A few weeks ago we named the two gathering spaces It is not a matter of achieving one of these missions in our main office. That may seem like inside base- over the other. They are intertwined. Her early Mount Rainier photo- graphs, with her husband as foreground subject, are full of whimsy and dreaminess as they capture the grandeur of the landscape. We named the other after Jane Jacobs, who sat through much of the 1950’s at a window above a candy store at 555 Hudson Street in New York City quietly watching the street below. By a sort of alchemy, she turned her astute observations into the acclaimed book The Death and Life of Great American Cities, which changed forever our understanding of what cities are all about; dis- tilling the essence of and threats to great urban neigh- borhoods. Together Imogen Cunningham and Jane Jacobs book- end our Cascade and Olympic Agendas, and inspire us at Forterra to think big and to push boundaries. In the spirit of Imogen, we are dedicated to conserving our working and wild landscapes and to recognizing our place in them. With Jane as our guide, we work to create cities and towns where our families live not by default, but active celebratory choice. 2013 HIGHLIGHTS 03
