(Cedar Rapids, IA) - The Burlington Bees (61-65) avoided the series sweep on Sunday, beating the (68-57), 9-0, at Perfect Game Field.

After both starting pitchers traded scoreless innings, the Bees opened the scoring in the fifth inning. With one out, Jordan Zimmerman doubled when the Kernels' left fielder, Christian Caveness, slipped and fell. After a walk and hit batter loaded the bases, Troy Montgomery hit a fly ball to left that was dropped, scoring three runs, giving the Bees a 3-0 lead.

The Bees added to their lead in the sixth inning. Jared Walsh started the inning with a double, his 26th of the year, off the wall in right. After Jordan Serena walked, Brendon Sanger moved the runners over with a ground out. Jordan Zimmerman drove in Walsh with a ground out, upping the Bees' lead to 4-0. Alexi Rivera capped off the inning with a single to left, scoring Serena, extending the lead to 5-0.

Alexi Rivera started the ninth inning by smacking a double to right and then moved over the third on a passed ball. After a Connor Justus walk, Tanner Lubach hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Rivera, upping the lead to 6-0. With two runners on and two outs, Jared Walsh smashed his sixth homer of the season, pushing the Bees' lead to 9-0.

Jesus Castillo tossed five shutout innings for the Bees. Castillo scattered just three hits and struck out three. Castillo has allowed just four runs in his first 20 innings with the Bees.

Ronnie Glenn (2) worked the final four innings, earning the save. Jesus Castillo (3-0) picked up his third win of the season while Sam Gibbons (6-5) was charged with the loss.
