XTERRA Discount Code 00224890 In 1996 mountain biking and triathlon met in a duel of the fittest on the island of Maui. The race consisted of an open- ocean swim, a mountain bike race, and a trail run. It represented a bold new racing format that attracted outdoor enthusiasts, adventure seekers, mountain bikers and triathletes. The mountain bikers brought their laid-back style and bold self-assurance. The triathletes brought their hard-core training and avid dedication. They soon discovered a common spirit and attitude that pulled them together. For as different as they are, neither could resist the challenges and thrills this new multisport offered.
Since that day XTERRA has grown into the world’s leading off-road triathlon with more than 100 races in 13 countries this year, including 60 in the XTERRA America Tour alone.
The typical XTERRA is comprised of the following: 1.5 kilometer (0.93-mile) swim in an ocean, lake, or river 30 kilometer (18.6-mile) mountain bike on off-road trails 10 kilometer (6.2-mile) trail run on a variety of surfaces ON THE COVER: 2008 XTERRA U.S. Pro Series Champions Melanie McQuaid and Conrad Stoltz on top, and XTERRA Amateur 2009 marks the 13th consecutive year of expansion for National Champions Joshua Olmstead and Erin Kummer on bottom. The XTERRA Northeast Cup at Sugarbush Resort will dish out $10,000 in prize money, bigger points for amateurs racing in the Series, and most importantly, qualifying slots into the XTERRA World Championship in Maui.
The course itself is epic and plays out on the award-winning terrain of Sugarbush (that’s right – the place was ranked No. 1 in the East for terrain variety in Ski Magazine’s “best resorts on the continent’ survey).
In the summer, that terrain gets vibrant, and athletes can look forward to a nice cool swim in the Resort pond fed by mountain streams, a mountain bike ride that goes straight up the ski hill and into nice rolling forest single track, and the run meanders through the surrounding lush landscape of the Green Mountains.
In addition to the main event there’s also a half-distance race, trail runs, a kids course duathlon, Paul Mitchell hair cut-a-thons to raise money for charity, and unprecedented country charm and beauty all around. Here’s 20 other reasons why this race is sure to be an instant classic:

6 XTERRA NORTHEAST CUP COURSE INFO
Four-time XTERRA amateur National Champion Matt Boobar from Stratton Mountain, Vermont recently pre-rode the Northeast Cup course, and this was his review... I would definitely call the bike course "epic”
Other courses could be considered more difficult because of the heat, altitude, and pure speed – but after all is said and done I bet this course ranks up there with the most challenging and scenic of all-time. The climbs are on the tip of saddle in your granny gear just clawing your way up and then the downhills, single track, and even the flat areas put your bike handling skills to good use. The first 15 minute climb is very steep so your first impression might be "wow this is hard", but then the course gets better and better with a lot of fun single track. Once you get to the top, the course is ridiculously awesome. I mean, true new England style single track, unlike any other XTERRA. Zip under and around actual maple sap lines, around and around rooty switchbacks, through a maze of techy rock and root little drop-ins mixed with short power climbs. After 20 minutes of non-stop (mainly descending) single track you’ll finally get a break on a paved road for a few minutes, then go back in the woods for a very long super fast single track descent and it ends with one final 10 minute grind up to T2. Even the fittest, best skilled humans will be over an hour on this course. See it for yourself: Will Kelsay was wearing a helmet cam during the pre-ride with Matt Boobar in the Green Mountains of Vermont and posted the video on his website at willkelsay.com. Other course notes: The swim is in the Sugarbush snowmaking pond (62 degrees) and will feature two 750 laps with no beach run in between. The run course skirts a bear habitat closed during this time of year to humans, so competitors could see a moose or a bear out there (but not to worry as they are harmless, but really cool to see in the wild). Finish line is at the Mt Ellen base area, and spectators can see a ton of action right there at the lodge. BIKE COURSE MAP

The Caveman is a resilient creature. As proof, Conrad “the The course itself, as previewed by Will Kelsay.com in his Caveman” Stoltz will toe the start line at the XTERRA helmet-cam video last week, is shaping up to be an epic Northeast Cup race at Sugarbush Resort in Vermont on challenge for XTERRA riders. Here’s what Stoltz had to say Sunday, less than a month after slicing open the top of his about it -along with pics- on his website (conradstoltz.com): foot before the Atlantic Cup in Richmond (which he won anyway). “This is by far the hairiest XTERRA course I have ever pre ridden. Sure, it’s almost all uphill, but it is super technical and slippery. It has been raining for the past 3 weeks and everything is slimy.”
The women’s race pits series leader and 3-time XTERRA World Champ Melanie McQuaid from Canada against XTERRA USA national champ Shonny Vanlandingham. In five head-to-head meetings this year McQuaid has won four races and Shonny V won the other (the South Central Cup in Arkansas on June 20). The wildcard is 3-time XTERRA European Tour Champ Renata Bucher from Switzerland, as this grueling climb may suit the uber-lightweight Bucher bet- ter than anyone. A pair of Canadians – Danelle Kabush and Christine Jeffrey – are always in the mix, Nicola Leary (2009 XTERRA New Zealand Champ) will be making her XTERRA debut on American soil at this race, and adventure racing Sari Anderson is throwing her hat into the mix as well. Other American challengers include the young and talented likes of Erin Kummer (No. 6 in Cup Series) and Emma Garrard (No. 7 in Cup Series).
Find results at xterraplanet.com this Sunday, July 12. It’s hard to say how Stoltz, who hasn’t run since Richmond (June 14), will fare in the Green Mountains but his presence alone will certainly change the dynamic of the pro race. Stoltz has won four of the six XTERRA Cup races this year and sits atop the pro series leaderboard - 17 points ahead of Josiah Middaugh (Stoltz’ four firsts and one 5th = 469 / Middaugh has one win, 3-2nd's, 1-3rd = 452 pts).
Middaugh, however, will not be racing in Sugarbush, opting for the extra rest and training prior to the XTERRA Mountain Championship in his backyard at Beaver Creek Resort in Colorado next Saturday, July 18.
There will still be plenty of competition for the tall South African, however, with fellow countryman Dan Hugo, French powerhouse Nico Lebrun, American staples Seth Wealing and Branden Rakita, and Brit mountain bike standout Sam Gardner. The course is also particularly suited to first-year pro Matt Boobar who hails from nearby Stratton Mountain in Vermont. 9 MEET THE PROFESSIONALS
