Lord Shiva has the gift and power to unite us to his spiritual strength, cleanse our past, to teach us and guide us in our evolu - tion and personal development. His creative and destructive energy of the ego leads us into the light. As the alchemist according to our progress, He heals our wounds, removes our worries and sows in us the joy and happiness of being, while leading us in our inner quest for the divine in us. He offers us the chance to find out. In this book, I would also like to introduce you to two great personalities of ancient India. Firstly, it is Muthuswamy Dikshitar, blessed by Lord Muruga, he was an ocean of music – a rare musician. He was the - 7- Natha Jyothi who got grace of Goddess Shakti and gave birth to innumerable godly songs. It is 178 years since Dikshitar breathed his last on a Diwali Day and mingled in Natha Jyothi. All Sangeetha Vidvans (musicians) must celebrate the Diwali fes - tival, especially Dikshitar Day; his keerthanas must be sung in every house - hold. I express our thanks to Yogi Shud - dhananda Bharati who wrote this small work on the history of Dikshitar. Secondly, it is Dayananda. In his small work titled Rishi Dayananda, the author speaks about the history of the Father of Navbarath Dayananda and the principles of Arya Samaj in brief.

1 The Alphabet Board A Collection of Sayings of AVATAR MEHER BABA Compiled by Chris Maier This collection © 2014 by Chris Maier. See pp. 2-4 for further copyright information. 2 Preface Words can clarify or confuse; they’ve always had this dual identity, but in this “Information Age” words have proliferated to such an extent that mankind seems in danger of drowning in a sea of verbiage. Inasmuch as we depend on words, we need those which give meaning to our lives; we need, ideally, words defined by God! And—thank God!—we have them. For although He kept silent for forty-four years, Avatar Meher Baba spoke to us through His alphabet Board, His flying fingers giving the true meaning of everything from Art to Zero—all the while pointing us away from words, towards His silence and the unnamable mystery of His Love. Note: When “you” is referred to in a quote from Meher Baba, it is sometimes a general and at other times a specific “you,” but if the gist of the message seemed generally applicable, it is quoted without indicating who was being addressed. Omissions are noted by ellipsis points (…), paragraph breaks are omitted, editor’s interpolations are enclosed in brackets, and spellings and capitalization are rendered as in the source text: thus, for instance, Baba is sometimes “me” and sometimes “Me,” God is “he” or “He,” and so on. SOURCES The words of Meher Baba are copyright by the Avatar Meher Baba Perpetual Public Charitable Trust (AMBPPCT), Kings Road, Ahmednagar, M.S. 414001, India.

Dr. Shuddhananda Bharati Saint Thyagaraja The divine singer Maharshi Thayumanar His life and teachings ASSA Editions Editor’s Notes Saint Thyagaraja is the triumph of Indian art and music. India is celebrating the bicentenary of the seer-poet. This book commemorates his bicentinary. We have delight in publishing this book by a modern seer-poet to honour the occasion. Seer-poets live in tune with the Divine and their art is an efflorescence of the inner beauty. Thyagaraja is the eternal voice of India’s soul. His songs are our spiritual heritage. Their influence on the hearts and minds of the people at large is widening. He is a reincarnation of Valmiki and an apostle of Bhakti Yoga. Kavi Yogi Maharishi Shuddhananda Bharati is a votary of Thyagaraja since his boyhood and imbibed his spirit. His songs, which are popular in the land, draw their inspiration from Thyagaraja. One of his ancestors was very close to the saint and could sing many kirtans of Thyagaraja. On hear - ing them daily our Kavi Yogi too was fired with psychic devotion for song-offering. Kavi Yogi has sung more than 5000 kirtans. His outstanding genius as a modern poet and composer has been acknowl - edged by the Madras State Sangita Nataka Sangham which granted him Rs. 1000 to publish his Kirtananjali and awarded him the title of Sahitya Karta (Sahitya Akademi awards). Dr. Shuddhananda Bharati God, Soul and the Universe The Revelations of Saint Meikandar ASSA Editions Editor’s Notes The Revelations of Saint Meikandar Here is an original synthetic treatise upon the Twelve Aphorisms revealed to a perfect Saint Meikandar . The Tamil word ‘Meikandar’ means ‘Sathya Dharshi’ or the ‘Truth Seer’ who, being a perfect Yogi and a divine Jnani, speaks from within the highest and the purest truth about the three eternal entities - God, Soul and the Universe. This book guides the seekers and thinkers of the Eternal Truth, who strive to master the quintessence of the Agama Siddhanta and Tantra works of our ancient sages. TO FELLOW PILGRIMS We are all Pilgrims of Eternity coming from an unknown past, living in a multicol- oured universe and passing into a mystic future. Whence we come and where we go, we know not: but we come and go playing our role in this evolutionary drama of Existence! Who exists, why, how and who started this cosmic play and what is its goal? – every intelligent man and woman must find out an answer to these age–long inquiries. Through the dark inferno, burning purgatory and pleasing paradise of this mounting Divina Commedia, a rhythmic heartbeat keeps time to a mystic song whose refrain is, “I am Aum”. Who is this ‘I’—that is the first person in us, and the baffling personality in the second and the third persons? That universal ‘I’ in the individual, is the Pilgrim Soul here. Fellow Pilgrims, pray walk with him as he talks with you. These are random footprints left on the sands of Time by the patient Pilgrim whose plodding steps met with grim trials in the ups and downs of human destiny. Hard was his lonely journey, long his search in the tangled woodlands of cosmic life and high was the aim of his inner aspiration guided and fulfilled by a Pure Almighty Grace–Light.

FROM DEUS IN ADIUTORIUM TO MARANATHA: COLONIALISM AND REFORM IN JOHN MAIN’S HINDU ENCOUNTER By Nicholas J. Scrimenti Advisors: Prof. Francis X. Clooney & Naohito Miura A Senior Paper Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Divinity Harvard Divinity School, Cambridge, Massachusetts May 2021 “By making his body the under-wood, and the syllable Om the upper-wood, man, after repeating the drill of meditation, will perceive the bright god, like the spark hidden in the wood.”1 - Śvetāśvatara Upaniṣad “This prayer centers on no contemplation of some image or other…It is a fiery outbreak, an indescribable exaltation, an insatiable thrust of the soul. Free of what is sensed and seen, ineffable in its groans and sighs, the soul pours itself out to God.”2 - John Cassian, Conferences 1 F. Max Müller, ed., The Upanishads, vol. 1, Sacred Books of the East 15 (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1879), 237. 2 John Cassian, Conferences, trans. Colm Luibhéid, The Classics of Western Spirituality (New York: Paulist Press, 1985), 138. Scrimenti 1 John Douglas Main, OSB (1926-1982) holds a unique place within the modern Christian contemplative tradition. He developed, independent of his contemporaries in the Centering Prayer movement, a method of Christian meditation centered on the silent recitation of a mantra. Main’s teaching was notably developed from the synthesis of two major sources: his encounter with Swami Satyananda (1909-1961) in British Malaya in 1955, who first taught him how to meditate, and his subsequent personal discovery of the tradition of the “prayer formula” of John Cassian (circa 360-435 CE) in the Conferences.
