GOVERNMENT OF HIMACHAL PRADESH TATISTICAL ABSTRACT A H i v i , / Issued by: Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Himachal Pradesh, Simla-1 PREFA C E .With the advent of planning, the demand for ad^uate dnd reliable statistics has been ever—growing. The directorate of Economics and Statistics has been publishing the Statistical Outline of Himachal Pradesh since 1956. However, there has been a general demand for more detailed data on various socio-economic aspects of the State, In order to meet this demand, the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Himachal Pradesh has been bringing out the Statistical Abstract of Himachal Pradesh. It highlights the achievements made in various focio-economic fields by presenting comparable series of statistical data at one place. The current issue of the Statistical Abstract which is the 4th in the series relates to the year, 1981 and if thcoi^orates the available data under important heads of economic and social development. It gives 3tate aggregates as well as district-wise information for the latest available year. The publication is meant to serve as a comprehensive reference book for the Government departments, ^ucational institutions, planners, research scholars, etc. I hope the publication would be found useful by all |iose interested in the socio-economic problems of Himachal Pradesh. I am thankful to all the heads of departments in Himachal Pradesh for extending whole-hearted co operation for timely supply of data incorporated in this publication.
