EVENTS INTO JUNE 2015 ISSUE 15.4 A Section Read us online at www.oldcarandmotorsports.com Old-car hobby officially turns 80 in 2015 By: John Gunnell almost 80 years ago marked America’s first historical automotive society, the Antique Automobile We know that people were collecting old cars by 1925, which was the year that the American Club of America. automobile industry recognized (incorrectly) as its 25th anniversary. Most early car collectors were automobile dealers who took in old cars on trade and realized that they had historical sig- nificance. However, there was no formal “old-car hobby” at that time. The founding of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) is really the event that started the old-car hobby. The AACA was formed by a small group of men who attended the Antique Automobile Derbies held in connection with the Philadelphia Auto Show. They began, SPRING in 1931. After the fourth such Derby, Frank Abramson and Theodore Fiala conceived of the idea of forming an antique automobile club with the previous year’s Derby participants as members. They approached Jack Dlugash, who promoted the Derbies, and got the participants’ names and TURLOCK addresses. In a letter dated Sept. 20, 1935, they got the Derby participants interested in forming a club. That means that 2015 will mark the 60th anniversary of the old-car hobby. A meeting was held on Nov. 4, 1935, in the auditorium of the Automobile Club of Philadel- CLASSIC CAR SWAP MEET SHOW phia. -

Tom Mccahill.Pdf
Personalities at California Auto Museum …Richard Floch, Docent Class of 2007 You could say that this month’s CAMprofiles is a fraud—or maybe we just couldn’t catch up with you for interviews over the Holidays. The individual featured this month isn’t one of us…except in spirit perhaps. He never set foot in CAM although he would have been right at home in a blue vest...if he could find one to fit his portly 6’2” frame that is. But for many car guys from the Baby Boom generation who grew up thumbing through the newest issue of Mechanix Illustrated to find his latest road test, he was for us, our own Uncle Tom, the original chrome-dome. Tom McCahill, Automotive Journalist …before there was such a thing His grasp of automotive engineering was probably not at good as many shade tree mechanics of his day— Tom McCahill’s degree from Yale was in fine arts and he had failed at running Murray’s Garage in NYC during the Depression— but Tom didn’t let that stop him from becoming the most widely read Automotive Journalist for nearly 30 years and perhaps the first to be given that title. Coming out of the war and unable to find a job, McCahill walked into the offices of the small format, 15¢ monthly Mechanix Illustrated and suggested that the country was about to go crazy for new cars and they should hire him to do a regular automotive feature. His first ‘road test’, a term he coined that is now firmly a part of the automotive lexicon, was written using his own 1946 Ford. -

One More Time
One more time After more than 40 years of schlepping their music and their shtick and their cute-lovebird image around the globe, Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme are on their final tour. Published in the Asbury Park Press 7/20/03 By MIKE BARRIS Special to the Press WESTBURY, N.Y. -- They have second homes all over the world: theaters from Milan, Italy, to Mashantucket, Conn., where the adulation of fans turns every concert into a homecoming. But this time, when the grind of airports, hotel rooms and suitcase-style living is over, America's First Couple of Song will just go home. Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme are on their last tour. After more than 40 years of schlepping their music and their shtick and their cute-lovebird image around the globe, the married couple and show- biz institution known simply as "Steve and Eydie" is coming off the road. Late last year, Lawrence, 68, and Gorme, 71, announced they would stop touring after concluding one final, nostalgic swing around the United States. They're ending an era by returning to places where they've attracted thousands in the past, like this suburban Long Island town. Some of the communities on their itinerary haven't heard from them for years. Like the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel. On Thursday, Mr. and Mrs. Music will bring their blend of middle-of-the- road popular songs and bright repartee back to the Garden State venue one last time. They last played the arts center -- a regular New Jersey date for them, for years -- on Sept. -

User's Guide to WDAM Radio's History of Buddy Holly & the Crickets
User's Guide To WDAM Radio's History Of Buddy Holly & The Crickets Preface To The 2020 Edition This across-four-decades-and-two-centuries-long work-in-progress now has been converted to MP3. This new version is expanded from the most recent edition (2009) and contains even more hit and significant non-hit covers of Buddy Holly “solo” and Buddy Holly & The recordings ... as well as newly discovered Buddy Holly "salute" songs, interviews, and recorded historical artifacts that WDAM Radio has identified and acquired. The Collection Congratulations! You now own every hit record ever recorded by Buddy Holly (and/or records on which Buddy appeared as a back-up singer/musician) in both the United States and the United Kingdom. It also includes all charted hits by the Crickets [including all of their many United Kingdom hits, too!] after Buddy's death, as well as their remaining discography. All are in chronological order! .... or at least, sort of. You'll also enjoy original versions of songs that were later re-made into hits by Holly...plus every other artists' hit covers [including those that were only hits in the United Kingdom] of Holly originals ever recorded...plus almost all of those glorious "Buddy Holly death-salute" songs (along with similar tributes to J.P. Richardson and Ritchie Valens). It's the only collection of its kind this side ... or any side of Lubbock, Texas; Clovis, New Mexico; New York City; or Clear Lake, Iowa. (If you know the history of Buddy Holly, you will know why those locations were chosen.) Every release on single 45's (or 78's) is followed by the highest position reached in Billboard magazine and the year. -
Car-Register-2011.Do
Foreword From 2005 to the present, I have been the official Cunningham Motorsport Historian. My hobby website www.briggscunningham.com has been improving and expanding partially in preparation for the first ―Cunningham Gathering‖ of cars which took place on January 23, 2011. Much research and updating of the individual car histories and ownership records was undertaken. All current owners were located and they have assisted in following the trail and verifying as best as possible. To quote my predecessor in this quest for data, B. Bruce Briggs – ―The Register is as accurate as can be…This is a Register; it is not a history of the B.S. Cunningham Company, nor is it a technical treatise on the design of the Cunningham cars…‖. An honest attempt has been made to the best of my ability to update data from his January, 1982 revised edition through the intervening almost thirty years to 2011. Many people and sources have been extremely helpful in this endeavor. They include all current owners of C-1, C2Rs, C-3s (27 cars), C4Rs, C5R, C6R vehicles. Also, the following people have provided much data & info: John C. Fitch, Scott George + Peter Blacksford + Paul Kirstein (all of CH Motorcars/Collier Collection), Dr. Fred Simeone Foundation), Bill Green + Mark Steigerwald (both of Watkins Glen – International Motor Racing Research Center), the following Motorsport Historian writers – Michael Lynch, Carl Goodwin, Janos Wimpffen, Tom Cotter, Michael Argetsinger, Willem Oosthoek, Pete Lyons, Tim Considine, the Cunningham family members – Briggs S. Cunningham III (son), Brian C. Cunningham (a grandson), Lucie Cunningham McKinney (daughter), Stewart B.
