  • July Newsletter
NORTH EAST SUSSEX Sub-Branch NEWSLETTER JULY 2018 It was great that 4 sub-branch members were able to join the ‘regular’ contingent for the June social at the pubs in Mayfield. For mid-week the pubs were generally busy with people out to enjoy the fine weather. Beer choice was limited to Harvey's or Longman in both Mayfield Pubs and once again, by the time we got to the 3rd pub, the Mark Cross Inn, it was shut! News of pub changes within the North East Sussex sub-branch area:- BELL YEWS GREEN (FRANT) Digby and Katie Furneaux took over the Brecknock Arms in April this year. They are intending to focus more on food than before but are mindful that they have a loyal clientele of regulars in this traditional Harvey's village pub. Therefore, although the restaurant area to the right of the front bar has been upgraded with new furniture, and the whole interior has been redecorated so is now much brighter, the bar area and seating remain largely as they were. The opening times have been considerably extended. As would be expected, the beers are from the Harveys’ range, with the regular beers being Sussex Best Bitter and IPA in addition to a changing beer. HARTFIELD The Anchor Inn has a new licensee, Simon Briggs, who took over in April. The most obvious changes are the new wider steps leading up from the car park to a new spacious outside terrace with chairs and tables. The steps also afford an improved access to the main entrance to the pub in Church Street.

  • November '18 Newsletter
NORTH EAST SUSSEX Sub-Branch NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2018 The October Social was to three pubs in the Maynard’s Green area. The Brewers Arms at Vines Cross was extremely busy as it was their quiz night and The Runt in Tun was also busy as there was a Ladies Darts match in progress. Once again it was good that a number of South East Sussex main branch members were able to come along. It is appreciated that the sub-branch covers a very rural area and that public transport is limited especially during the evenings but it would be great to meet a few more members at our socials on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. Please don't feel you have to come to all 3 pubs. Future Sub-Branch Socials and Meetings: Wed 21st Nov - New Inn, Hadlow Down, Blackboys Inn, Blackboys and Hare & Hounds, Framfield. Wed 19th Dec - Pig & Butcher, Five Ash Down, Boars Head Inn, Crowborough, and Cooper Arms, Crowborough 2019 Wed 9th Jan - Sub-Branch Meeting - The Hurstwood, High Hurstwood. 8pm (Sub Branch Area G.B.G. Selection and Survey Allocation) Wed 23rd Jan - Hatch Inn, Coleman’s Hatch, Gallipot Inn, Upper Hartfield and Anchor Inn, Hartfield. (Please note, for this month only, this date is NOT the 3rd Wed) Wed 20th Feb - Abergavenny Arms & George Inn, Frant and Brecknock Arms, Bells Yew Green. We meet at the first pub in the list at 8pm and then move on to visit the others; you are welcome to join us at any time during the evening.
