------TONIGHT'S GAME NOTES------

- The New York Islanders are 27-14-6 all-time in home openers, including 25-13-5 at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

- This is the first game the Islanders will play at the Coliseum since March 7, 2020.

- This is the fourth time in Islanders history that they will face the Boston Bruins in the home opener. The Islanders won the first three meetings (1977, 1980 and 2006)

- For the 15th time in franchise history, the Islanders will host a game on Martin Luther King Day. They have hosted a game every year on this holiday from 2007-2015.

- The Islanders look to improve to 60-87-21-5 all-time against the Bruins, and 33-44-10-1 all-time at home.

------THIS SEASON------

- Anders Lee, Brock Nelson and Mathew Barzal are three Islanders who have active consecutive game streaks of at least 200 games (Lee 270, Nelson 247, Barzal 243). They are three of just 25 players in the NHL who have played every game since the start of the 2017-18 season. It is the first time since November 25, 1978 that the Islanders have had three players with streaks of at least 200 games.

- Semyon Varlamov started on Opening Night for the 10th consecutive season. Only Jonathan Quick (12 seasons) has a longer active streak than Varlamov. Varlamov made 23 saves for the 28th career shutout, and third with the Islanders. This was only the second time the Islanders have recorded an Opening Night shutout.

- Brock Nelson scored his fifth career Opening Night goal and fourth-fastest (02:33) in a season opener in team history. His first period goal was the earliest to start a season since 1006 (Miro Satan).

- Anders Lee recorded two goals and eight shots on Opening Night, something no Islander has done since at least the 1970s. has 25 two-goal games, the most of any active player without a hat trick.

- Nick Leddy became the first Islanders defenseman since Johnny Boychuk in 2015 with multiple points (2 assists) in an opener.

- Josh Bailey is six games shy (867) of passing Clark Gillies (872) for 4th place on the franchise's all-time games played list and he can move into third place on the list by the end of this season.

- Islanders 2014 Third Round (78th overall) draft pick Ilya Sorokin made his NHL debut on January 16 at the , becoming the first goaltender in Islander history to make his NHL debut against the Rangers. He is also the first goalie to make his NHL debut as an Islander since Christopher Gibson (January 2, 2016), and the first Islander to start in his NHL debut since Jean-Francois Berube on October 10, 2015.

------CAREER NOTES------

- Anders Lee has the fourth-longest consecutive game streak (270) among all-time Islanders. Brock Nelson (6th) and Mathew Barzal (9th) have both moved into the top-10.

- Captain Anders Lee is in his third season as Islanders captain. He is five games shy of reaching the 500-game milestone. Since his first full NHL season in 2013-14, Lee is tied for seventh among American-born plays in career goals (174). Additionally, Lee ranks second among active players in career goals by players drafted in the 6th round.

- Josh Bailey is in his 13th season in the NHL, making him the longest tenured Islander on the roster. Bailey, 31, has played in 867 NHL games, all with NYI.

- Brock Nelson is in his eighth season in the NHL. Brock Nelson led the Islanders in goals in both the 2019-20 regular season (26) and post-season (9, tied). Nelson, 29, took (1,188) and won (615) more faceoffs than anyone on the Islanders last season and finished above 50% (51.77%) in the face-off dot for the first time in his career.

- Cal Clutterbuck is the NHL’s active leader in career hits (3,149). Clutterbuck, 33, skated in his 800th NHL game on Nov. 2, 2019 becoming the 11th player from his draft class to reach that milestone and just the second player drafted outside the first round.

- For the third straight season, Mathew Barzal led the Islanders in points (60) and assists (41) last year. Barzal, 23, was the Islanders representative at each of the last two All-Star games and has appeared in every Islanders game (regular and post season) since his rookie year in 2017.

- Ryan Pulock was the Islanders blueline leader in goals (10), assists (25), points (35), GWG (3) and TOI/G (21:24) last season. Pulock, 26, has appeared in 197 consecutive regular season games, good for the fourth longest streak by any defenseman in franchise history. He needs one game to tie Gerry Hart third all-time (198).

- Defenseman Andy Greene is 65 games shy of reaching the 1,000 game milestone. He currently leads all active NHL undrafted players with 935 games played.

- Defenseman Noah Dobson is the youngest player on the Islanders 23-man roster for the second straight season. He is one of just eight defensemen from the 2018 Draft class to have already made his NHL debut. He made his NHL debut and recorded his first point/assist on Oct. 8 vs. EDM. Dobson became the first NYI defenseman to record a point in his NHL debut since 2011 (M. Katic) and the first teenage defenseman to play for the Islanders since 1999 (M. Biron).

- In the 2019-20 postseason, Anthony Beauvillier became the sixth player in franchise history to open a post-season with a 6+ game point-streak. He recorded two of the Islanders three post-season series-clinching goals, becoming the second player in Islanders history to score multiple series-clinching goals in a single post-season.

- Since making his NHL debut in the 2009-10 season, Matt Martin leads the NHL in hits (2,997) and is just three hits shy of becoming the fifth active player to reach 3,000 career hits (one of whom is Cal Clutterbuck). Martin, 31, is the only Islander to appear in every Islanders playoff game since 2013.

- Barry Trotz is second among active coaches, trailing only Joel Quenneville, in both wins and games. Trotz's NHL record is 846-618-60-151 in 1,675 games, and he is now four wins shy of supplanting Ken Hitchcock as the 3rd-winningest coach in NHL history.

- In 2019-20, Casey Cizikas set a career-high and tied for 5th in the NHL with three short-handed goals last season despite having played fewer games than anyone tied or above him.

- Since making his debut in 2016-17, Adam Pelech leads all Islanders defensemen in plus/minus with a plus-28 rating. The Islanders were 25-10-3 with Pelech in the lineup last season before he went down with a regular-season ending lower body injury.
