Rothwell Schools Year 4 Homework Newsletter [email protected]

Good morning parents/carers and children of Year 4! Hope you are all keeping safe and sound. Here are some activities to help your child learn this week at home. Please choose the ones you would like to complete; you don’t need to do everything on the newsletter.

Challenge from the year four teachers! Kahoot quiz- Well done to those who joined in with the Marine Pollution Kahoot! Well done to Sleepy Dust who managed to knock Mrs Ward off the Gold spot by the end of Wednesday, The game nickname of the top 3 ‘pupil’ players were – Sleepy Dust(1st), Moo Moo(2nd) and Little Toggy(3rd) well done to them and everyone else who also had a go. Remember for next week, teachers only have 1 attempt, you can practise the questions and have as many attempts as you like – increase your chances of getting onto the Gold podium!! This week we have a nice easy quiz all about Fractions. Test your knowledge and try to knock Mrs Ward off the podium! All you need to do is type kahoot.it into the address bar and enter in the game pin: 03255926. You do not need to set up an account as it can be played straight from the webpage but you’ll need to make up a friendly nickname (preferably not your own name) and remember it. Good luck and let’s see who can get on this week’s podium).

Hello/messages from staff Mr Vigor – Hi everyone, I’m back at home this week after being in school and obviously the lovely sunshine changes back to our usual cold, grey and windy British summer! Fortunately, I have lots of ‘end of year’ work to keep me busy! I’m still on home schooling duty and trying to continue with our exercises once a day – a walk or Joe Wicks! I’ve also been using the Duolingo app to refresh my Japanese! I actually remembered more than I thought, although not as much as I should have! Take care as always and still follow social distancing guidelines. Miss Roddy – Hi everyone, it’s been a busy week! I have been cleaning, moving around, sorting things in my home out – I have been having early nights because I’m exhausted! I’ve still been cooking new recipes and they have been sort of successful – one or two may have been put in the bin.....I’m missing you all and hope you’re all staying positive! Mrs Ward – Hi everyone, I’ve been in school again this week in the Thames bubble enjoying completing the newsletter activities with the children. We’ve had a great time learning about how plastic pollution affects the ocean and the animals that live there. I would love to see any of the work you’ve completed at home! When I get home I've been busy working on other projects for school, some of which you will see soon. In the meantime, stay safe! Miss Lewis- Hey everyone! This week has been very different as I have been teaching a new class in Reception at the infant school and they are called the Penguin bubble. I have taught phonics, number time and read lots of stories to the children, which they have enjoyed. It’s very different teaching reception compared to year four but I have enjoyed being back in the infant school. I have showed them pictures of my cats and they also think Lilly is very naughty! I hope you are all safe and well. Please feel free to show me what you’ve been learning at home. Remember you’re fabulous! TOPIC and what we are going to be learning about This term the children will be learning about animal groups, animal babies, animals who have become extinct and animals who are endangered. We will be exploring water pollution and effects on the habitat as well as the animals who are struggling. The children will also have an opportunity to research and learn about land pollution and see the devastating effects on animals and their homes. Finally, we will be learning how to help fix the effect of these problems on the environment and how each person can contribute in some way.

Land Pollution When we first think of pollution, we often think about rubbish by the side of the road. This type of pollution is called land pollution. Land pollution is anything that damages or contaminates the land. There are many causes of land pollution from the rubbish we throw away in our homes to waste produced by giant factories. Sometimes chemicals from the rubbish can contaminate the soil and eventually the groundwater we need for drinking.

Places to start off research

Solid waste pollution Pesticide and fertilizer pollution

Chemical pollution Deforestation
