(SHAUKAT ALI) ALIGARH VII PREFACE Air transport is one of the most important infrastructures for the alround development of a nation. Air transport for public use is steadily growing in size and importance. It has already attained a place in the national life that directly influences the innumerable national projects and industrial activities, which themselves are rapidly expanding to the general benefit of the whole population. In so vast a country as India with enormous projects utilising several hundred million rupees each, civil aviation when measured beside these giant national and industrial projects is no doubt a small undertaking. Nevertheless, the Indian Airlines Corporation with a fleet of nearly 59 aircraft is by no means a small domestic airlines when compared with operations in other countries. Perhaps the most vital influence on the future of aviation in India is the little realised fact that the face of India and also the pattern of her industrial life are both changing. Today the nation is racing towards massive industrialisation and economic liberalisation. All this means that the tempo of national life is mounting up. These hives of activity are urgently seeking ways and means to increase VIII their production and to capture the markets for their products. They have to complete with rival interests both foreign and Indian, so there is no time to be slow on the way side when making a sales tour or searching for - raw-materials to keep the factories busy and the workers employed. Aviation in the form of commercial air transport supplies the fast communications essential to the success of our national industries. Civil aviation renders the national industry incalculable service. It speeds up production, trade and traffic in such a way that no other service can offer. Prior to two world wars, the foreign rulers of India did not give desired attention for the development of air transport in India. The history of air transport development during the British rule is the history of suppression and frustration. The government of British India's interest in the development of Internal Commercial air transport was more need based than anything else. But atlast the dark cloud parted, and after the end of World War II there has been considerable expansion of civil air transport services in India. The govt, of India has been making strenous efforts to develop and spread Indian airlines. And with the policies of liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation, there is a very bright future ahead for the corporation. IX A powerful and forceful civil aviation can bring national prosperity, it sets a high leval standard of efficiency in engineering which is an example to other industries. Engineering advances and practices used in aviation today influence all branches of engineering tomorrow - that means national progress. Air transport is the spearhead of national development, a nation with a healthy civil aviation will automatically have a fine Air Force and a prosperous industrial life. It is in the context of this significance of air transport that this dissertation would focus on the working and organisation of the Indian Airlines Corporation with a view to depict the performance of this corporation.

Air transport is the fastest mode of transport which has reduced distances and converted the world into one unit. But it is also the costliest mode of transport beyond the reach of many people. It is essential for a vast country like India where distances are large and the terrain and climatic conditions so diverse. Through it one can easily reach to remote and inaccessible areas like mountains, forests, deserts etc. It is very useful during the times of war and natural calamities like floods, earthquakes, famines, epidemics, hostility and collapse of law and order. The beginning of the air transport was made in 1911 with a 10 km air mail service between Allahabad and Naini. The real progress was achieved in 1920 when some aerodromes were constructed and the Tata Sons Ltd. started operating internal air services (1922). In 1927 Civil Aviation Department was set up on the recommendation of Air Transport Council. Flying clubs were opened in Delhi, Karachi, Calcutta (now Kolkata) and Bombay (now Mumbai) in 1928. In 1932 Tata Airways Limited introduced air services between Karachi and Lahore. In 1932, Air India began its journey under the aegis of Tata Airlines, a division of Tata Sons Ltd.

The Research paper is a work in progress which is focusing on the dynamics of what the TATA Sons are doing to ensure a revert back to the business that they originally founded in 1932.

R. China Abstract The purpose of this paper is to give a summary of aircraft collision/accidents and bird strikes in Nepal. It presents national and international registered aircraft statistics of bird strikes and aircraft collisions between 1946 and 2016 in Nepal. The paper enlightens bird strike probe risk and challenges of aircraft operations in Nepal, details of victim/ collided aircraft with/and aircraft brief specification/models. The data was collected by reviewing different sources from Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), Bureau of Aircraft Accident Achieves (B3A), World Bird-Strike Association (WBA) and qualitative approach articles/newspaper/ interviews. Finally, this paper enhances safety measures to be taken by CAAN, obligation to investigate accidents with professional method of detection with prevention of such accidents in the near and the distance future from hull losses-hull fatalities to be enshrined regulators of ICAO and EASA. The industry has moved towards liberalisation in the ownership of national carriers, capacity sharing, price controls and market access, leading to greater competition among airlines. In the de-regulated environment, the customer has many choices, if the first airline does not measure up-to the desired standards of service. Focus on service quality is the need of the hour if the airlines aspire to improve market share and further enhance financial perforniance in domestic and international markets. The airline industry has been a pioneer in the innovative use of Information Technology (IT) (Ghobrial & Trusilov, 2005). E-commerce and IT are changing the nature of the airline business. The dramatic growth of web and self-service technologies facilitate simplified passenger travel involving e-ticketing, automated check-in, common-user self-service kiosks and other passenger, services (Shon, Chen & Chang, 2003). Growth in the air traffic in recent years is due to the spread of low cost service.

To meet State obligations, DGCA has laid down national regulations to ensure compliance with various Standard & Recommended Practices laid down by ICAO in Annexes to the convention. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is a regulatory body dealing with safety issues. DGCA is also responsible for regulation of air transport services to/from/within India and for enforcement of Civil Air Regulations, Airworthiness, Operations and Air safety. DGCA consists of Technical and Administration Directorates. Technical Directorates are; Airworthiness Directorate, Aerodr- ome Standards Directorate; Air Safety Directorate; Air Transport Directorate; Air Space & Air Navigation Services (AS & ANS) Directorate, Flight Standards Directorate, Regulations & Information Directorate; Aircraft Engineering Directorate, Flying & Training Directorate, Cabin Crew Safety Division & Dangerous Goods Division. Surveillance Enforcement Division (SED) in DGCA Headquarters is the office coordinating and consolidating the activities of ―DGCA Safety Oversight System‖. DGCA Hqrs. is located in New Delhi with Regional offices in the various parts of India. There are 14 (fourteen) Regional and Sub Regional Airworthiness Offices located at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Cochin, Bhopal, Lucknow& Kanpur, Patna, Patiala, Guwahati, and Bhubaneshwar. Apart from the Regional Airworthiness Offices, there are 5 (five) Regional Air Safety offices located at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad.

INTRODUCTION 1.1 To meet the ICAO Annex 6 Long-Term Height Monitoring (LTHM) Requirements, the MAAR undertakes monitoring programs using an in-flight GPS-based monitoring system and an ADS-B height monitoring system (AHMS) with ADS-B data from Bangkok and Taipei FIR. 1.2 To track the monitoring burden according to the Annex 6 LTHM requirements and the global Minimum Monitoring Requirements (MMR), the MAAR maintains a database of approvals and height monitoring history for aircraft registered within States under MAAR’s responsibility. The height monitoring data derives from the MAAR’s applied monitoring systems as well as monitoring data shared by other RMAs. This paper provides an update on the MAAR monitoring burden as of 1 May 2015. 2. DISCUSSION 2.1 The MAAR based the current monitoring burden on the 2014 annual RVSM approvals snapshots provided by State CAAs. MAAR would like to thank the 18 out of 21 States that provided MAAR with the annual snapshot in time for this report. Table 1 contains a summary of RVSM Approval Data submission as an annual update for Period ending 2014.
