In this paper we revisit the ranking of outstanding sports records and build on past work, focusing on a comprehensive set of records from the four major American professional sports. We interviewed and corresponded with two sports experts and applied an AHP-based approach that features both the traditional pairwise comparison and the AHP rating method to elicit the necessary judgments from these experts. Here’s what we know about all of them, with further updates expected today as the Jets return to action with a morning skate and then their game in Washington against the Capitals. Mark Scheifele has missed two games with a suspected shoulder injury, and there will be no rushing him back into action. He’s considered day-to-day at this point, and coach Paul Maurice had said last week he was a possibility to play either tonight, or tomorrow in Nashville. But don’t bet on it. Defenceman Toby Enstrom is battling a lower-body issue which kept him out for four games, saw him return in New Jersey last Thursday and then be back out on Saturday. Maurice said it’s a nagging thing that can change day-to-day, so his status is very much a question mark. Defenceman Dmitry Kulikov missed Saturday’s game after getting hurt Thursday in New Jersey. Maurice hasn’t said how long he could be out, only that it’s upper-body. Goalie Steve Mason has been sent back to Winnipeg for further testing on a lower-body injury he suffered late in the game against the New York Rangers last Tuesday, which was his first game back from his second concussion of the season.

    [Type text] Forward Starting Hockey is a very fast game with many changes of directions. A game can be won or lost in fractions of a second. Players must master the ability to stop and start in order to adjust to the flow of the game. If a player cannot start out quickly, he /she will be behind the play and will not have success racing to loose pucks. During a game, a player will be confronted with the situation of having to start from a stationary position. This situation may happen during a face off alignment, confrontation in front of the net or getting up off the ice after receiving a good body check etc. To be effective a player does not require great speed but instead great quickness. This skating ability requires a player to reach top speed in only three or four strides. Players such as Paul Kariya, Joe Sakic and Pavel Bure have a great gift of being able to perform lighting quick starts. They are in full speed within two or three strides. By developing great quickness through proper starting techniques a player can lower the amount of time needed to reach his / her top speed. Explosive starts require quick choppy type strides which are followed by powerful, rapid and long leg drives. The ability to start effectively requires three skating components: Quickness – often we hear the term “quick feet”… to rapidly turn the legs over. Power – when skating the majority of a player’s power comes from his /her thighs i.e quads . It is a force exerted by the legs and body weight against the inside edges of the skates.
