Some questions for Boom for Real: what tools, what language, what new ways of being together do we have now that we didn’t have then with which to read the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat? How has the work changed (which is also to ask, how have we changed)? And how does the work read us now? Fortuitously a new commission, Purple, is currently on show in the Curve by the ferociously brilliant artist John Akomfrah , who claims Basquiat as an influence. Housing Akomfrah and Basquiat at the same institution changes the conversation. This is a crucial time to look at Basquiat again given major global cultural shifts including the rise of more African- American, Caribbean, Latin American and other diaspora artists and writers; the rise of ’First World’ discourses on diaspora; the rise of intersectional black theories (such as black feminist theory, black queer theory, etc) and new histories of black expressive cultures; the rise of critical theory; the rise of alternative histories of conceptualism; the rise and increasing visibility of black immigrants in North America and Europe; the development of institutional support for the arts outside of North America and Europe (through museums, festivals, prizes, biennials, 3 etc); and the endurance and renewal of anti-colonial and black radical movements that continue to fight institutional racism in all spheres. -

An Analysis of Hegemonic Social Structures in "Friends"
"I'LL BE THERE FOR YOU" IF YOU ARE JUST LIKE ME: AN ANALYSIS OF HEGEMONIC SOCIAL STRUCTURES IN "FRIENDS" Lisa Marie Marshall A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY August 2007 Committee: Katherine A. Bradshaw, Advisor Audrey E. Ellenwood Graduate Faculty Representative James C. Foust Lynda Dee Dixon © 2007 Lisa Marshall All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Katherine A. Bradshaw, Advisor The purpose of this dissertation is to analyze the dominant ideologies and hegemonic social constructs the television series Friends communicates in regard to friendship practices, gender roles, racial representations, and social class in order to suggest relationships between the series and social patterns in the broader culture. This dissertation describes the importance of studying television content and its relationship to media culture and social influence. The analysis included a quantitative content analysis of friendship maintenance, and a qualitative textual analysis of alternative families, gender, race, and class representations. The analysis found the characters displayed actions of selectivity, only accepting a small group of friends in their social circle based on friendship, gender, race, and social class distinctions as the six characters formed a culture that no one else was allowed to enter. iv ACKNOWLEDGMENTS This project stems from countless years of watching and appreciating television. When I was in college, a good friend told me about a series that featured six young people who discussed their lives over countless cups of coffee. Even though the series was in its seventh year at the time, I did not start to watch the show until that season. -

Even if industrial bronchitis has long been known, new occupational hazards continue to emerge and enlarge the number of people exposed to risk. This review discusses the challenges related to the early detection of oCOPD, in the context of new exposures and of limited usage of methods for an efficient disease occupational screening. It underlines that a better translation into clinical practice of the new methods for lung function impairment measurements, imaging techniques, or the use of serum or exhaled breath inflammation biomarkers could add significant value in the early detection of oCOPD. Such an approach would increase the chance to Citation: Libu, C.; Otelea, M.R.; stop exposure at an earlier moment and to prevent or at least slow down the further deterioration of Arghir, I.A.; Rascu, A.; Antoniu, S.A.; the lung function as a result of exposure to occupational (inhaled) hazards. -
If This Is How They React to Taking the Knee, Please Keep
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ If this is how they react to taking the knee, please keep politicians out of sport The rightwingers who condemn the players’ anti-racism protest are clearly people who don’t even like football ‘Boris Johnson feels unable to condemn those people booing England footballers who take the knee before matches.’ England’s Jack Grealish (in blue), before the friendly against Romania in Middlesbrough. Marina Hyde Tue 8 Jun 2021 “Let’s keep politics out of football this summer,” intoned Nigel Farage, a politician, releasing his second video about football in a 24-hour period. Nigel has reached the top, which is to say that he now operates out of a loft conversion in an undisclosed location. From this nerve centre, he also kept politics out of sport by tweeting multiple times about the decision to suspend a test cricketer for historical tweets. Could fans get Nigel to say the exact opposite for coins on Cameo? It’ll cost you £75 to find out. Either way, Farage was joined in his Corinthian endeavours by culture war secretary Oliver Dowden, who informed the world that the England and Wales Cricket Board had gone “over the top … and should think again”. Like Boris Johnson, meanwhile, Oliver seemingly feels unable to condemn those people booing England footballers who take the knee before matches – but he would doubtless feel way more comfortable condemning the very noisy section of England supporters who bellow No Surrender on the fourth line of the national anthem at every single fixture. And yet, I’m going to shock you, Oliver: THEY’RE THE SAME PEOPLE. -

Band's Former Manager and Creative Consultant, De- "We Were Just 'Watch and See,' " He Says
"When we put the last record out, iTunes were prob- ably the fifth or sixth account," he says. "To come back on this record and have them be the No. 1 account in America, that's probably one of the biggest, most sig- nificant differences." At iTunes, digital album pre- orders began May 6, when "Violet Hill" became available as a download, with consumers able to secure a bonus track to be de- livered with it on album release day. The street date version of the album via iTunes will have a different exclusive bonus track, plus an exclusive music video. Holmes also cites the growth of YouTube as a new factor. "So that's a part of your marketing plan now, which it wouldn't have been three -and -a -half years ago. I was cleaning my desk out recently and found an old MySpace marketing plan when they'd come to us on the last record, [when] they had about 400,000 members. We did a big promotion with them, but it's funny looking back that that was a new platform, and social networking in general was not part of your mar- keting plan. Now it's a major part." But the Coldplay manager regards the retail arena as no less vital. "It's just as important to me. People still buy CDs, and Coldplay are one of those artists where a lot of the fans want to own the CD, they want We all had our corner office in a big tower block, but the whole package." there was no vibe. -
