of cafes, hotels, and beer houses to secure purchasers. Brewers take on the role of banks, providing credit and extravagant extra benefits to win over clients. 1870 Due to the Franco-Prussian war, imports of Bavarian beer dry up, causing Heineken's sales to skyrocket.
