In the Yungas ecoregion of Argentina, previous systematic and ecological research on Ceratopogonidae focused on Culicoides, since they are the main transmitters of mansonelliasis in northwestern Argentina; however, few studies included the genera Forcipomyia, Dasyhelea, Atrichopogon, Alluaudomyia, Echinohelea, and Bezzia. Therefore, the objective of this study was to determine the presence and abundance of Ceratopogonidae in this region, their association with meteorological variables, and their variation in areas disturbed by human activity. Monthly collection of specimens was performed from July 2008 to July 2009 using CDC miniature light traps deployed for two consecutive days. A total of 360 specimens were collected, being the most abundant Dasyhelea genus (48.06%) followed by Forcipomyia (26.94%) and Atrichopogon (13.61%). It does not contain unpublished records or records from papers in press (including on- line proofs) or unsubstantiated on-line records. Often the final versions of papers were published on-line the year before they appeared in print, so the on-line published year is accepted and referred to accordingly. Note, the authorship of species does not necessarily correspond to the full authorship of papers where they were described. The latest high level classification is used where possible though in some cases conflicts were encountered, usually due to cladistic studies, so in these cases an older classification was adopted for convenience. The classification for Hexapoda follows Nicholson et al. (2015), plus subsequent papers. † denotes extinct orders and families. New additions or taxonomic changes to the previous list (v.2017.4) are marked in blue, corrections are marked in red. Palaeoentomology began formally in the late XVIIIth Century with publications on fossil insects in amber. At the start of the XIXth Century, the first studies and descriptions of insects from sedimentary rocks appeared. This discipline then developed during the XIXth and beginning of the XXth centuries, and resulted in major works and reviews. The end of the XXth and the beginning of XXIst centuries (especially after the famous film “Jurassic Park,” produced by Steven Spielberg in 1993 and based on the eponymous novel of Michael Crichton, together with the discovery of new rock and amber outcrops with fossil insects of different geological ages in various parts of the world), witnessed a significant and exponential growth of the science of palaeoentomology resulting in a huge amount of high- quality international scientific work, using the most advanced analytical, phylogenetic and imaging techniques. -
