Acquire Les Bouquinistes

Dear Ashlee Hallengren,

A radiant summer afternoon in last year drew me to the Seine, where I knew the sunlight would lure the often elusive, generally taciturn, always enigmatic bouquinistes to prop open the ubiquitous green lids of their wooden stands. While the prevalence of cheap tchotchkes and mass produced posters is undeniable, among them one discovers the occasional literary or artistic treasure. The intrigue and mystery that come with the search are irresistible. That day, I would spend hours along the banks of the implacable river, rifling through the eclectic displays, indulging the possibility that I might unearth a of words or an image with the power to inspire, to change a mind, or even a life.

I wondered, how could love of wine and power of word unite to inspire social change? The idea was to donate a portion of the sales of an incredible red field blend we’d been working on since 2014. But donate to what cause? Why not allow the incredible writing of the socially conscious authors of our time to inform us? Tra

We approached The New York Times’ internationally acclaimed Nicholas Kristof, whose latest , A Path Appears, co-authored by Sheryl WuDunn, encourages citizens of the world to nurture a global social conscience and examine what we can do as individuals to foster socio-economic equality.

Et voilà... Les Bouquinistes: Chapter One.

WINEMAKER'S NOTES: "When creating a Napa Valley field blend such as Les Bouquinistes, it’s important to precisely know your components. Every wine has a story, and every part of the blend adds to that story. Depth, structure, and color are provided by the Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot elements, while the bright cherry, plum and tamarind aromatic characters are written in by Syrah and Grenache. As the chapters unfold, racy acidity on the middle palate is delivered by finely made Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with a hint of jam from our Zinfandel. This is how we wrote the story for the 2014." - Kent Jarman
