The material collected during OPTIMA’s Iter Mediterraneum VII to the Peloponnese in 1995 has been revised. It comprises 2708 gatherings, each with 0 to 31 duplicates, collected in 53 numbered localities. The number of taxa (species or subspecies) represented is 1078. As many of the areas visited had been poorly explored before, a dozen of the taxa collected turned out to not to have been previously described, of which 9 (7 species, 2 subspecies) are described and named here (three more were published independently in the intervening years). They belong to the genera Allium, Asperula, Ballota, Klasea, Lolium, Minuartia, Nepeta, Oenanthe, and Trifolium. New combinations at the rank of subspecies (3) and variety (2) are also published. One of the species (Euphorbia aulacosperma) is first recorded for Europe, and several are new for the Peloponnese or had their known range of distribution significantly expanded. Critical notes draw attention to these cases and to taxonomic problems yet to be solved. An overview of the 11 Itinera Mediterranea that have taken place so far is presented, summarising their main results. Beckmannia Eruciformis (L.) Host in Slovakia – Distribution, Ecology and Coenotic Affinity Dedicated to the Memory of Ján Bogoly (1951 – 2011)

Host In SlovAKIA – dIstrIbutIon, ecoLogy And coenotIc AffInIty Dedicated to the memory of Ján Bogoly (1951 – 2011) Daniel DÍTĚ1, Pavol ELIÁŠ jun.2, Richard HRIVNÁK1 & Zuzana MELEČKOVÁ1 Abstract The historical and recent distribution, ecology and phytosociology of perennial grass Beckmannia eruciformis was studied in Slovakia between 2002 and 2010. Altogether 22 natural and two secondary sites with presence of the species were found from published sources, herbaria and field research. Localities of its native occur- rence have been concentrated in Eastern Slovakia (Východoslovenská nížina Lowland from the settlement of Streda nad Bodrogom to the villages of Pribeník and Biel). Secondary sites were found in Western Slovakia (Podunajská nížina Lowland; the surroundings of Sládkovičovo town and Jaslovské Bohunice village). The relatively massive reduction of Beckmannia eruciformis localities was recorded in the seventies and eighties of the last century; it was related to massive land reclamation and alterations in the water regime of river alluvia. Recently only seven localities were found. Permanent occurrence was confirmed only in two localities (Malý Horeš, Strážne). In those cases Beckmannia eruciformis has created relatively large populations including some thousands of individuals. All other recent occurrences were temporary (Streda nad Bodrogom, Keresztúr farmstead, Horešské lúky Nature Reserve, Veľký Horeš, Pribeník). Moreover, they were relatively poor in the number in individuals and are acutely threatened by anthropogenic changes of environmental condi- tions. According to our results and by applying the IUCN criteria, we propose to modify the threat category of the species from critically endangered (CR) to endangered (EN) in Slovakia. -

Common names are Bahia grass and bahiagrass. The scientific and common names are correct and current. Varieties are Paspalum notatum var. notatum and Paspalum notatum var. saurae. The Paspalum genus is found in the Poaceae family. Therefore, the aim of our research was to describe elements of seed propagation of some minor grass species. On the basis of field experiments, different spacing and seed quantities were investi- gated for Beckmannia eruciformis, Cynosurus cristatus and Elytrigia elongata aiming at an optimal seed production. Satisfying seed yields were obtained even at a reduced (50% to 75%) amount of seed quantity, as compared to theoretical (or normal) values, calculated on the basis of number of plants per area unit. Key words: Beckmannia, Cynosurus, Elytrigia elongata, seed yields, INTRODUCTION European semi-natural grasslands are a result of long, stable utilization of lowland and mountain areas for hay and as a pasture. Their botanical com- position was extremely rich since the absence of fertilization enabled the presence of many low-growing species (Scotton et.al. 2012). Recent changes in agriculture, with the use of mineral fertilizers, mechanization, drainage and the introduction of highly selected varieties of forage species, led to a significant changes of grassland ecosystems with for example re- duction of species and varieties used. -

Abstract: A long-term floristic study has determined the presence of 410 plant taxa in the flora of saline sites in northern Banat, the Vojvodina Province, Serbia. Of the determined taxa, 363 were included in the ecological analysis of the saline flora, i.e., all 348 determined species, all 14 determined subspecies and, because of its specific importance, only one variety, Aster tripolium var. pannonicus (Jacq.) Beck. Based on the analysis of mean values of ecological indexes (LANDOLT , 1977), we concluded that the saline soil of the studied region is moderately dry (F – 2.65), moderately basic (R – 3.30), moderately abundant with nitrogen (N – 3.08) and humus (H – 2.,95), poorly aerated (D – 3.89), highly saline (S + - 22.31 %), with a favorable thermal regime (T – 4.03), with the dominance of heliophytes (L – 3.85) which are well adapted to the conditions of the moderate continental climate (K – 3.24) that characterizes the studied region. -
