Given the diffi- culties faced by women and marginalized groups in Kosovo and in the region on daily basis, rising from these obstacles by confronting and breaking social norms across generations, Art and Community Center – Artpolis for seven years in a row, strating in 2013, has orga- nized a festival aiming to combat these difficulties. This beautiful artistc initiative became a stage so that voices of artists and activists can be heard, and since its first edition it took the form of a prestigious festival. The festival continues to be a platform for initiating and presenting ideas and creations that bring ahead feminist concepts and its development in Kosovo and the region. FemArt brought together local, regional and international women artists of all kinds of ex- pertise, from first-time exhibitors to experienced professionals. There were included women artists and activists, as well as men with feminist attitudes, creators of films, theatre perfor- mances, photographs, music, writings, together with creators and other professionals that contributed with research, discussions and exchange of information. The diverse program of the FemArt festival is not only educational but also entertaining, which has managed to gain a wide diverse audience and leave them with a complete expe- rience. These programs of past editions were selected by a group of artists and civil society activists who have experience in various art forms that have a link between social issues and art creations. 4 The festival’s motto over the years, such as “We are no island”, “Fearless”, “Run the Show”, “Freedom Vs. Shame”, etc. were the inspirational and orienting for artists and activists to showcase their creations and to raise or fight issues that were mainstreaming that specific year of the edition. Inspired by social themes and human rights in the Balkans and beyond, they joined in this dynamic platform of the festival, and artistically informed the public about the social problems that Kosovo’s women and of the region face each day. “Throughout this week Prishtina has gained a more feminine sensation thanks to the performances, music, and panelists that FemArt has gathered from around the world. Using art, writing and theatrical performances they have taken a step in the struggle for rights and gender equality. Leading us on a tour around Pris- tina, at times at the National Gallery, other times at the Oda Theater and Grand Hotel premises, FemArt has tried to turn our attention to topics that tend to be sidelined or discussed only during International Women Day.” - writes KultPlus in one of the many articles on FemArt. “I would like FemArt to last 365 days a year because it is truly a celebration of Art, a wonderful “exhibition” of true value.” - says actress from Albania Egla Ceno. “I am very happy to have participated in an important experience, such as FemArt. In particular, I appreciated the program the festival has developed, which brought together international guests and specific issues related to Koso- vo in the debate. Personally, I am very happy with the organizing part; I was welcomed since my arrival and accompanied in the best way during my stay. So thank you all for the enriching and great experience.”- Silvia Basso, the artist from Italy. 5 FEMART FESTIVAL 1 27th – 30th May 2013 The first Feminist regional Festival in Kosovo was organised for 4 days while started as a small festival but has achieved its mission by providing a welcoming place for women artists to show their art, inspired by social themes and a wish for respect of their rights and to provide an entertaining and dynamic atmosphere for visitors to learn on social issues confronting women of Kosovo, and women artists in particular in the region. The Motto of the 2013 was “We are no island”, thus aiming at enhancing discussions and attracting attention on issues related with Feminism in Kosovo and to serve as a call for more cooperation between Kosovo women and those from the region as important actors in peace building and increased cooperation. Between 1995 and 2010, European countries were involved in international projects to plan pest control strategies. However, since 2011, collaborative efforts have declined and the overview of knowledge on WCR is in great need of updating. Therefore, a review of scientific papers published between 2008 and 2020, in addition to direct interviews with experts responsible for WCR management in several European countries, was conducted to (1) summarize the research conducted over the last 12 years and (2) describe the current WCR distribution and population in the EU, and the management strategies implemented. A considerable amount of new knowledge has been gained over the last 12 years, which has contributed to the development of pest management strategies applicable in EU agricultural systems. There is no EU country reporting economic damage on a large scale. In many countries, solutions based on crop rotation are regularly implemented, avoiding insecticide Citation: Bažok, R.; Lemi´c,D.; use.

European Scientific Journal September 2019 edition Vol.15, No.26 ISSN: 1857 – 7881 (Print) e - ISSN 1857- 7431 Conversion and Memory: A Dialogic Narrative Contextualisation of Liminal Identity Katica Kulavkova, PhD Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (MASA), Republic of Macedonia Jasmina Ilievska-Marjanovic, BA Independent Researcher, Republic of Macedonia Doi:10.19044/esj.2019.v15n26p26 URL:http://dx.doi.org/10.19044/esj.2019.v15n26p26 Abstract Ethnic and religious conversion is deeply engraved in the history and memory of the Macedonian people, yet it remains a painful taboo subject. The paper is interested in the treatment of this topic in the New Macedonian Novel, which brought this problem from the collective unconscious into the public dialogue and shed light on its reoccurrence today. The analysis focuses on the novel The Book of Heavens (2000) by Krste Chachanski since it is equally representative of the topic of conversion to Islam in the Ottoman past, the poetics of the New Macedonian Novel, and the Macedonian dialogic and liminal identity. The Book of Heavens is set at the end of the 18th century in mountainous Macedonia, the forsaken Balkan periphery of the Ottoman Empire. It is centred around Adnan Pasha, the bi-religious and bi-cultural Janissary from Macedonia, his internal turmoil, and his quest for becoming the ethical warrior of his wilful choosing. The novel is a meta-historical and multi-voiced parable of dialogism and liminality in the context of human cognition, identity, and culture. But it is also a mythopoetic and magical realist saga for the ethical warrior, for the Macedonian tragically split and persecuted identity, for the syncretic civilisational borders and peripheries, and for protecting the palimpsest memory of human culture.

  • Decoration from the House Snake Cult Belief System, As Evidenced In
Decoration from the house snake cult belief system, as evidenced in... Decoration from the house snake cult belief system, as evidenced in Kosovan vernacular architecture Flamur Doli* Abstract This study investigates symbolic decoration arising from the house snake cult belief system, as evidenced in Kosovo's vernacular (popular) architecture. This snake cult certainly has its place among the most unusual and important cults within the survival of the belief system surrounding the protecting house gods in Albanian popular belief. Among the issues raised in this study, it is posited from the very beginning that because of their character and their symbolism, the decoration arising from the snake cult has always been applied in the most exposed places or elements of composition since its use had a magic function of protection and bringing good luck. Furthermore, the use of this ornamentation, particularly in the artistic form of bas-relief, is notable for a compositional structure which is in organic harmony with the architectonic and structural aesthetic concept of vernacular building, or its structural elements. To give as full a picture and as much evidence as possible of the use of decoration from the earth cult of the snake either as abstract geometric interpretation of it as a symbol, or as a realistic artistic interpretation, there is analysis of a fair number and range of Albanian ethnographic sites where this decoration is to be found. From the beginning of this study, it is shown that the snake cult is a part of the complex ethno-cultural heritage of our people. Taking a diachronic view, this cult has an uninterrupted history through the arc of time from the Illyrians to the Albanians of our own time.
