The construction manager for the Briarwood Elementary replacement school (17) project worked diligently over the last month to enclose the building. The exterior metal studs and sheathing were installed on the two-story classroom wing. The metal decking was installed with only a couple areas to complete. The roofing contractor mobilized to begin installation of roofing materials on the classroom building. Interior metal studs and CMU continued throughout the building. The media center slab was completed allowing the remaining structural steel to begin. Overhead and in-wall mechanical, electrical and plumbing activities continued. The 45-classroom replacement school is scheduled to be occupied in August 2021. Upon completion, demolition and remaining site work will commence and be completed in 2022 The construction manager for the Montclaire Elementary School (17) continued with the final closeout activities of the new building.

The daughter of Tom and Tracy Barnett has found great success as a cheerleader after transitioning two years ago from her lifetime sport of gymnastics. In addition to being a top level cheer athlete, Kinsey carries a 4.0 unweighted grade point average in the demanding IB Program at Myers Park. After much thought, Kinsey decided to retire from training at Perfect Balance Training Center Gymnastics in 2017. With an older sister that had found great success as cheerleader on the Mustangs sideline, Kinsey decided cheerleading would become her sport of choice. “As a competitive gymnast for most of my life up until the end of sophomore year, I had never had the opportunity to participate in school activities or sports so having the ability to be on the sidelines cheering on our team is super exciting for me.” With her vast experience in gymnastics, Kinsey was a natural for a flyer position on her team. Kinsey also tries to provide leadership examples to the younger team members. “I am one of many people on the team that enjoy leading our team in any way that we can. I simply want to fulfill whatever position my coach needs me to and be an example to younger girls on the team.” Kinsey has always has a strong desire to succeed in every thing she chooses to participate in.

The construction manager for the Briarwood Elementary Replacement School continued installation of the storefront and window systems which enclosed the building in areas needed to allow other activities to continue. Utilizing temporary air, the finishing of drywall, painting and ceiling grid continued in the second floor classroom wing and administration wing. The build out of the main mechanical and electrical rooms progressed in preparation to bring the mechanical systems online in April. The mason is wrapping the building with brick veneer in multiple areas. Asphalt paving was installed at the temporary bus lot and kitchen dock. The 45-classroom replacement school is scheduled to be occupied in August 2021. Upon completion, demolition and remaining site work will commence and be completed in 2022.

As he grew taller, his interest became more centered on basketball. After one year of football at Catholic, Mark realized that Head Coach Jim Oddo wasn’t looking for a 6’7” quarterback to run his offense, so he dedicated himself to basketball. The year round training has certainly paid off as Mark has been a force for the Cougars early this season. His large frame combined with a deadly outside shot allows Mark the opportunity to score 20 points on any given night and also pick up 8-10 rebounds with a couple of assists and blocked shots. His numbers and achieve- ments come without the extra flare or unsportsmanlike gestures. Mark does his job and maintains a high level of professionalism on the court. His game is straight- laced with no room for showboating on the court. That workmanlike attitude will prove very attractive to col- BASKETBALL lege coaches over the next year.
