In the Section, Stoà, as the porch where the philosopher Zeno taught his disciples, are gi- ven the contributions presentated by teachers of Doctoral College: Maria Clara Ruggie- ri, Renzo Lecardane and Cesare Sposito. In the third Section, Gymnasion as a place where young Greeks practiced gymnastics and where educated in arts and philosophy, are the contributions of Angela Katiuscia Sferrazza, Maria Désirée Vacirca, Santina Di Salvo, Alessandro Tricoli and Golnaz Ighani. The fourth Section, Sekós, as a room of Greek house for youn people mentioned by Plato (Rep. 460/c), has two young graduates, Federica Morella and Giorgio Faraci. Accogliendo l’invito dell’amico Presti, con Dorfles e Mimmo Di Cesare, and lucid criticism. scultore prezioso, abbiamo vissuto quei memorabili momenti di visita alla Piramide, sotto il tiepido sole dell’equinozio di primavera, tra la volta celeste, l’azzurro del mare, i colli inverdati che incorni- ciano questa grande Piramide, un tetraedro cavo, alto trenta metri, realizzato con centinaia di lastre in acciaio cor-ten, intensamente brunito di una patina indelebile nel tempo. Mauro Staccioli (Volterra 1937) è certo uno degli scultori italiani più noti all’estero. Si dedica all’insegnamento a Cagliari, dove fonda il Gruppo di Iniziativa, poi a Lodi e infine a Milano, dove insegna al Liceo Artistico di Brera, dive- nendone direttore dalla metà degli anni Settanta. Espone alla IX Quadriennale di Roma nel 1964, è invi- tato alla Biennale di Venezia nel 1976 nella sezione dedicata all’ambiente, vi ritorna due anni dopo, costruendo un muro in cemento di otto metri all’entrata dei Giardini. Dal 1972, dalla mostra personale tenuta alla Galleria Toninelli di Milano sviluppa una concezione dell’opera plastica, interagente con lo spazio e l’ambiente in cui è pensata e collocata, secondo una linea di ricerca che giunge fino ad oggi. Membro associato dell’Académie royale des Sciences, des Lettres et des beaux-arts de belgique e Accademico Nazionale dell’Accademia di San Luca, vive e lavora tra Milano e Volterra. La sua produzione artistica è di grande qualità ed è presente all’estero. Citiamo: le opere per il centro Arte contemporanea Luigi Pecci di Prato e per la piazza principale del Parco olimpico di Seul (Corea del Sud) del 1988, le installazioni nel parco della djerassi foundation di Woodside in California (1987- 1991); l’anello di Ordino d’Arcalis nel Principato di Andorra (1991) e quello di Monaco di Baviera (1996); i tondi del Parco della Fara a Bergamo (1992), del Parco della resistenza a Santa Sofia (1993), di Santo Tirso in Portogallo (1996) e del parco di Villa Glori a Roma (1997); le mezzelune del Parco Su logu di Tortolì e le sfere della piana di Ozieri in Sardegna (1995); un intervento al Parc tournay Solvay di Bruxelles per la Fondazione Europea per la Scultura (1996) e l’ormai celebre equilibrio sospeso al Rond Point de l’Europe a Bruxelles (1998). Tra i lavori più recenti sono la scultura del Lapiz Building di La Jolla-San Diego (2003), dove una trave di acciaio attraversa la facciata dell’edificio, l’arco di Pesaro (2002), le sculture di Taiwan (2003) e di Porto Rico (2004), l’installazione di Brufa (2004) e l’in- tervento presso il bodio center di Milano (2004). Sono stati da poco inaugurati i lavori del 2008: la rota- toria d’ingresso a San Casciano in Val di Pesa, l’Arco di carrazeda de Ansiães in Portogallo, l’opera per il M.A.C.A.M. di Maglione nel torinese e l’installazione di un anello di dodici metri presso il centro Affari val St Quentin a Voisins-le-Bretonneux. Di questo autore, su cui Dorfles si è già soffermato (Staccioli, Maestri contemporanei, Vanessa, Milano 1986), è di seguito tracciato un sintetico, puntua- le e lucido giudizio critico. Although the Agency continued to strive to achieve satisfactory results in the number of visitors and generation of revenue it closed its books with a deficit. Besides organising several popular exhibitions and participated in important exhibitions abroad it continued to invest more in the sites under its management. During the year under review it also increased the number of staff employed not only to improve its operations but also to increase the resources needed for the vast number of cultural activities, projects and work carried out throughout the year. The Agency finances its operations through revenues, mainly from admission fees to museums and sites, and also from a Government subvention. The net revenue generated from admission fees by the Agency in 2019 reached €8,657,464 (2018: €8,957,154).

    Francesco Isidori Academic Curriculum | 2018 Profile Francesco Isidori (1971) graduated from ‘La Sapienza’ University in Rome in 1999. In 2006 he received a PhD for his research into Architectural Composition and Architectural Theory from the same university, with a thesis entitled ‘The Project of the Background’, an investigation on an open, relational and structured architecture. From 2002 to 2010 he has been a visiting professor at ‘La Sapienza’, conducting a studio on architectural design. In 2003, 2008, 2011 and 2014 he served as a visiting critic at Cornell University in Rome and Ithaca, New York. In 2014 he has been invited as a visiting critc at the University of Ferrara and IUAV (University of Venice). Francesco Isidori is regurarly invited to give lectures on Labics’s research and projects and to hold design workshops in a variety of Italian and international universities, including Università La Sapienza, Università Roma Tre, Cornell University, the University of Iowa, Syracuse University, Tulane University, IUAV, University of Ferrara and the University of Hannover. It is the "modern" city built by the Knights of St John; a masterpiece of the baroque; a European Art City; and a World Heritage City. Walking through Valletta one will come across intriguing historical sites around every corner: votive statues, niches, fountains and coats of arms high up on parapets. And when you need to stop and take it all in, the city yields up squares, courtyards, gardens and any number of cafés, right on cue. The Upper Barracca Gardens offer a magnificent view of the Grand Harbour and all surrounding fortifications and towns that were developed during the period of the Order of St. John. We will take a walk through Valletta’s straight streets, each offering a view of the open sea or one of Valletta’s harbours towards St. John’s Co-Cathedral, which is one of the greatest artistic treasures of the Maltese Islands left by the Order of the Knights. Built in 1571, it boasts one of the finest baroque interiors ever, while the façade is in the original renaissance style. On Sundays the Co Cathedral is open for prayer only. We will visit the Grand Master’s Palace and its magnificent State Rooms & Armoury. Grand Master’s Palace was one of the first buildings in Valletta, erected in 1571.

What's does the Cittadella Visitors’ Centre has to offer? The Cittadella Visitors’ Centre is divided into two main areas. The first area offers several interactive touch screens and printed panels which deal with various aspects of the Cittadella including the evolution of the site, nature, military history, ecclesiastical history and civil history. The second area was converted into a surround theatre where visitors can watch a nine-minute video about the salient moments of the millenarian history of Cittadella. All information is available in eight languages. Q. Whereabouts is the Cittadella Visitors’ Centre? The Cittadella Visitors’ Centre is located within two restored 19th Century water reservoirs just at the entrance of the Cittadella. It is recommended that visitors reaching the Cittadella would first visit this centre where one may get a good overview of the various aspects of the fortified city. Q. How do you get to the Cittadella Visitors’ Centre? From Mġarr Harbour follow the signs to Victoria (or take bus route no: 301). At Victoria, also known as Rabat proceed up Republic Street to Pjazza Indipendenza known locally as It-Tokk, and then turn right up It-Telgħa tal-Belt.
