    Road Charge comes into force RM20 FEE: RTD says no drop in number of cars coming in from Singapore IMPLEMENTATION of the Road Charge (RC) at two land checkpoints in Johor yesterday for all private foreign-registered vehicles entering Malaysia caught motorists off guard. As they fumbled with their Touch 'n Go cards at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) at the Causeway and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex at the Second Link, questions were raised about the payment process as soon as the new levy was implemented at midnight yesterday. To help motorists, signboards were erected at the car lanes to explain how they could use their prepaid cards for the RC. The new fee system requires drivers of private foreign-registered vehicles entering Malaysia through the Causeway and Second Link to pay RM20, which will be deducted from their Touch 'n Go card. Road Transport Department (RTD) deputy director-general Datuk Yusoff Ayob, who was at the BSI yesterday, said despite the initial confusion, the new payment system went on smoothly. "Motorists need some time to get used to it. We had some difficulty at first, but we ironed it out and there should not be any problems after this," he said, adding that 38 booths were opened for the RC at the Causeway. Yusoff said the number of staff manning the counters was sufficient to cater to 20,000 foreign motorists who entered both checkpoints daily. Singapore had labelled the new fee as "discriminatory" against drivers from the republic, but it had little bearing on the motorists as the number of foreign vehicles entering the two checkpoints was the same as any other weekday.

    LABU AIRPORT Chedet.co.cc January 17, 2009 By Dr. Mahathir Mohamad 1. Air Asia has done well to explain the justification for the so-called KLIA-East in Labu. 2. Not having the facilities and personnel I can only give my very unprofessional view on the justification: a) Passenger Capacity I must congratulate Air Asia on its very remarkable success. By 2014 it will handle 26 million passengers. Present terminal at KLIA is handling about 25 million passengers. KLIA is planned to handle 125 million passengers. It has 25,000 acres of land to build another terminal and four satellites. It can even duplicate these terminals and satellites. But Air Asia wants low-cost terminals with no aero-bridge, no luxury interiors. This is not a problem for KLIA. There is enough space in the 25,000 acres of reserved land to build the low-cost terminal to accommodate the 60 million Air Asia passengers in the distant future. MAHB (Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad) can do this. (Incidentally Putrajaya has only 10,000 acres of land). However, by 2014 the total number of Air Asia passengers would only be 27 million. Accommodating this number should be no big deal for MAHB. b) Runway capacity By 2014 Air Asia will have 77 aircrafts. LCCT capacity will still be for 33 aircrafts. Does Air Asia expect all its aircrafts to be on the ground in LCCT all the time? Usually some would be in the air and many would be at other airports. Expanding the parking area would not be too difficult.

    Malaysia | Tax | 6 August 2020 Malaysia Immigration Update Malaysia – Singapore Border Crossing Arrangement starting 17 August 2020 According to the latest announcement released by Malaysia Immigration Department (MID) dated 1 August 2020 via their website, the governments of Malaysia and Singapore have agreed to allow work and business-related travel between the two countries effective 17 August 2020. This is only applicable for Singapore nationals and all expatriates that are legally resident in Singapore wishing to enter Malaysia for work or business purpose via Causeway, Second Link, KLIA, KLIA 2, Penang International Airport. For Malaysians and expatriates currently residing in Malaysia who wish to enter Singapore, please refer to our additional notes below. Under this agreement, there are two schemes introduced for cross border movement between Malaysia and Singapore, i.e. Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL) and Periodical Commuting Arrangement (PCA). Summarised are the below two tables. Newly released data allows us to better estimate Johor-Singapore cross border flows; and we think that there could be a quarter million Singaporeans visiting Johore each week [1, 2]. There is no doubt that Singapore cash is sought by restaurants, retailers, and property developers. Johor households are impacted by rising prices; with urban and rural folk also pinched by household debt. Recent surveys point to pro-development views among Johoreans (especially rural), along with a dip anti-Singaporean feelings [3]. Do they recognise homegrown issues contributing to Johor’s price inflation; and do they balance this against income opportunities from Singapore FDI and its open job market? In Part 1, we reviewed the indicators for the property sector and found it hard to lay the blame fully on just one sector of buyers - Singaporeans. Johor prices are the highest in Malaysia Rising household incomes have helped Johoreans to weather the fastest consumer price increases of any Malaysian state; headlining at about 2.7% per year since 2010 or 0.3%-age points faster than the Peninsular Malaysia average. The compounding effect on prices and the state-by-state differences are notable, even for what is often considered a tame measure of the cost of living: Johor’s regular goods and services are priced about 2.5% higher than those in Selangor-Putrajaya and 15% higher than Sabah, on the official count.
