Stronachlachar, Gaelic for “the nose or point of the stonemason” is a pretty hamlet and is located on the south western side of the serene and legendary Loch Katrine. The area is spectacularly beautiful with The Trossachs on your doorstep. Loch Katrine is Glasgow’s fresh water loch and is home to the famous Sir steamship, named after the poet who sought inspiration from the area for many of his works. The Pier Café, only a short walk away on the banks of the loch provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere where a selection of refreshments are available. The area offers complete escapism and a variety of outdoor pursuits such as walking, cycling, hiking, bird and wildlife watching, canoeing and kayaking. DIRECTIONS From Stirling, take the A84 heading west. Once past the M9 flyover after about 4 miles, turn left onto the A873 signposted for Thornhill and Aberfoyle. Continue on this road, which will then merge into the A81 and follow the signs for Aberfoyle. On entering Aberfoyle, carry on through the village and continue straight ahead onto the B829 (Lochard Road). On leaving the village the primary school will be on the right hand side. From the school, continue on the B829 for about 10 miles, passing Loch Ard and then Loch Chon on the left hand side. You will approach a T junction. Turn right signposted for Stronachlachar and continue on the single track road until just before you approach The Pier Café and the banks of Loch Katrine. Turn left (where you see the sign 20’s Plenty and signs for holiday cottages) and straight ahead there is an electronic barrier. Beyond this, follow the road around to the right of large warehouse buildings and take the first turning right past the small Scottish Water office to enter the driveway to Willow Cottage.
