European Commission IL-KUMMISSJONI EWROPEA STQARRIJA GĦALL-ISTAMPA Brussell, it-13 ta' Mejju 2013 Ir-reġista Daniż Vinterberg jirbaħ il-Prix MEDIA fil- Festival tal-Films ta’ Cannes Id-Direttur rikonoxxut tal-films Daniż Thomas Vinterberg huwa r-rebbieħ tal-premju Prix MEDIA 2013 tal-Unjoni Ewropea. Il-premju jingħata lill-aħjar proġett ġdid ta’ film b’potenzjal għal suċċess kummerċjali li huwa eliġibbli għall-appoġġ mill-programm tal-UE, MEDIA għaċ-ċinema. Il-premju se jiġi ppreżentat lil Vinterberg minn Androulla Vassiliou, il- Kummissarju Ewropew għall-Edukazzjoni, il-Kultura, il-Multilingwiżmu u ż-Żgħażagħ, waqt il-Festival tal-Films ta’ Cannes nhar il-Ħadd, id-19 ta’ Mejju — ma' għeluq l-44 sena tad- Direttur. Vinterberg jaqsam dan il-premju mal-koawtur Tobias Lindholm u l-produtturi Sisse Graum u Morten Kaufmann għall-proġett ġdid tagħhom tal-film Kollektivet (Il- Kunsill), li jitkellem dwar il-ħajja f’kunsill Daniż fis-sebgħinijiet. Il-film, prodott mill- kumpanija ta' produzzjoni Daniża Zentropa, se jinħadem is-sena d-dieħla. Iċ-ċerimonja tal-għoti tal-premju, li hija miftuħa għall-midja, ssir fil-11:30, fil-Palais des festivals (Café des Palmes). "L-iżvilupp huwa parti vitali u kreattiva ferm fil-proċess tal-film. Hu importanti ferm li jkun hemm istituzzjoni bħall-programm MEDIA tal-Unjoni Ewropea li tirrikonoxxi u tappoġġja l- proċess tal-films fl-aktar stadju delikat, "qal Vinterberg. “Dan huwa premju li jixraq li jingħata lil wieħed mid-diretturi Ewropej b'talent mill-aktar eċċitanti. Il-films ta' Thomas qatt ma jkunu ordinarji: dejjem iqanqlu l-ħsieb, u jiġu rrakkontati u rreċtati b'mod mill-isbaħ. Ma jibżax jieħu riskji u, wara s-suċċess dinji tal- kapolavur tiegħu Jagten fl-2012, qed nistennew ilkoll bil-ħerqa l-film li jmiss tiegħu. Ninsab ferħana ħafna nara li l-proġett tal-film li rebaħ il-Prix MEDIA tal-UE inawgurali fl- 2012, Le Passé minn Asghar Farhadi, intgħażel għall-kompetizzjoni uffiċjali ta' din is-sena f’Cannes," qalet il-Kummissarju Vassiliou. Sfond Vinterberg, li huwa l-President tal-ġurija għall-għażla ta' “Un Certain Regard” fil-festival ta’ din is-sena, tfaċċa għall-ewwel darba fid-dinja bil-film tiegħu tal-1998 Festen (iċ- Ċelebrazzjoni), li rebaħ għadd kbir ta’ premjijiet inkluż il-Premju Speċjali tal-Ġurija f’Cannes. Il-film ġie rilaxxat mingħajr kreditu uffiċjali tad-Direttur, skont il-prinċipji tal- moviment avant-garde tal-films “Dogme 95”, iffurmat minn Vinterberg u ċ-ċinematografi sħabu Lars von Trier, Kristian Levring, u Søren Kragh-Jacobsen. Is-suċċess ta' Vinterberg b’Festen ġie segwit minn The Third Lie (2000), It's All About Love (2003), Dear Wendy (2004), When a Man Comes Home (2007) u Submarino (2010). L-aħħar film, Jagten, li rċieva EUR 100 000 mill-MEDIA għall-iżvilupp u d-distribuzzjoni, kien ukoll suċċess kbir, li għalih Mads Mikkelsen rebaħ il-premju tal-aqwa attur f'Cannes tas-sena li għaddiet. IP/13/419 Prix MEDIA tal-UE Il-Prix MEDIA tal-Unjoni Ewropea jingħata lill-aħjar proġett b’potenzjal ta' suċċess kummerċjali sottomess għal finanzjament tal-iżvilupp mill-programm MEDIA fl-2013. Ix- xogħol jista’ jkun fittizju, film animat jew dokumentarju iżda jrid ikun film għaċ-ċinema. L- ispejjeż ta’ żvilupp li huma eliġibbli għal appoġġ fil-qafas ta’ MEDIA jinkludu t-tħejjija tax- xenarju, it-tiftix u l-identifikazzjoni tal-atturi ewlenin u tal-persunal u l-preparazzjoni tal- pjan