SUMMARY Dr. Maghsood Abbaszadeh is a professional with over thirty years of variety research, technology development, industry teaching and advanced consulting. He has solid expertise in both fundamental research and practical applications of technology for solving complex reservoir problems to meet the challenging needs. Abbaszadeh has extensive publications of high quality articles in refereed journals, mainly SPE, several of which are outstanding classical work and have been widely cited. He is experienced in collaborating with universities and centers of technical excellence, interacting with multiple oil company clients, establishing technical programs for corporations, and advancing reservoir technologies.

Abbaszadeh is currently the CEO and the director of technology for Innovative Petrotech Solutions, Inc. (IPS), a research-oriented consulting company that he founded in late 90’s. He is also a senior research fellow at the Department of Engineering at University of Texas at Austin, prior to which he was an adjunct professor there teaching graduate level courses on advanced reservoir engineering. At IPS, he provides leading edge consulting and professional training to the in the areas of integrated reservoir characterization, fractured reservoir characterization and modeling, geostatistics and uncertainty analysis, classical and appliedreservoir engineering, and modeling, IOR/EOR applications with emphasis on CO2 and chemical EOR injections, pressure transient testing technology and tracer flow studies.

Prior to IPS, he was an invited research advisor in the technology research center of Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) in Japan, where he organized a multidisciplinary geostatistical reservoir characterization team for R&D and worldwide field applications of technologies to address the needs of different geological settings and oil recovery mechanisms. He also worked at the research center of Arco Oil and Gas Company in Plano, Texas, mainly in the development and applications of advanced reservoir characterization and pilot injection studies of Alaskan fields. Before joining Arco, he was a well testing section manager with well services in Houston, Texas.

Abbaszadeh has made several major contributions to the petroleum literature and advancement of petroleum technology in the areas of interwell tracer flow for reservoir description, variety of pressure transient analysis solutions and interpretation models, upscaling technology of heterogeneity for reservoir simulations, permeability prediction method by hydraulic flow unit classification, development of methodologies for integrated geostatistical reservoir characterization, naturally fractured reservoirs, CO2-EOR injection studies, Novel Chemical EOR techniques and applications in naturally fractured reservoirs, and a variety of integrated multidisciplinary field development applications. He received SPE 2007 distinguished member award.

Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation - 5/1992 to 12/1997 Invited Research Advisor - Developed a multidisciplinary reservoir characterization program for JOGMEC (formerly JNOC) and conducted R&D on geostatistical reservoir description techniques, integration of sources of data, and scaleup of heterogeneity for reservoir performance modeling. Was recruited from Arco Oil & Gas Co. specifically to setup this cutting edge technology expertise in JOGMEC. - Performed and/or led several field projects with company affiliates on integrated reservoir characterization and flow simulation studies; including primary, waterflood, gas and CO2 injection. - Investigated methane recovery from stratified water-dissolved and mud-adsorbed unconventional gas formations. - Developed and published a specialized well testing interpretation methodology to characterize flow from adsorbed gas on tight mudstone micro-pores to thinly laminated brine-saturated high permeability sand layers. - Developed advanced well test interpretation models for heterogeneous reservoirs and complex multilateral well geometries, which were used by company affiliates worldwide. - Represented JOGMEC regularly in international research consortia and industry-affiliated programs in various academia or research centers worldwide for technology sharing and transfer. - Established technical excellency, advised corporate management on all reservoir engineering matters with business implications, and mentored reservoir engineers in the corporation worldwide on technology applications and problem solving. - Taught company courses on geostatistical reservoir technologies, data integration from seismic to production, and pressure transient testing.

Union Pacific Resources Company – 1/92 to 5/1992 Reservoir Engineering Consultant - Evaluated recovery performance and production potential of the naturally fractured Austin Chalk formations. - Performed integrated decline curve analysis and reservoir flow simulations to determine the main oil drainage mechanism and process parameters for identification of bypassed oil in reservoir. - Prepared a sound engineering proposal for corporate management for effective exploitation of naturally fractured Austin Chalk, Buda and Georgetown formations through selective horizontal well drilling program that targeted untapped oils and benefited from efficient recovery mechanisms.

Arco Oil and Gas Company – 11/88 to 12/1991 Senior Principal Research Engineer - Utilized methods of deterministic, fractal and geostatistics to characterize and flow simulate an EOR pilot performance in North Slope Alaska, West Sak Field (moderately heavy oil with oil viscosity of 50-100 cp). - Integrated geology, seismic, well log, core, pressure transient, and production data into alternate reservoir simulation models after heterogeneity scaleup for simulation-scale definition. History matched field performance as a base to evaluate waterflood field-wide and assess gas injection feasibility. - Studied petrophysical characteristics and special core analysis SCAL data of Kuparuk, Prodhoe Bay and naturally fractured Lisbon reservoirs in Alaska. Devised reservoir engineering-based schemes for implementation of SCAL data models in Arco’s black oil reservoir simulator. - Developed an analytical solution for falloff tests in multilayer reservoirs with fluid banks, and applied it to water and gas injection wells in West Sak and Prudhoe Bay fields.

- Worked on coal-bed methane pressure transient and single well performance modeling for the Fruitland Field in San Juan basin. Concentrated on fundamental technology development and reservoir engineering applications.

Schlumberger Well Services – 8/1982 to 11/1988 Well Testing and New Products Section Head - Managed a group to develop new interpretation product services for reservoir management by integrating well testing, and coring. - Interacted with field technical staff and managers, and prepared technical R&D proposals for persuasive management presentation and budget allocation. - Managed projects and developed solutions for pressure transient testing of multiphase injection wells, pumping wells, horizontal/slanted wells, gas condensate reservoirs, and testing while perforating. - Developed a unified pressure transient interpretation software system, which was adopted company-wide.

Development Engineer - Responsible for developing analytical and numerical models for various pressure transient problems and implementing them in field interpretation software package. - Developed a computer package for automatic well test interpretation. - Analyzed pressure transient tests from different reservoirs throughout the world and recommended workover, completion and stimulation plans. - Worked on NODAL production analysis and design.
