On Thursday 6 October, 2011 at 8pm Saxophonist will celebrate the life and music of , marking the 20th anniversary year of Miles’ death.

Dave Liebman, having performed with Miles Davis in the past, will talk about working with one of the most influential musicians of the last century and will perform the music of Miles Davis with Dublin band Trilogue featuring Ronan Guilfoyle, bass; Sarah Beuchi, voice and Izumi Kimura, piano.

Dave Liebman has been consistently placed among the top finalists for Soprano in the Downbeat Critics Poll for over thirty years and just this year was placed first in the Times Critics Poll. He is described as being "among the most important saxophonists in contemporary music . . . a leader and artist of integrity and independent direction" by Downbeat Magazine.

Liebman’s career has spanned over forty years. He can boast nearly 350 recordings and he has played with many of the masters including , , John McLaughlin, McCoy Tyner and Miles Davis. He has also authored books and instructional DVDs which are acknowledged as classics in the jazz field; recorded as a leader in styles ranging from classical to rock to free jazz; is recipient of the NEA Masters of Jazz Award (2011); founded the International Association of Schools of Jazz (IASJ); is a multiple Grammy nominee; inducted into the International Association of Jazz Educator's Hall of Fame; is the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from the Sibelius Academy (Helsinki, Finland) and the Order of Arts and Letters from the French government.

Liebman is one of many of the world’s most notable jazz musicians to have played with Davis as part of his bands and groups which included musicians Branford Marsalis, , Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, , and amongst others. Born May 1926 Miles Davis was an American jazz musician, trumpeter, bandleader and composer who continues to be widely considered as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. He was at the forefront of several major developments in jazz music including , jazz fusions, cool jazz, and . The Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock & Roll noted “Miles Davis played a crucial and inevitably controversial role in every major development in jazz since the mid- ‘40s, and no other jazz musician has had so profound an effect on rock. Miles Davis was the most widely recognized jazz musician of his era, an outspoken social critic and an arbiter of style—in attitude and fashion—as well as music”.
