After checking in at the hotel, your tour leader will meet you with all tips and recommendations to make the most of your time in Guatemala and answer any questions you may have. Followed by an orientation walk around Antigua and a free evening to relax after your flight and explore the town before heading out to your first dinner together as a group. You will enjoy a guided walk in the colorful cobblestone streets of while learning the history of this UNESCO World Heritage site, you will also visit markets, the ruins of San Jose Catedral, La Merced and major highlights of the city. You will enjoy lunch at “El Rincon Tipico”, a well-known local establishment where you will be able to try the most significant traditional dishes of Guatemala. After lunch, you will walk to Antigua’s most recognized lookout point known as “El Cerro de la Cruz” to enjoy the view from the top of Antigua and surrounding volcanoes. After our first class, you will take a short transfer (aprox. 15 mins) to the town of San Miguel Escobar in the outskirts of Antigua, you will go to work with coffee farmers, where you will learn all about the coffee production from bean to cup and will enjoy lunch with a local family. After enjoying lunch in town we will prepare for our first afternoon at Sueños, a non-profit organization focused on improving the lives of marginalized children and providing a safe space of empowerment, learning and coexistence out of the streets of Antigua. The group will divide in half and will have 2 work schedules at the organization. When your group isn’t at work you will have time off to practice your Spanish. You will take the bus to these colorful village, famous for the intricately complex textiles and handcrafts. You will visit the local market with a Women’s Artisan Association and they will teach to fabricate your own "Worry Dolls" for you to take back home. You will enjoy a short textile demonstration with the women and a rustic Guatemalan lunch together before heading back to Antigua for your afternoon at Sueños. You will be taking the bus (aprox. 20 mins) before going on a guided eco-cultural trek that will allow you to explore off the beaten path trails until you reach a natural water spring in the middle of the forest, you will also enjoy lunch in the village before heading back to Antigua for an afternoon of work at Sueños. La parroquia de San Miguel Dueñas, Sacatepéquez (Guatemala) Johann Melchor Toledo Universidad del Istmo, Guatemala [email protected] Resumen En las faldas del volcán de Fuego y muy cerca de La Antigua Gua- temala está el pueblo de San Miguel Dueñas. Desde 1768 fue ca- becera de una gran parroquia que abarcaba varios pueblos cercanos. La población era de algunos ladinos y la mayoría indígenas. Tanto en el pueblo de cabecera como en los anexos han existido templos llenos de imágenes de culto, cada una con sus cofradías. Algunas de ellas han sobrevivido a los sucesivos terremotos que ha tenido la región. Este artículo trata de escribir una historia parroquial y un inventario de los bienes que se conservan. Se menciona a las personas que lucharon por recuperar, reconstruir e incrementar el patrimonio cultural.     Revista Ciencias Técnicas Agropecuarias, Vol. 20, No. 2, 2011 PUNTOS DE VISTA Modelo matemático de flujo del sistema acuífero del valle aluvial de antigua Guatemala, Sacatepéquez, Guatemala Flow mathematical model of the alluvial valley aquifer system of ancient Guatemala, Sacatepéquez, Guatemala Eugenio Orozco & Orozco1, Isaac Herrera1 y Albi Mujica Cervantes2 RESUMEN. El presente estudio es un modelo matemático de flujo de aguas subterráneas para el sistema acuífero presente en el valle aluvial de la Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepéquez, Guatemala. En el valle destacan unidades de rocas andesíticas y depósitos de lapilli, sobreyacidos por aluviones mezclados con sedimentos de piroclastos. Se estima una recarga potencial por precipitación de 50 millones m3/año, representando un 24% de la precipitación en la zona. Las tansmisividades del sistema acuífero van de 50 a 300 m2/día para los sedimentos superiores y de 600 a más de 5 000 m2/día para las rocas fracturadas. Coeficiente de almacenamiento de 0,1 desde Antigua Guatemala hasta Ciudad vieja constituyendo un acuífero libre y desde aquí hasta Alotenango, es semiconfinado con un coeficiente de almacenamiento de 0,01. El modelo matemático generado, se considera de aplicabilidad únicamente en el valle aluvial. En la calibración del modelo en estado transitorio, se tiene un error medio de 0,266 m. y un error de 2,36%: Por lo tanto, el modelo puede ser útil para hacer proyecciones de manejo y explotación futura de los recursos hídricos subterráneos de la zona.
