TEAM NOTES:

INJURY UPDATES The Penguins got some good news in practice this week, as Zach Aston-Reese, Kris Letang and Mike Matheson all practiced with the team on Thursday and Friday. Matheson was injured in the second game of the season, and has missed Pittsburgh’s last eight games, while Letang was injured in the Penguins contest versus the Rangers on Jan. 30 and missed the last game.

Aston-Reese has yet to play this season due to offseason shoulder surgery. The 26-year old finished the 2019-20 campaign with 13 points (6G-7A) and was tied for second on the team with one shorthanded goal in 57 games.

Through 10 games, Pittsburgh has 58 man-games lost due to injury. Last season at the 10-game mark, the Penguins had 47 man-games lost.

KING OF THE COLISEUM Throughout his career, Sidney Crosby has played dominant hockey against the New York Islanders. In 67 career games, Crosby has recorded 113 points (36G-67A) against the Islanders, helping Pittsburgh to a 41-17-9 record in those games. He has more than double the amount of multi-point games against them (33) as opposed to games with no points (16), while his 113 total points ranks fourth in NHL history behind Jaromir Jagr (155), (131) and Mark Recchi (120).

Crosby’s 113 points versus the Islanders are also the most that any active player has against one single team:

Player PTS Opponent Sidney Crosby 113 New York Islanders Sidney Crosby 107 Philadelphia Flyers Alex Ovechkin 95 Patrick Marleau 95 Sidney Crosby 92 New York Rangers

MALKIN VERSUS NYI Evgeni Malkin has 78 points (30G-48A) in 64 career games against the Islanders. His 78 points are five more than his next highest point total against any one team (Philadelphia, 73). Malkin has points in 76.6% of his games against the Islanders in his career (49/64). Only teammate Sidney Crosby has more points versus New York in his career than Malkin among active players:

MARINO LOGGING BIG MINUTES John Marino was solid on Monday night against the Rangers, recording a career-high 30:30 minutes of time on ice, the most by a Pittsburgh skater since Jack Johnson (31:08) on Feb. 23, 2019. Marino is just one of just seven players to skate 30-plus minutes in a game this season, and it marks just the third instance where a player did so in regulation only:

500 GAMES FOR WEBER Recently acquired defenseman Yannick Weber's next game will be the 500th in his career.

Weber, a third-round pick (73rd overall) by Montreal in the 2007 NHL Draft, has split his 13-year career between the Canadiens, Vancouver, Nashville and now Pittsburgh:
