FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE APRIL 22, 2019 STANLEY CUP PLAYOFF SECOND-ROUND BERTHS AT STAKE IN GAME 7 DOUBLEHEADER TUESDAY NEW YORK (April 22, 2019) -- Two Stanley Cup Playoff series will be decided in a Game 7 doubleheader Tuesday when the Boston Bruins play host to the Toronto Maple Leafs (7 p.m., ET, NBCSN, Sportsnet, CBC, TVAS), followed by the San Jose Sharks facing the Vegas Golden Knights (10 p.m., ET, NBCSN, Sportsnet, TVAS). The past two playoff series between the Bruins and Maple Leafs have culminated in unprecedented Game 7 drama, both occurring at TD Garden. In 2013, Boston became the first team in NHL history to overcome a three-goal, third-period deficit to win a Game 7 (Boston 5, Toronto 4 ,OT). In 2018, the Bruins became the first team in League history to overcome three deficits of at least one goal to win a Game 7 in regulation (Boston 7, Toronto 4). Five current Bruins appeared in both the 2013 and 2018 contests: goaltender Tuukka Rask, defenseman Zdeno Chara and forwards Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand and David Krejci. Two Maple Leafs players have done so: defenseman Jake Gardiner and forward Nazem Kadri. Chara (0-4--4 in 12 GP) is set to tie an NHL record by playing in his 13th career Game 7, joining all-time co-leaders Patrick Roy and Scott Stevens. • Turnbull Hockey Pool For
Turnbull Hockey Pool for Each year, Turnbull students participate in several fundraising initiatives, which we promote as a way to develop a sense of community, leadership and social responsibility within the students. Last year's grade 7 and 8 students put forth a great deal of effort campaigning friends and family members to join Turnbull's annual NHL hockey pool, raising a total of $1750 for a charity of their choice (the United Way). This year's group has decided to run the hockey pool for the benefit of Help Lesotho, an international development organization working in the AIDS-ravaged country of Lesotho in southern Africa. From www.helplesotho.org "Help Lesotho’s programs foster hope and motivation in those who are most in need: orphans, vulnerable children, at-risk youth and grandmothers. Our work targets root causes and community priorities, including literacy, youth leadership training, school twinning, child sponsorship and gender programming. Help Lesotho is an effective, sustainable organization that is working at the grass-roots level to support the next generation of leaders in Lesotho." Your participation in this year's NHL hockey pool is very much appreciated. We believe it will provide students and their friends and families an opportunity to have fun together while giving back to their community by raising awareness and funds for a great cause. Prizes: > Grand Prize awarded to contestant whose team accumulates the most points over the regular NHL season = 10" Samsung Galaxy Tablet > Monthly Prizes awarded to the contestants whose teams accumulate the most points over each designated period (see website) = Two Movie Passes How it Works: > Everyone in the community is welcome to join in on the fun.

Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips December 31, 2015 Capitals score 4 in third, rally for 5-2 win over Sabres By Jeff Seidel AP December 31, 2015 WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Capitals entered the third period Wednesday night with key players injured, missing good scoring chances and trailing by a goal. Then Alex Ovechkin scored twice during a four-goal rally and the Capitals beat the Buffalo Sabres 5-2 to extend their winning streak to nine games and overtake the Dallas Stars for the NHL points lead. "Tonight, you saw some backbone when it was needed," Washington coach Barry Trotz said. "It (was) an opportunity for guys to step up and they did. There wasn't any excuses." The four-goal third period came after the team lost forward Jay Beagle to an upper-body injury and center Nicklas Backstrom to an unspecific injury in the second period. Beagle will undergo surgery and miss significant time. Backstrom's injury was not disclosed and he could play Thursday at the Carolina Hurricanes. Washington already was playing without top defenseman John Carlson, out with a lower-body injury. Despite that, the Capitals turned around Buffalo's 2-1 lead quickly. "We are pretty relentless as a team," Washington goalie Braden Holtby said. "(Obviously, the injuries) makes it tougher. Those guys play a huge role on our team but we are just going to have to find different ways to win if they are out. " Trotz shifted Marcus Johansson from left wing to center and moved Evgeny Kuznetsov to center on the top line.

Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips December 20, 2014 Avalanche-Sabres Preview By Jeff Mezydlo Associated Press December 19, 2014 Though the Buffalo Sabres' longest winning streak of the season has ended, their confidence remains high. Eagerly looking to get back on track, the Sabres try to end their struggles against the visiting Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night. Buffalo (13-17-2) totaled 14 goals during a four-game winning streak but showed little offensive punch in Tuesday's 5-1 loss at Winnipeg. "You never like to lose but it's almost a reminder that you have to be at your best, have to be sharp," said defenseman Josh Gorges, who hopes to return Saturday after missing the last two games with an apparent finger injury. "We'll be ready for the next one." The defeat was only the fourth in 14 games for the Sabres, who believe it's just a blip on the screen. "Confidence is a major thing in sports, and in general," forward Patrick Kaleta said. "Confidence is big for us. The older guys have to put it in the minds of the younger guys that it's just a speed bump and everything is all right. "You come together as a team and you don't dwell on it. Learn from the game, move on and get better." The Sabres need to shore up defensively after allowing 15 goals in four games and at least three for the sixth time in the last seven. Nikita Zadorov's power-play goal late in the first period opened the scoring, but was all Buffalo could muster on 28 shots.
