2017-18 Ottawa Senators Training Camp

TRAINING CAMP NOTES

Camp roster  The Senators 2017-18 camp roster includes 57 players: Six goaltenders, 18 defencemen and 33 forwards.  Nineteen (19) players participated in the 2017 rookie camp and tournament in Ottawa and Toronto. The list of camp invitees is built primarily around the Senators’ . Twenty-six (26) players were Ottawa selections in NHL drafts, 13 players were signed as free agents, 10 players were obtained in trades, three players are signed to contracts, three players are on professional tryouts and two players are on amateur tryouts, respectively.  The Senators 2016-17 season training camp roster included 52 players: Five goaltenders, 17 defencemen and 30 forwards of which 24 players were selected by Ottawa in NHL drafts.

Rookie tournament  The Senators participated in their 17th rookie camp and tournament from Sept. 7 to 10. This year’s tournament was held in Toronto with the and also participating.  The Senators won the tournament with a 2-0-0 record and earned at least two victories (of a maximum of three) for a ninth consecutive year; an 8-2 win over Montreal in the tournament’s opener and a 4-3 shootout win over Toronto in the finale. The Senators rookies had trailed 3-0 in the third period before Maxime Lajoie ultimately scored the game- deciding in the shootout’s sixth round.

41 – CRAIG ANDERSON, Goaltender – Catches: Left – Size: 6-2, 187 lbs. – Born: May 21, 1981 (Park Ridge, Ill.) 2016-17 Team: Ottawa (NHL) – Draft: 2001 - Chicago’s third-round pick (73rd overall) – Acquired: Traded from Colorado in exchange for on 2/18/11

2016-17: Reached the 25-win plateau for the third time in four seasons despite missing more than 30 regular season games due to personal reasons after his wife was diagnosed with cancer in late October … Recorded back-to-back shutouts for the third time in his career on Oct. 25 at Vancouver (3-0 win) and on Oct. 30 at (2-0 win) where he made an emotional return to the team to post what was the first shutout in Rogers Place history (37 saves) … Was recognized as the NHL’s First Star of the Week on three occasions (Oct. 31, Nov. 28 and April 10) … Surpassed to move into first place among all-time Senators goaltenders in wins (147) on March 11 at Colorado (4-2 win) … Became only the sixth American to appear in a 500th NHL game as a goaltender on March 25 at Montreal (3-1 loss) … Was selected by the Professional Hockey Writers Association (PHWA) as the Senators’ nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, an award he won at the NHL Awards in June, becoming the first Senator to do so … In conjunction with Mike Condon, became the first pair of franchise goaltenders to each record at least five shutouts in one season while matching the franchise best (10) that was established in 2001-02 … Moved into a tie for the franchise lead with his 21st post-season victory in Game 6 of the team’s Eastern Conference Final series vs. Pittsburgh on May 23 (2-1 win). The victory also saw him become the first goaltender in the NHL expansion era (1968 onwards) with multiple 45-save wins in playoff games in which his team faced elimination … Started each of Ottawa’s 19 playoff games.

2016-17: Spent playing time at all three professional levels, playing mostly with Binghamton (AHL) where he ranked second (O’Connor) among B-Sens goaltenders in earning 12 victories over 34 games … Was recalled to Ottawa (NHL) on one occasion and made his lone Senators appearance on Oct. 28 at (5-2 loss) in playing the game’s final 40 minutes in relief of Andrew Hammond … Made a professional career high 46 saves on April 12 at Rochester (3-2 SO win).

2016-17: Concluded his second full season with Linköping (SHL) where he set new career highs in wins (19), shutouts (four), goals-against average (1.89) and minutes (2,000) … Ranked third among SHL goaltenders in goals-against average and fourth in save percentage while playing the sixth most minutes … Started 33 of Linköping‘s 52 games recording 861 saves (924 shots) … Signed a two-year entry-level contract with Ottawa on March 30, and also signed a professional tryout agreement with Binghamton (AHL) on the same day … Made his North American professional debut with Binghamton in registering 28 saves in a 5-2 loss at Rochester on April 5 … Completed his season with the B-Sens compiling 83 saves over three games.
