Ridgmont Personal Care August 2020 Looking Back: Gilligan's Island Ridgmont Personal Care August 2020 Looking Back: Gilligan’s Island Gilligan's Island is an American sitcom created and produced by Sherwood Schwartz. The show had an ensemble cast that featured Bob Denver, Alan Hale Jr., Jim Backus, Natalie Schafer, Russell Johnson, Tina Louise, and Dawn Wells. The show featured a two-man crew of the charter boat SS Minnow and five passengers on a "three-hour tour" from Honolulu run into a typhoon and are shipwrecked on an uncharted island somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. Their efforts to be rescued are typically thwarted by the inadvertent conduct of the hapless first mate, Gilligan. It aired for three seasons on the CBS network from September 26, 1964, to April 17, 1967. The series followed the comic adventures of seven castaways as they attempted to survive on an island on which they had been shipwrecked. Most episodes revolve around the dissimilar castaways' conflicts and their unsuccessful attempts, for whose failure Gilligan was frequently responsible, to escape their plight. Gilligan's Island ran for 98 episodes. All thirty-six episodes of the first season were filmed in black and white and were later colorized for syndication. The show's second and third seasons (62 episodes) and the three television movie sequels (aired between 1978 and 1982) were filmed in color. The show received solid ratings during its original run, then grew in popularity during decades of syndication, especially in the 1970s and 1980s when many markets ran the show in the late afternoon. Today, the title character of Gilligan is widely recognized as an American cultural icon. Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Gillian's Island by Cat Johnson 15 Fateful Facts About Gilligan’s Island. The 98 th —and final—episode of Gilligan’s Island was broadcast on April 17, 1967. Though never a critical favorite, the show was still a solid ratings hit and the cast and crew had every expectation of returning in the fall for a fourth season. But at the last minute CBS needed to find some room on the schedule for Gunsmoke , the favorite show of Babe Paley, wife of network president William Paley. So Gilligan got the axe and, at least as far as viewers know, the cast is still stranded somewhere in the Pacific. Forty-eight years after that final wrap party, however, Gilligan’s Island is still on the air. It was sold into syndication and has been broadcasting reruns continuously in 30 different languages around the world. Just sit right back and you’ll hear some tales of everyone’s favorite castaways. 1. IT WAS INTENDED TO BE A “METAPHORICAL SHAMING OF WORLD POLITICS.” One day in a public speaking class at New York University, the professor had students compose an impromptu one-minute speech on this topic: If you were stranded on a desert island, what one item would you like to have? Sherwood Schwartz was a student in that class, and the question so intrigued him that it remained lodged in the back of his mind for many years. After working for some time as a comedy writer for other shows, Schwartz decided to pitch his own idea for a sitcom.

  • 2007-2008, Covering the Period July 1, 2007 Through June 30, 2008
Message from the President Dear Friends, There was much to celebrate during this past year at Marywood University. From a personal perspective, it was a transformative experience to serve my inaugural year as Marywood’s 11th president. However, I do not and could not do this alone. While this special year has provided an exciting backdrop, the meaningful role that each of you plays in shaping the future of this University is the underpinning of what continues to inspire and create our outstanding progress. In keeping with the spirit of progress, we decided this year to produce a “green” President’s Report— a solely online piece—to reduce our use of paper products and take another positive step in our ongoing efforts to cultivate and practice environmental stewardship. According to The Chronicle of Higher Education, “institutions of higher education are poised to play a leading role in developing and executing climate-neutral policies.” (“A Green Curriculum Involves Everyone on the Campus,” by John Peterson, June 20, 2008 issue) Marywood University continues to evaluate its current practices and engage in future initiatives with environmental considerations in mind—for the benefit of our students, our campus, our community, and our world. This report represents the fiscal year 2007-2008, covering the period July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008. Please accept my deepest appreciation for all you have done to advance the goals, initiatives, and mission of Marywood University. I am enthusiastic about the progress we have made, as well as the momentum we continue to generate, and I look to our future with great optimism and abundant hope.
