  • Dobber's 2010-11 Fantasy Guide
DOBBER’S 2010-11 FANTASY GUIDE DOBBERHOCKEY.COM – HOME OF THE TOP 300 FANTASY PLAYERS I think we’re at the point in the fantasy hockey universe where DobberHockey.com is either known in a fantasy league, or the GM’s are sleeping. Besides my column in The Hockey News’ Ultimate Pool Guide, and my contributions to this year’s Score Forecaster (fifth year doing each), I put an ad in McKeen’s. That covers the big three hockey pool magazines and you should have at least one of them as part of your draft prep. The other thing you need, of course, is this Guide right here. It is not only updated throughout the summer, but I also make sure that the features/tidbits found in here are unique. I know what’s in the print mags and I have always tried to set this Guide apart from them. Once again, this is an automatic download – just pick it up in your downloads section. Look for one or two updates in August, then one or two updates between September 1st and 14th. After that, when training camp is in full swing, I will be updating every two or three days right into October. Make sure you download the latest prior to heading into your draft (and don’t ask me on one day if I’ll be updating the next day – I get so many of those that I am unable to answer them all, just download as late as you can). Any updates beyond this original release will be in bold blue.

  • A Fleet Transformed Just Five Members of the Relocated Atlanta Thrashers
Winnipeg Free Press https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/hockey/jets/a-fleet-transformed-449138983.html A fleet transformed Just five members of the relocated Atlanta Thrashers are still flying Jets colours seven years later as the rebuilt youthful, speedy squadron prepares for takeoff with soaring expectations By: Jason Bell Let’s hop in the time machine and program the date to Oct. 9, 2011. Winnipeg is buzzing over the return of the NHL, and the puck is about to drop on the inaugural season of the Jets 2.0 at the barn on Portage Avenue. The Montreal Canadiens are the visitors as Bryan Little, Blake Wheeler, Andrew Ladd, Dustin Byfuglien and Toby Enstrom line up for the opening faceoff. A tall, slender teen named Mark Scheifele is on the bench during the national anthem and will make his NHL debut just 3:05 into the first period. Ondrej Pavelec guards the net, offering the last line of protection against the Habs. There’s great hope surrounding the former Atlanta Thrashers — an eclectic mix of veterans, including two with Stanley Cup rings, and a reasonable crop of talented youngsters. Much of that initial excitement is little more than misguided, blind faith in a team that possesses a few key pieces, but is severely short on roster depth and the prospects cupboard is nearly bare. The Montreal Canadiens bring a shot of reality to the thunderous, electrified celebration at the MTS Centre that historic Sunday afternoon, beating the Jets 5-1. Credit the transplanted group for finishing the season with a respectable 37-35-10 record in the Southeast Division, rocking it at home at 23-13-5.

Jamie Langenbrunner says the Flyers have NHL changed the landscape in the Atlantic Division by adding future Hall of Fame defenseman Chris Pronger. This year, The Star-Ledger asked Devils players how they see the Eastern PREVIEW Conference picture unfolding this season, and this is what they had to say. • NHL: Three Teams Who Are Worse Than Their Records Indicate
NHL: Three Teams Who Are Worse Than Their Records Indicate Author : matthewzaffina Hockey is a stressful game. Each game can change in a heartbeat, as can each team’s season. So when your favorite team strings together a few wins to start the year, you may catch yourself breathing a sigh of relief: there’s a little cushion, a little breathing room. Maybe this team can stay one step ahead and make this season a little easier on all of our hearts. We’re here to make sure that you start panicking again. If you’re a fan of one of the teams on this list, we have bad news: your team isn’t nearly as good as it looks. And when reality sets in, your team could go on a slide while the bad guys catch up. Sorry, but it’s true. Dallas Stars 4-1-0 Ah, the Stars! In the brutal Central Division of the Western Conference, a lot of us weren’t expecting that much from them. And here they are with four wins. They sure showed us. But how long can this team hold on? The Stars profited from the Chicago Blackhawks’ salary cap woes, adding good players like LW Patrick Sharp and D Johnny Oduya. The Stars will keep up their scoring this year, but will Oduya be enough to stabilize their defense? The Stars still have questions about their goaltending future, and despite one shutout (against the disappointing Pittsburgh Penguins in the opening game of their season), the Stars are allowing an average of 3.2 goals a game.

  • Previewing the NHL's Tough Central Division
Previewing the NHL’s Tough Central Division Author : matthewzaffina Last year’s Stanley Cup champions, the Chicago Blackhawks, came out of the Western Conference’s Central Division. Will the same division produce the 2015-16 season champions? We wouldn’t bet against it. This is our 2015-16 Central Division preview. 7. Colorado Avalanche Defense was the weakest point for a weak team in Colorado last year. The offseason addition of veteran D Francois Beauchemin will help, but it won’t matter much unless the offense starts going again. This team looked really good in Patrick Roy’s first season as head coach (2013-14), but it turned into a pumpkin last year. We think the losing version of the Avs is the real one. They’re in for another year of rebuilding. 6. Dallas Stars Chicago’s losses have been Dallas’ gains. Patrick Sharp and Johnny Oduya are here to help out a Dallas team that was a borderline playoff squad last year. Sharp and Oduya are good players, but this offseason’s moves are more like band-aids than cure-alls. Dallas isn’t worse, but most of the mid-level teams in this division are now better, and Dallas is a step behind. 5. Winnipeg Jets The Jets are a very young team, which makes them a very exciting one – and a tough one to handicap. There will be good times ahead for the Jets: 2014 draft pick Nikolaj Ehlers will likely make an impact this season or next. Is this is a playoff year for the Jets? Well, maybe – but at the very least, next year will be.
