Tulsa Fsc Honors Margaret Anne Graham Holt TULSA FSC HONORS MARGARET ANNE GRAHAM HOLT Mrs. Holt was born and raised in Tulsa and skated for many years with the Tulsa Figure Skating Club. She had summer training in Lake Placid, NY for nine years. By her senior year in high school, Margaret Anne was the Ladies Senior Champion for the Central Part of the US and went on to be the bronze medalist at Nationals for Senior Ladies as well as a two-time silver medalist in pairs with her brother, Dr. Hugh Graham. The Grahams placed 5th in the Worlds and Margaret Anne placed 7th in Ladies. Margaret Anne’s dedication to the sport of figure skating continued when competitions ended. She was a national and international qualified judge and judged Worlds and two Olympics including Albertville, France in 1992 when Kristi Yamaguchi became an Olympic Champion. Margaret Anne judged the Olympics in Lillihammer, Norway in 1994 during the infamous Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding incident. Margaret Anne was a leader in the United States Figure Skating organization implementing the “Moves in the Field” tests to replace the “figure eight” test. She was the chairman of the Judges Committee for the Board of Directors USFS. She was recently presented with an award by USFS for 50 years of service as a National judge. Throughout the years Margaret Anne has been an avid supporter of Tulsa Figure Skating Club far beyond her exceptional accomplishments as a Tulsa FSC competitor. She judged countless test sessions and competitions including many of the “Skate Tulsa” competitions held annually for 26 years in Tulsa. She served on the Tulsa FSC Board of Governors as a dedicated volunteer. As Tulsa FSC celebrates 75 years, the success of this legacy is the result of the tireless devotion to sport and club by one of our longest serving members- Margaret Anne Graham Holt. .

I'm talking, of course, about the Tonya Harding Story, or is it the Nancy Kerrigan Story, or perhaps the Three Stooges meet Tonya. It has produced some incredible rhetoric, massive amounts of hypocrisy, and no small load of lies. One gets the feeling that if the truth were suddenly to be revealed, no one within the sound of an American television set, would be able to recognize it. Although Nancy Kerrigan was clearly the early star of the show, that role has diminished. The wounded skater appeared on the cover of news and schlock magazines, uttering the now famous words, "Why me?" The answer is obvious.

TITLE: Kristi Yamaguchi LSS 1227 (26:46) FIRST AIR DATE: 9/24/2019 So one thing my parents always told my brother and sister and I...I mean, I just remember this, even when we were little, it was like, you can’t rest on your laurels, you know, you always have to continue to you know, earn your keep in a way, and uh, like even as kids, you know, that was something they instilled in us. So, I think it’s great, you’re pushing yourself, you’re trying to accomplish something, and uh, and then you move on and you continue to grow and evolve and see what’s next. Not resting on her laurels pushed this young athlete to keep entering figure skating contests until she knew she’d become good enough to compete at the Olympic level. Kristi Yamaguchi next on Long Story Short. One on one engaging conversations with some of Hawaiʻi’s most intriguing people, Long Story Short with Leslie Wilcox. Aloha mai kākou, I’m Leslie Wilcox, Kristine Tsuya Yamaguchi, better known as Kristi Yamaguchi, won an Olympic gold medal in figure skating for the United States in 1992. Since then, she’s been a professional ice skater, and author, wife, mother, the 2008 winner of Dancing with the Stars, and a philanthropist. A resident of Alamo, California, she stopped by to talk with us here, on Long Story Short, during one of her frequent trips to Hawaiʻi on behalf of her Always Dream foundation. Kristi Yamaguchi always set goals for herself, something she learned to do at a young age after overcoming a birth defect in her legs.

  • The United States Olympic Committee and the Suspension of Athletes: Reforming Grievance Procedures Under the Amateur Sports Act of 1978
The United States Olympic Committee and the Suspension of Athletes: Reforming Grievance Procedures Under the Amateur Sports Act of 1978 EDWARD E. HOLLIS III* "The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part.... PierreDe Coubertin Founderof the modern Olympics INTRODUCTION Since the inception of the modem Olympic games in 1896, America's Olympic athletes have captured the imagination and attention of our people with their triumphs and defeats on the fields and courts of athletic endeavor. Recently, however, much attention has been focused on their battles in courts of another kind: courts of law. American athletes faced with suspension from Olympic competition are increasingly prone to challenge those decisions, as the recent high-profile cases of Butch Reynolds and Tonya Harding demonstrate. There was a time when such challenges were impossible for an athlete to bring. In 1936, for example, U.S. swimmer Eleanor Holm was suspended from the Berlin Olympics for drinking with sportswriters until 6 a.m. one night while crossing the Atlantic by ship. Her only avenue of appeal was to the U.S. Olympic czar Avery Brundage, and he refused 2 to let her compete. Times have changed, however, and so has the motive for challenging suspension decisions. No longer limited by ironclad rules forbidding monetary compensation of all kinds, Olympic athletes, especially gold medalists, stand to make a fortune on lucrative endorsement contracts. "[A]s sponsors, advertisers and broadcasters assume greater leverage over athletes, the force of eligibility rules in their lives cannot be exaggerated."3 Procedures for challenging suspensions have also become more standardized and unified by the chartering of the United States Olympic Association in 1950,4 and its reorganization with expanded powers as the United States Olympic Committee ("USOC") under the Amateur Sports Act of 1978.' Nevertheless, U.S.
