Dimensions: 11.0in. x 8.5in. x 0.1in.Young footballers who make it in the premiership can go from rags to riches in a very short time. Almost overnight their fame and fortune can change. If you have had a serious injury you are not rushed back on the playing field to soon as it will not recover and heal correctly. Ultimately there are consequences for the lack of rehabilitation with it. So the question needs to be asked, what happens if you give young footballers to much too soon Can we treat the process like an injury as previously described What will be the eects of this It can have both a positive and a negative eect on the individuals concerned. Take for example, George Best, who had all of the talent on the field but o the field lived the life of a young man who wanted to enjoy life with no boundaries, no limits and no fear. Paul Gascoigne, who was a brilliant footballer whose genii on the pitch knew no boundaries, he felt that he could do anything on it and the same o it. Lets look at players and role models like Michael Owen, David Beckham and Thierry Henry - the ultimate professionals. Modern day professional players are not only our role models on the pitch but the same o it. With the increasing pressures placed on them with their superstar status its important that they are now looked at in this way as they are only in the public eye through their football attributes and for no negative reasons. NUFC AND STEPHEN 3. FOUNDATION NEWS 4. BOX OFFICE NEWS 5. SENSORY ROOM UPDATE 1. INTRODUCTION The new season is upon us and although we have faced the expected difficult start, we're all behind the team and believe in them wholeheartedly. The sensory room is now fully up and running, and is proving very popular. The wheelchair spaces have been increased, so we now have 234 slots available. There is more accessible seating in the Gallowgate. Change is always ongoing. I was at a meeting with the disabled supporters association (NUDSA) and they are this month celebrating 20 years in business. They are a quite remarkable group of individuals, who never fail to inspire me. The main protagonists are Gareth Beard, who you may remember had an article in last month’s newsletter and has been the Chair of NUDSA for years, Stephen Miller who is a highly decorated Paralympian, and writes in this newsletter, Ros Miller (Stephens mum / coach / boss) and the Leazes ender Joe Ayton who has been there since the start. They have produced a magnificent magazine which celebrates their 20 years and looks back at the journey. It is well worth a read if you can get a copy. NUDSA have been instrumental in working with NUFC to invoke a better deal for disabled supporters, and I hope they are even stronger in 2028 when they celebrate their 30th. They were emerging as title rivals to Ferguson’s Manchester United and he was keen for Morgan to move to Old Trafford. Morgan chose Blackburn, signing for the Ewood Park side in 1994. A year later, Blackburn won their one and only Premier League title. But despite training with the league-winning squad, and making the bench for league and European matches, Morgan found himself released – and without a club – almost three years later. It was only weeks before captaining the Ireland Under-20s to a third-place finish in the 1997 World Championships in Malaysia. Put simply, Morgan fell by the wayside as Blackburn – and their Premier League rivals – regularly shunned the promotion of youth in favour of big-money signings. The 19 WHERE HAVE ALL THE IRISH GONE? birth of the Premier League in 1992 ushered in an era of stellar signings, compounded by the Bosman ruling in 1995, which removed obstacles to foreign players playing in England – a double whammy which would change the fortunes of Irish players for ever.

MLS as a Sports Product – the Prominence of the World’s Game in the U.S. April 8, 2021 Abstract The purpose of this Working Paper is to analyze how soccer at the professional level in the U.S., with Major League Soccer as a focal point, has developed over the span of a quarter of a century. It is worthwhile to examine the growth of MLS from its first game in 1996 to where the league currently stands as a business as it moves past its 25th anniversary. The 1994 World Cup (held in the U.S.) and the subsequent implementation of MLS as a U.S. professional league exerted a major positive influence on soccer participation and fandom in the U.S. Consequently, more importance was placed on soccer in the country’s culture. The research reported here explores the league’s evolution and development through the cohesion existing between its sporting and business development, as well as its performance.

  • Inside out Manchester United
Inside Out Manchester United WORKSHEET A Many English football teams have the word United in their name, but by far the most famous is from the northern city of Manchester and plays in red shirts and white shorts. When football fans refer to Manchester United just as ‘United’, as they often do, other fans always know who they mean. It’s possible that United have more fans than any other football team in the world. Their stadium, Old Trafford, holds around 75,000 people and is full for almost every match. It’s also true that tens of millions of people around the world watch their matches on TV, and that when they play friendlies thousands of miles away in Asia or Africa (as they have done in recent years in July or August, before the English football season starts) the crowds are always very big. The club was founded back in 1878 and has had a successful history. It has won the English championship eighteen times (the same number as Liverpool, their biggest rivals) and the European Champions’ League (previously the European Cup) three times. A well-known tragedy in United’s history was when many of their best players died in a plane crash in Munich, Germany, in 1958. It seemed the club might not recover, but ten years later, in 1968, they became the first English team to win the European Cup. United’s best players in their great team of the late 1960s included Bobby Charlton (probably the most famous English footballer of the 1960s) and George Best (who some say was the best player who never played in a World Cup – the reason was that he was from Northern Ireland, a country that never qualified for the World Cup during his career).

  • Of Our Foundation
Finding more effective ways to detect and treat cancer OF OUR FOUNDATION Bob and I set up our Foundation 10 years ago because we’d been asked for help. We’d not been asked to set up a charity, just if we knew anyone who might like to donate some money to equip a new cancer drug trials centre. That request came from Professor Ruth Plummer, a woman I admire greatly. She was trying to raise £500,000 to fit out what eventually became the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre. They were moving the clinical trials team from its old site to a fantastic, purpose-built facility in the Northern Centre for Cancer Care in Newcastle. As Bob said at the time, they’re a first class team and should have a first class stadium. Alongside a marvellous team of caring professionals, Professor Plummer gives patients the opportunity to try new cancer drugs that might help extend their lives. And in undertaking the trials, these patients are helping build our knowledge about cancer treatment. They’re helping the people who will come after them who will also have to face this terrible disease. Well, Bob and I didn’t understand how Professor Plummer and her colleagues could raise this huge sum of money and keep doing such a demanding day job. That’s why we decided to launch our charity, Lady Elsie with Zara Stokoe, who has been fundraising in memory of her mum, Avril to raise the money for her. It was one of the proudest moments in my husband’s life when he was We don’t have professional fundraisers to organise events or able to hand over that first cheque for money we’d raised.
