In January, Charles Koch’s 2007 book, “The Science of Success,” was published in Arabic by the London- based Hindawi Foundation for Education and Culture (a nonprofit organization that promotes education, culture and love of reading in Arabic-speaking communities). A Japanese version of Koch’s latest book, “Good Profit,” was published in January, followed by Korean and Chinese translations in March. A contract for a Romanian version has been signed and efforts are underway to secure a Spanish translation. For those who prefer their MBM® with a British accent, a slightly modified version of “Good Profit” was published in Great Britain in 2015. (A blurb on the back cover, for example, says “nappies” instead of “diapers.”) Piatkus Press, Koch’s U.K. publisher, has distribution rights in 52 Commonwealth of Nations territories. In February, Koch received a request to publish “The Science of Success” in Vietnamese. Ironically, the original version is now out of print in the U.S. Translations of Koch’s first book already include Korean, German, Portuguese and two forms of Chinese. For Phillips-Medisize (see page 7), one of the newest Koch companies and a Molex subsidiary, many design and development breakthroughs occur close to the Arctic Circle, at a specialized site in southeastern Finland. In 2013, the company completed a 60,000-square-foot expansion of its facility in Kontiolahti. That plant specializes in the production of complex drug delivery devices, such as insulin injector pumps. COMPLETES PURCHASE OF MOLEX INCORPORATED WICHITA, KANSAS/LISLE, ILLINOIS – Koch Industries, Inc. has completed its $7.2 billion acquisition of Molex Incorporated (NASDAQ: MOLX, MOLXA), a global electronic components company. The acquisition was finalized through the merger of Koch Industries’ wholly owned subsidiary, Koch Connectors, Inc., with and into Molex. As a result of the merger, Molex is now an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Koch Industries, Inc., retaining its name and headquarters in Lisle, Illinois. The company will continue to be operated by its current management team. Under the merger agreement, all of the outstanding shares of Molex, including the Common Stock, the Class A Common Stock and the Class B Common Stock were converted into a right to receive $38.50 per share in cash, plus an adjustment of $0.18 per share representing a pro rata portion of the regular quarterly cash dividend. “We’re pleased to welcome Molex’s 36,000 talented leaders and employees to Koch,” said Charles Koch, chairman and chief executive officer of Koch Industries. “Molex is a great company that creates real value for its customers and society and matches up well with our culture and core capabilities.” Dave Robertson, president and COO of Koch Industries said, “This acquisition represents a new platform for growth and innovation for us. Earthquakes and erosions have remade the U.S. political terrain, reconfiguring the ground on which politicians and social groups must maneuver, and it is important to make sure that narrow and short-term analyses do not blind us to this shifting terrain. We draw from research on changes since 2000 in the organizational universes surrounding the Republican and Democratic parties to highlight a major emergent force in U.S. politics: the recently expanded “Koch network” that coordinates big money funders, idea producers, issue advocates, and innovative constituency-building efforts in an ongoing effort to pull the Republican Party and agendas of U.S. politics sharply to the right.