ta’ finanzjament, il-kummerċjalizzazzjoni inizjali u l-produzzjoni pilota. Ir-rebbieħ jintgħażel minn Bord ta’ Esperti indipendenti u rappreżentanti tal-Kummissjoni Ewropea u l-Aġenzija Eżekuttiva għall-Edukazzjoni, l-Awdjoviżiv u l-Kultura, li tamministra l- programm MEDIA. Rendezvous Ewropew f’Cannes Bejn id-19 u l-20 ta' Mejju se jseħħ ir-“Rendezvous Ewropew” annwali f’Cannes. Ir- Rendezvous huwa l-punt ewlieni ta’ avvenimenti marbuta mal-programm MEDIA u opportunità għall-Kummissarju Vassiliou biex tiltaqa mal-professjonisti mid-dinja tal-films u dawk li jfasslu l-politika. Il-Kummissarju se tindirizza seminar dwar it-tisħiħ tal- eċċezzjoni kulturali, li hu f’idejn l-istitut nazzjonali tal-films Franċiż (CNC, Centre national du cinéma et de l’’image animée) fl-10am nhar l-20 ta’ Mejju, segwit minn diskussjoni tal- Kummissjoni Ewropea dwar iċ-ċinema u forom oħra tal-arti (mill-10:30 sanofsinhar). Ewropa Kreattiva — il-futur tal-programm MEDIA. L-2014 jimmarka l-bidu ta’ era ġdida għal MEDIA bħala parti mill-programm “Ewropa Kreattiva”. Il-programm il-ġdid se jkompli jipprovdi għotjiet bħala appoġġ għall-iżvilupp tal-films, it-taħriġ u d-distribuzzjoni, kif ukoll it-tnedija ta’ fond ta’ garanzija ta’ self ġdid li għandu l-għan li jagħmilha eħfef għas-setturi kulturali u kreattivi biex jinkiseb aċċess għall-finanzjament. Il-programm MEDIA jgħin liċ-ċinematografi biex jiksbu espożizzjoni internazzjonali u jżid il-kompetittività tal-industrija ċinematografika Ewropea. Ewropa Kreattiva huwa mistenni li jkollu baġit globali ta’ madwar EUR 1.3 biljun bejn l-2014 u l- 2020, żieda ta’ kważi 9 % meta mqabbel mal-programmi eżistenti MEDIA u Kultura. Presents ANOTHER ROUND A film by Thomas Vinterberg 116 mins, Denmark, 2020 Language: Danish with English subtitles Official Selection: Cannes 2020 and TIFF 2020 Distribution Publicity Mongrel Media Inc Bonne Smith 217 – 136 Geary Ave Star PR Toronto, Ontario, Canada, M6H 4H1 Tel: 416-488-4436 Tel: 416-516-9775 Fax: 416-516-0651 Twitter: @starpr2 E-mail: [email protected] E-mail: [email protected] www.mongrelmedia.com LOG LINE Another Round is a fun, moving, life-affirming and thought-provoking drama about friendship, freedom, love – and alcohol. SYNOPSIS There’s a theory that we should be born with a small amount of alcohol in our blood, and that modest inebriation opens our minds to the world around us, diminishing our problems and increasing our creativity. Heartened by that theory, Martin and three of his friends, all weary high school teachers, embark on an experiment to maintain a constant level of intoxication throughout the workday. If Churchill won WW2 in a heavy daze of alcohol, who knows what a few drops might do for them and their students? Initial results are positive, and the teachers’ little project turns into a genuine academic study. Both their classes and their results continue to improve, and the group feels alive again! As the units are knocked back, some of the participants see further improvement and others go off the rails. It becomes increasingly clear that while alcohol may have fueled great results in world history, some bold acts carry consequences. DIRECTOR’S INTENT THOMAS VINTERBERG “I never drink before breakfast.” The quote is from Churchill, who helped to defeat the Germans and win World War II, while under the excessive and constant influence of alcohol.
