PRESS BRIEF New Delhi, dt. 06.03.2019 NOIDA CITY CENTRE – NOIDA ELECTRONIC CITY METRO CORRIDOR READY FOR OPERATIONS The 6.675 kilometre long NOIDA City Centre – NOIDA Electronic City Metro corridor, which will connect many new areas of NOIDA with the rest of the National Capital Region (NCR) is now ready for operations. This extension of the presently operational Dwarka Sector 21 – NOIDA City Centre Blue Line comprises of six elevated stations. Corridor Details: ● Distance: 6.675 kms long ● Stations: 06 (Sector 34, Sector 52, Sector 61, Sector 59, Sector 62 and NOIDA Electronic City). ● This corridor is completely elevated and will be on Broad Gauge. ● The stations are on the Central verge and the alignment is running close to NH – 24. ● After the opening of this section, the Dwarka Sector 21 – NOIDA Electronic City Blue Line will become 56.46 kilometres long. ● The Delhi Metro will have a network of 343 kilometres with 250 stations across the NCR. (Excluding the NOIDA – Greater NOIDA Aqua Line). ● The entire Dwarka Sector 21 – Electronic City Blue Line corridor will be Delhi Metro’s second longest Metro corridor after the 59 kilometre long Majlis Park – Shiv Vihar corridor of Phase 3. Connectivity Benefits: ● This section will be a major boost for many residential localities in sectors 34, 52 and 22 as well as commercial areas in Sector 59, 61, 62 and Electronic City. ● The last station i.e. NOIDA Electronic City is at the Noida – Ghaziabad border. Therefore, residents of the neighbouring Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh will also get benefitted by this enhanced connectivity. ● NOIDA’s Sector 61, 62 as well as Electronic City consist of many corporate offices as well as commercial enclaves. A lot of people travel to these locations everyday from the entire NCR. This population will also get benefitted. ● Two major hospitals in the vicinity – Fortis hospital and Life Care Hospital will also get direct Metro connectivity. In Delhi, Metro is available near many hospitals such as AIIMS, Safdarjung, Gangaram and Fortis Escorts. Such connectivity near hospitals is a boon for patients and relatives visiting them. The same benefits will also reach the people of NOIDA now. ● Parking facility will be provided at the Sector 52 and NOIDA Electronic City stations. Major Highlights The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for the first time has installed six (06) Monopole Towers for Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. (UPPTCL) at Noida Sector – 34. These Monopole Towers are 61.2 mts high and are the highest for any Monopole Tower in India. A Monopole Tower is a new type of electricity and Wi – Fi Transmission Tower which takes up less space as compared to the conventional Tower (also called Lattice Tower). The electricity transmission lines of UPPTCL were infringing the alignment of the corridor in Sector 34, hence DMRC decided to raise the height of these transmission lines. The area is heavily populated and also sees a great volume of traffic on a daily basis, hence raising the height of the towers was not an easy task. The decision to install Monopole Towers in place of the conventional Lattice Towers was taken to reduce land requirement and save land cost. The space required by a conventional transmission tower was 245 sq mts per tower, whereas one Monopole Tower required only 33.26 sq mts land. Each Monopole Tower weighs around 40 tonnes. To further curtail the requirement of land, two transmission lines were clubbed into one Monopole Tower. These Monopole Towers were erected using heavy duty cranes of 400 tonnes capacity. Heavy machinery and trailers were also used in the erection of these towers, which was extremely difficult considering the densely populated area. DMRC took adequate safety precautions while erecting the Monopole Towers. Testing of the entire structure was done by experts from IIT Mumbai and IIT Roorkee. The entire alignment of the NOIDA City Centre – NOIDA Electronic City corridor passes through extremely congested roads with massive traffic volumes. However, DMRC completed the construction work without creating any major traffic diversions or blockades. There were multiple underpasses that move along the alignment but DMRC’s construction was meticulously planned keeping these challenges in mind. The NOIDA Electronic City (NEC) station has been constructed at a height of about 21 metres, making it one of the highest stations of the Delhi Metro network. The viaduct adjacent to the station passes above the National Highway 24, where provision has been kept for the construction of a flyover. The proposed flyover would pass below the Metro viaduct as a result of which the height of the viaduct as well as the station had to be increased. The NOIDA Electronic City also has a third track, which leads to the new depot of the Delhi Metro which is currently under construction at NOIDA Sector 63. The NEC station also has provisions for property development as well as parking. Operations Plan Trains will be available at a frequency of 05 minutes and 26 seconds during the peak hours from NOIDA City Centre to NOIDA Electronic City. The total running time between NOIDA City Centre and NOIDA Electronic City will be 12 Minutes and 23 Seconds. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Phase 3 progress details: Sections opened so far: 136.62 (137) kilometers Sl.
