HP VR 1000 - Setting Up the HP Windows Headset ()

This document is for head mounted display (HMD) devices and PCs with Windows 10. With the HP Windows Mixed Reality VR 1000 head mounted display (HMD), you can experience a combination of and . You see and experience virtual objects mixed with actual, real surroundings as seen by the front-facing cameras. Or you see the virtual surroundings mixed with real objects. Use this document to set up and begin using the HMD. To troubleshoot issues with Windows Mixed Reality setup, go to Microsoft webpage Troubleshooting Windows Mixed Reality (in English). Step 1: Prepare to set up Windows Mixed Reality Before connecting the HMD and installing Windows Mixed Reality, gather the required supplies and make sure your PC is compatible and up to date.

1. Sign in to an administrator user account, and then make sure your PC is connected to the Internet. 2. Click Start , click , click System, and then click About to make sure your PC has Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (Windows 10, version 1709) or later for Windows Mixed Reality support. 3. Check and HP Support Assistant and install any available driver updates. 4. Make sure your PC is compatible with Windows Mixed Reality. Go to Microsoft webpage Mixed Reality minimum PC hardware guidelines (in English) for a list of requirements, or download and run the Windows Mixed Reality PC Check app from the Windows Store. 5. Gather the supplies you need. o Adapters: You might need adapters for or USB 3.0 and full-sized HDMI ports. For more information about recommended adapters, go to Microsoft webpage Mixed Reality recommended adapters (in English). o Input devices: You can use Mixed Reality Motion Controllers, an controller, or a mouse and keyboard. o Headphones: If your HMD does not have integrated headphones, you need an audio headset with a mic that can be connected to the HMD audio jack.

Step 2: Connect the HMD to your PC and install Windows Mixed Reality Connect the HMD to the USB and HDMI ports on your PC, connect the headphones to the HMD, and then install Windows Mixed Reality.

1. Connect the HMD USB cable to the HMD USB cable attached to the headset. Make sure the arrows on the connectors are aligned.

2. Connect the HMD USB cable to a USB 3.0 port on your PC.

If you do not have enough open USB ports on your PC, use an AC-powered external USB 3.0 hub. For more information, go to Microsoft webpage Mixed Reality recommended adapters (in English).

note:

If you are using a Bluetooth adapter, do not connect the USB connector next to the Bluetooth adapter, as radio interference might affect Bluetooth performance.

3. Connect the HMD HDMI cable to the HDMI out port on your PC. If your PC has both iGPU and dGPU HDMI ports, connect the HMD to the dGPU port.

The HMD display does not show on the Windows desktop.

note:

If the HP Windows Mixed Reality Headset VR1000 is not recognized or does not function when connected using an adapter, dongle, or hub, connect the headset directly to a USB or HDMI port on the computer, tablet, or other device.

4. If your HMD does not have integrated headphones, connect your headphone audio cable to the HMD audio jack.

The HMD driver installs, and the Mixed Reality Portal (MRP) launches on your PC.

If the MRP does not launch, use to verify that the driver is installed, and then launch the MRP from the . 5. On the Mixed Reality Portal Welcome window, click Get started to download Windows Mixed Reality. 6. When the download completes, click I agree to accept the license terms.

The installer checks the PC to make sure it is compatible with Windows Mixed Reality.

7. When the You're good to go message displays, click Next.

Windows Mixed Reality installs.

If the message does not display, resolve any issues found in the compatibility check.

o Green check: Your PC meets compatibility requirements for that item. o Orange triangle: Your PC has an issue with that item. You might need to troubleshoot or upgrade your PC to resolve the issue. o Red X: Your PC does not meet the requirements for that item. You might need to troubleshoot or upgrade your PC to resolve the issue.

Step 3: Set up your motion controllers Choose an option below to set up your motion controllers.

 If you are using Windows Mixed Reality motion controllers, power them on, pair them with your PC, and then click Next.  If you are using an Xbox controller or a mouse and keyboard, click Use a gamepad or mouse instead, click Next, and then skip to the next step.

Step 4: Set up your room boundary Clear a large, open space, and then set up your room boundary.

note:

If you want to use Windows Mixed Reality seated or standing in front of your PC only, select Set me up for seated and standing, and then skip to the next step. Some apps and games might not work as intended.

1. Clear a large, open space (at least 1.5 m x 2 m or 5 ft. x 7 ft.) of obstacles or hazards. Make sure to clear the space above you, as well. 2. Select Set me up for all experiences (recommended), stand in front of your PC, and then hold the HMD in front of you at waist level. 3. Point the HMD toward your PC, and then select Center.

4. Hold the HMD in front of you at waist level, point the HMD at your PC, and then click Trace. 5. Continue pointing the HMD at your PC while you walk around the perimeter of your cleared space. 6. After tracing your boundary, click Accept.

If your boundary is not acceptable, click Start over to retrace it.

Step 5: Set up Windows Mixed Reality for speech commands (optional) Choose whether you want to use Cortana speech commands while using Windows Mixed Reality.

 If you want to use speech commands with Windows Mixed Reality, click Sure, and then follow the on-screen instructions to set up speech commands.  If you do not want to use speech commands with Windows Mixed Reality, click No, thanks.

Windows Mixed Reality is now set up. To enter mixed reality later, put on the HMD while it is connected to your PC. You can also launch the Mixed Reality Portal app from the Start menu. To manually route input and audio to the HMD, press the Windows + Y keys.
