  • Indian Maiden by Proctor
Spotlight on Indian Maiden by Proctor Date: January 2018 EI Presenter: Tina Heffernan Year/Medium: 1926 Bronze Artist: Alexander Phimister Proctor (1860-1950) Title of Piece: Indian Maiden and Fawn “I am eternally obsessed with two deep desires-one, to spend as much time as possible in the wilderness, and the other, to accomplish something worthwhile in art.” – A. P. Proctor Five points of interest about this artist: 1. Called himself the “Sculptor in Buckskin”. His most famous works include the horse in General Sherman in Central Park, the Pioneer Mother here at the University of Oregon, and the Seven Mustangs at the University of Texas at Austin. Proctor’s tribute to Theodore Roosevelt, The Rough Rider, was the subject of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s first ever educational film on the work of a sculptor. It resides in Portland. 2. He was a contemporary of Frederic Remington and Charles Russell, but chose to work on a more monumental/life size scale and allow his smaller pieces to be more accessible to everyday people. 3. Proctor was born in Canada and grew up in Colorado where he developed a love for hunting and sketching wild animals. In 1885, he sold a gold claim and with the proceeds went first to New York to attend the National Academy of Design and then on to Paris to continue his studies. His academic training made him as comfortable in international artistic circles as he was hunting grizzlies in the Rocky Mountains. 4. As a hunter he always was careful to measure, draw, and sometimes dissect the animals that he killed.

  • “All Chalked Up” Chalked “All View from the ROCK
Slippery University Rock Magazine Fall 2016 “All chalked up” View from the ROCK Dear Friends, I love this time of year when warm evenings melt into cool nights, and the aroma of autumn is in the air; but it’s also hard to say goodbye to summer. The summer of 2016 will be remembered as one of the busiest construction seasons on record at Slippery Rock University. Jackhammers, excavators and demolition crews were a common sight as crews worked diligently to renovate academic buildings, athletic fields and residence halls prior to the start of the fall semester. All of the work was scheduled with an eye toward modernizing academic learning environments and improving the appearance and function of buildings and campus. By the time classes resumed Aug. 29, $6.5 million in improvements had been completed. Major projects included a new entryway for Rhoads Hall; the demolition and reconstruction of the south wall at Spotts World Culture Building; the removal and resurfacing of the outdoor track at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium; and a pair of projects at Morrow Field House that included refinishing the basketball/ volleyball court and a roof replacement. In a continuing effort to extend our commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion, we converted more than 70 single- occupancy restrooms to all-gender restrooms. We also FALL 2016 Volume 18, Number 3 launched the Physician Assistant Program; opened the renovated Harrisville building and welcomed the Pokémon craze to campus. We were honored this summer to receive a number of In this issue national, regional and state awards for academic quality, value and sustainability among others.

Adam Matthew Publications is an imprint of Adam Matthew Digital Ltd, Pelham House, London Road, Marlborough, Wiltshire, SN8 2AG, ENGLAND Telephone: +44 (1672) 511921 Fax: +44 (1672) 511663 Email: [email protected] POPULAR NEWSPAPERS DURING WORLD WAR II Parts 1 to 5: 1939-1945 (The Daily Express, The Mirror, The News of The World, The People and The Sunday Express) Publisher's Note This microfilm publication makes available complete runs the Daily Express, The Daily Mirror, the News of the World, The People, and the Sunday Express for the years 1939 through to 1945. The project is organised in five parts and covers the newspapers in chronological sequence. Part 1 provides full coverage for 1939; Part 2: 1940; Part 3: 1941; Part 4: 1942-1943; and finally, Part 5 covers 1944-1945. At last social historians and students of journalism can consult complete war-time runs of Britain’s popular newspapers in their libraries. Less august than the papers of record, it is these papers which reveal most about the impact of the war on the home front, the way in which people amused themselves in the face of adversity, and the way in which public morale was kept high through a mixture of propaganda and judicious reporting. Most importantly, it is through these papers that we can see how most ordinary people received news of the war. For, with a combined circulation of over 23 million by 1948, and a secondary readership far in excess of these figures, the News of the World, The People, the Daily Express, The Daily Mirror, and the Sunday Express reached into the homes of the majority of the British public and played a critical role in shaping public perceptions of the war.

  • ÖBKT Deell .RAAD VAN BEHEER .RADIO .TELEVISE
ÖBKT JAAROVERZICHT 1987 DEELl .RAAD VAN BEHEER .RADIO .TELEVISE Jaaroverzicht 1987.
