2019 Small Plant Sale Variety Information

Blueberries: Need at least 2 varieties for cross-. Plant in full sun with good drainage. Plant 6 - 8 feet apart in a row. Plants are potted in 1-gallon containers.

Titan • Rabbiteye type blueberry • Ripens June - July • Very large berries

Premier • Rabbiteye type blueberry • Ripens in June. • Large berries • Upright growth and highly productive

Climax • Rabbiteye type blueberry • Ripens early to mid-June • Medium size with sweet • Upright growth habit with intense green foliage

Blackberries: Thornless upright (do not require trellising) plants can bear up to 7 weeks. Plants are self- fruitful and do not require cross-pollinating. Recommended plant spacing is 3-5 feet apart. Excellent cold hardiness. Mature plant size is 4-5 ft high and 3-4 ft wide. 2-year old potted plants are 12-24 inches upon arrival.

Ouachita • Thornless blackberry begins bearing fruit in 2 years. • Ripens in June. • Large, sweet berry. • Hardy, high yielding producer. • Very upright canes.

Von • New thornless blackberry just released from NC State University. • Ripens mid to late season. • High yielding for a duration of 6 weeks. • Large berry with sweet flavor and very small .

Nantahala • New release from North Carolina State University. • Upright thorny variety that produces dark red berries. • Large berries with small seeds • Good late season variety, reduces sunscald and heat damage

Muscadines: 2-year old plants sold in 1-gallon containers. Plants are approximately 2-5 feet in length upon arrival.

Tara • Disease resistant (bronze) • 17% • Excellent pollinator • Ripens mid-season • Excellent for all uses

Lane • Newly released from the University of Georgia (Black) • Black, self-fertile muscadine ripens early season • Medium to large fruit • Very sweet. Contains 19% sugar

Grapes:

Concord Concord Seedless grapevine is very similar to Concord Seeded except it is seedless and has a sweeter flavor. This grapevine variety is excellent for pies, jellies, jams, juice and fresh eating. Fruit ripens 7 days earlier than Concord. Zones 5-8. Ripens in September. Self-pollinating.

Thompson This well known green seedless grape is one of the most popular table grapes. It is also the grape most used for raisins. The fruit is most delicious when allowed to fully ripen and turn more golden than green. Thompson produces large and well-filled clusters. Grows well in hot climates. Good for all uses. Ripens one week before Concord.

Strawberries: Bundle of 25 bare- plants. June-bearing.

Jewel • Midseason variety. • Large berries with superb quality and flavor. • Performs well over a wide range of growing conditions. • Plants have moderate winter hardiness.

Earliglow • Medium size. • Sweet flavor. • Fruit size tends to decrease as the season progresses. • Plants are very vigorous and runner well. • Good disease resistance. • America’s favorite strawberry.

Asparagus: Easy to grow. Comes in bundles of 10.

Jersey Giant • Known for heavy yields and thick spears • Large dark green spears with purple bracts • One of the most frost hardy varieties

Fruit Trees All fruit trees are shipped bare-root individually wrapped in water retaining gel to keep moist

Apples: Two-year old, bare-root trees. Need two varieties for pollination. Plant 12-16 feet apart. Trees are 4-5 ft upon arrival.

Honeycrisp • Beautiful red skin over a yellow background. (patented) • Sweet and mildly tart flavor • Ripens late September.

Gala • The Gala apple tree is a pollinator. • Medium sized fruit with golden-yellow skin and a red-orange blush. • Flesh is firm, sweet, crisp and juicy. • Apples store very well. • Ripens late August through early September.

Arkansas Black • The Arkansas Black apple tree is an excellent pollinator. • Medium size fruit with dark red skin almost black in color. • Flesh is firm, white, juicy and crisp. • This apple is excellent for juice. • Resistant to cedar apple rust. • The apple tree is very hardy and vigorous. • Heavy bearer and ripens October to November.

Fuji • Medium to large fruit • Popular fresh eating apple • Firm, crunchy, juicy white flesh with excellent flavor. • Ripens early to mid-September • Good storage quality and Good Pollinator

Horse • Excellent pollinator. • Medium sized fruit • Original old-timey apple that everyone still loves. • Great for cooking and baking. • Ripens late July and excellent winter keeper

Fig: Plant 15 - 20 feet apart. Grows best in well-drained soil. Plant in full sun. Bears fruit in 3 years. Self-Fertile. Ripens late summer (July-August) Mature trees can be 15 feet high and 10 feet wide. Yield is 1-2 bushels per tree.

Brown • Large purplish-brown fruit with amber colored flesh • Very sweet and tender bell shaped figs. • Very heavy producer

Celeste • The Celeste fig has a very sweet flesh with a rich, flavor. • This fig tree produces a medium size fig that bears even in unfavorable weather climates. • Cold hardy and a very heavy producer.

Cherries: 2-year old, bare root trees. NOTE: If a cherry tree is self-fertile they will produce on their own however, we still recommend planting another cherry with it for maximum fruit production.

Montmorency is standard for delicious pies. It is one of the most popular dessert cherries in . The fruit is very large and has a bright red color skin. The flesh is very firm and yellow with clear juice. The flavor is tart and tangy. Montmorency is very cold hardy and disease resistant. Tart cherries can pollinate a sweet cherry as long as they bloom at the same time. Grows up to 15′ and ripens late June. Self-Fertile. Grows in zones: 4 – 8. Chill hours: 600-700. Cherry Package Bada is an improved Bing cherry with with dark red skin and purplish red 2 Trees flesh. The fruit is very firm and sweet. This self-fertile variety is resistant to cracking ( & Bada Bing) and serves as a good pollinator for other sweet cherries. Bada Bing ripens in late June – 1-2 week after the Bing cherry. Black Tartarian Cherry is an excellent and very popular cherry for your home . The flavor is very rich, robust and sweet and a favorite for many. It is juicy and has a blackish red colored skin. Elberta Firm, yellow-fleshed freestone is ideal for canning and is equally tasty fresh. Plump rose- blushed have fabulous aroma and honey-sweet taste. Ripens mid to late Sept. Self- pollinating.

Flowering Dogwood Trees (Cornus Florida)
