LAST GAME: Dec. 30, 5-2 loss at Pittsburgh: Malkin (two goals, one assist) and Guentzel (one goal, two assists) each contributed three points in powering the Penguins to a 5-2 win over the Senators at PPG Paints Arena. Guentzel's marker at 6:55 of the third period saw him reach the 20-goal plateau for the second consecutive season with what was the 200th point of his NHL career but the play also resulted in him being lost to injury for what was expected to be the remainder of the season. Hornqvist (one goal, one assist) and Rust (two assists) also registered multi-point efforts to help Pittsburgh improve to 13-1-1 against the Senators at the venue which replaced Mellon Arena. Paul matched his NHL career high in scoring twice for Ottawa. Jarry made 24 saves to earn his sixth consecutive win in goal for the Penguins while Hogberg turned aside 28 shots in a losing effort for the visitors. COACH SMITH: D.J. Smith was introduced as the Senators' 14th head coach in franchise history on May 23, 2019. A native of Windsor, Ont., Smith spent the four previous NHL seasons as an assistant coach with the -- the team against which he made his NHL head coaching debut on Oct. 2. Prior to joining the Maple Leafs (which was also the team for which he made his NHL playing debut in 1996-97), Smith guided the 's to a record of 135-53-3-13 over three campaigns which included his having been recognized as the OHL’s Coach of the Year in 2013-14. One year later, he helped the team capture the Mastercard Memorial Cup.

THREE ALTERNATES FOR NOW: In conjunction with the start of the team's 2019-20 training camp, the Senators announced that the team would deploy three full-time alternate captains this season in veterans Mark Borowiecki, Ron Hainsey and Jean-Gabriel Pageau. For Hainsey, the team's leader in NHL career games played (1,104), the Senators represent the third different NHL club (Atlanta, Carolina) for which he has worn an 'A'. Borowiecki and Pageau, who were selected by the club (in 2008 and 2011) are serving as full- time alternates for the first time in their respective careers. Both players, who each maintain strong community ties in addition to on-ice leadership qualities, were born in Ottawa.

DEUCES ARE WILD FOR PAULY: Senators forward Nick Paul reached the 20-point plateau (10 goals, 10 assists) for his NHL career when he tallied both of Ottawa's markers in Monday's 5-2 setback to the Penguins in Pittsburgh. A native of Mississauga, Ont., the two- goal effort was Paul's second of the season and saw him move into a tie (C. Brown) for seventh place among Ottawa goal scorers this season, despite the fact that he's played fewer games (35) than all but one (Anisimov, 22) of the team's top 10 players in goal scoring this season. Ahead of tonight's game versus Florida, Paul's plus-two rating over four career games against the Panthers represents his best output against any of the teams which he's yet to record at least one point for his NHL career.

With his seventh career four-point game (2-2-4) Dec. 29 vs. MTL, his third in his past seven games, Huberdeau reached the 50-point mark in his 38th game of the season. Pavel Bure is the only Panther in franchise history to reach 50 points in fewer games (34 GP in 1999-00). Huberdeau's +5 rating Dec. 29 was the highest plus-minus by a Panther this season. Huberdeau is tied for fourth-most assists (37) and is tied for seventh-most points (53) in the league. He leads FLA in goals (16), assists, points, even-strength points (35) and power-play points (18), and he leads all FLA forwards in plus-minus (+10). Huberdeau has 16 points (5-11-16) over his past seven games. He has notched two goals in a game four times this season and has posted multiple points in 15 games.

He leads all Panthers forwards with 20:02 time on ice per game and ranks second on the team in shots (106).

CHASING FRANCHISE HISTORY With a four-point performance (2-2-4) Dec. 29 vs. MTL, Jonathan Huberdeau moved within one goal of tying Nathan Horton for sixth- most goals scored in franchise history. Huberdeau is also seven points away from tying Olli Jokinen for most points in Panthers history. Aleksander Barkov's three points (2-1-3) in the same game moved him four goals shy of tying Pavel Bure for third-most goals in FLA history, and seven points shy of Stephen Weiss for second-most assists. COOKIE MONSTER Noel Acciari tallied his career-high 13th goal of the season Dec. 29 vs. MTL. It was his eighth goal in the month of December, which led FLA and was tied for 12-most goals over the past month among all NHL skaters. Acciari was named the NHL's First Star of the Week for the week ending Dec. 22. Over three games from Dec. 16-21, Acciari recorded seven goals and eight points, ranking second in the league behind Jonathan Huberdeau (2-8-10). Pavel Bure (8G from Feb. 10-16, 2001) was the only FLA player in franchise history to tally more goals over a three-game span. Acciari recorded his second consecutive hat trick, and added an assist, Dec. 20 vs. DAL. The Johnston, R.I., native was the second Panthers player in franchise history to notch consecutive three-goal performances, joining Bure (Feb. 10-14, 2001). Acciari leads the team with four game-winning goals, 67 hits, and 2:32 of shorthanded time on ice per game. He ranks second on FLA in blocked shots (55). The Panthers are 8-1-0 when Acciari tallies a goal.

DON'T WAKE DADDY Evgenii Dadonov notched two assists Dec. 29 vs. MTL, his eighth multi-point game of the season. He has three points (1-2-3) over his past three games. Dadonov tallied his his sixth power-play goal of the season Dec. 28 vs. DET, tied for most PPGs on FLA. He has four points (2-2-4) in his past six games. The Chelyabinsk, Russia, native owns the third-most goals on FLA (14) and sits third on the team in shots (101).

MAGIC MIKE Mike Matheson recorded a career-high three points (1-2-3) Dec. 29 vs. MTL, his first multi-point game of the season. Over his past 10 games, Matheson has six points (3-3-6 since Dec. 8). This season, the Panthers are 6-0-0 when Matheson registers a point.

COUNT ON ANTON Anton Stralman notched an assist Dec. 31 at CBJ, his third point in three games (1-2-3). Stralman's three-game point streak is his longest of the season. The native of Tibro, Sweden, leads FLA in blocked shots (59) and leads the club's defensemen in shorthanded time on ice per game (2:25), and is second on the team in even-strength time on ice per game (18:33).

HOFF THE WALL Mike Hoffman tied his season-high with three points (1-2-3) Dec. 28 vs. DET. It was his 30th career multi-assist game. Hoffman owns the third-most power-play goals on FLA (5) and is tied for fourth-most goals scored (13). The Kitchener, Ontario, native leads the team in shots (109).

HIGHWAY BOBBERY Sergei Bobrovsky recorded his 14th win of the season Dec. 29 vs. MTL. Bobrovsky owns a .917 save percentage and a .936 even- strength save percentage over 10 starts since Dec. 7. With his win vs. CBJ on Dec. 7, he became the 11th active goaltender to record a victory against each of the 31 current NHL teams (Per NHL PR). He owns a 14-11-4 record this season. The Novokuznetsk, Russia, native has 34 shutouts in his career and one this season with FLA (Nov. 2 vs. DET). Bobrovsky has posted 23 shutouts since 2015-16, the most in the NHL over that span.

IRON YANDS Keith Yandle's 30 points rank third on FLA and are seventh-most among defensemen in the NHL. His 26 assists are fourth-most by a D-man in the league. He is tied for second-most power-play points on the Panthers (15), which is tied for second-most by a D-man in the league. His 13 power-play assists are tied for third-most among defensemen.
