The park’s saproxylic beetle fauna, associated with dead wood and veteran trees, can be considered as nationally important. An annotated host catalogue is given for the Tachinidae ofthe Czech Republic. It comprises 149 of476 tachinid species which are currently known from this coun- try (included the two new records cited below). 195 hosts are listed. The first host records ofTachinidae date back to the second halfofthe 19th century. The bibli- ography for the host records consists of 1 16 papers of 55 researchers. Several re- cords of hitherto unpublished material are included. Phryxe setifacies and Anthomyiopsis plagioderae are first records for the Czech Republic. J. Cheshire Wildlife Trust Heteroptera and Diptera surveys on the Manchester Mosses with PANTHEON analysis by Phil Brighton 32, Wadeson Way, Croft, Warrington WA3 7JS [email protected] on behalf of Lancashire and Cheshire Wildlife Trusts Version 1.0 September 2018 Lancashire Wildlife Trust Page 1 of 35 Abstract This report describes the results of a series of surveys on the Manchester mosslands covering heteroptera (shield bugs, plant bugs and allies), craneflies, hoverflies, and a number of other fly families. Sites covered are the Holcroft Moss reserve of Cheshire Wildlife Trust and the Astley, Cadishead and Little Woolden Moss reserves of Lancashire Wildlife Trust. A full list is given of the 615 species recorded and their distribution across the four sites. This species list is interpreted in terms of feeding guilds and habitat assemblages using the PANTHEON software developed by Natural England. This shows a strong representation in the sample of species associated with shaded woodland floor and tall sward and scrub. The national assemblage of peatland species is somewhat less well represented, but includes a higher proportion of rare or scarce species. A comparison is also made with PANTHEON results for similar surveys across a similar range of habitats in the Delamere Forest. This suggests that the invertebrate diversity value of the Manchester Mosses is rather less, perhaps as a result of their fragmented geography and proximity to past and present sources of transport and industrial pollution. Introduction The Manchester Mosses comprise several areas of lowland bog or mire embedded in the flat countryside between Warrington and Manchester. They include several areas designated as SSSIs in view of the highly distinctive and nationally important habitat, such as Risley Moss, Holcroft Moss, Bedford Moss, and Astley Moss. -

Veronice Michalkové a Petru Bejdákovi. 3 Abstrakt Byla provedena rešerše tachinologické literatury týkající se druh ů rodu Tachina , přehled pojetí zástupc ů tohoto rodu podle jednotlivých autor ů, p řehled vývoje využitých morfologických znak ů pro rozlišení zástupc ů podrodu Eudoromyia s výskytem v ČR, stru čná rešerše molekulárních a nástin statistických p řístup ů k determinaci dvouk řídlých s důrazem na čele ď Tachinidae. Byla provedena molekulárn ě-genetická analýza vybraných podrod ů rodu Tachina s použitím 16S rDNA molekulárního markeru. Výsledky potvrzují rozd ělení rodu Tachina v podrody ( Servillia , Tachina , Eudoromyia ), avšak za použití daného markeru nelze vy řešit validitu druhu Tachina nupta . Abstract The available works concerning taxonomy of species of the genus Tachina was reviewed. Special attention was made to the comparison of various conceptions of the genus according to particular authors and critical analysis of morphological characters used for species identification of the subgenus Eudoromyia from the Czech Republic. -

Shannon-Wiener’s diversity indexes, Pielou’s Evenness Index (Equitability) and relative abundance in Khin Nyein Chan Biotechnology Research Department, arthropods were analyzed. IN A CLASSROOM FIREFLY (COLEOPTERA: LAMPYRIDAE; PHOTINUS) JAMES E. LLOYD Department of Entomology and Nematology, University of Florida, Gainesville 32611 ABSTRACT The Jamaican firefly Photinus pallens (Fabricius) offers many opportunities and advantages for students to study insect biology in the field, and do research in taxon- omy and behavioral ecology; it is one of my four top choices for teaching. The binomen may hide a complex of closely related species and an interesting taxonomic problem. The P. pallens population I observed gathers in sedentary, flower-associated swarms which apparently are sustained by the flowers. Males and females remained together on the flowers for several hours before overt sexual activity began, and then pairs cou- pled quickly and without combat or display. Males occasionally joined and left the swarm, some flying and flashing over an adjacent field in a manner typical of North American Photinus species. Key Words: Lampyridae, Photinus, mating behavior, ecology RESUMEN La luciérnaga jamaiquina Photinus pallens (Fabricius) brinda muchas oportunida- des y ventajas a estudiantes para el estudio de la biología de los insectos en el campo y para la investigación sobre taxonomía y también sobre ecología del comportamiento; es una de las cuatro opciones principales elegidas para mi enseñanza. Este nombre bi- nomial puede que incluya un complejo de especies cercanamente relacionadas, que es un problema taxonómico interesante. La población de P. pallens que observé se reune en grupos sedentarios asociados con flores los cuales son aparentemente mantenidos por dichas flores. -
