Life Foundation, Inc AV ROOM TOUR 1 AV ROOM INTRODUCTION Welcome to the A. V. Room... a veritable plethora of accomplishments spanning over fifty years. These displays show photographs of Drs. Sid and Nell Williams with their friends, political leaders, graduation speakers and family members. Dr. Sid lead a multi-faceted life that brought him face to face with presidents of industries and universities, as well as countries--our own and others! He entertained Chiropractors from all over the world, celebrities from the entertainment industry, and students, whom he dearly loved. This room also contains photographs of the Trumpet Awards which were sponsored by Life University from 1996 to 2003, saluting African/American Achievement. Here you will find notebooks, news articles and documents published during the years after Drs. Sid and Nell graduated from Palmer in 1956. They opened their first clinic in Austell, Georgia in May of the same year and eventually, had seventeen clinics throughout the Southeast. At this time advertising was considered taboo and chiropractors were commonly known as cultists. Insurance equality for chiropractors was non-existent and Medicare did not accept chiropractic care. There was no unified front in chiropractic to seek insurance equality, insure the public had freedom of choice with regard to health care, provide educational literature, and render care to people of all races regardless of their financial ability to pay. As a means to fulfill the need for chiropractic literature, Drs. Sid and Nell opened Si- Nel Publishing in 1957. Si-Nel was the first of its kind in supplying chiropractors with much needed health tracts and equipment. At the Williams Clinic, weekly advertisements were published in the newspapers and weekly lay lectures were given for current and new patients. In the Deep South segregation and racial discrimination was a standard. Dr. Sid did not see racial color but he did see subluxations and the need for quality chiropractic care for the black community. As a result, the Triple H clinics were established throughout the 2 Southeast--HHH stood for Harmony, Health, and Happiness. As the clinics became more successful, people would travel for up to 100 miles to attend a lecture. In many circles Dr. Sid became known as a healer. On more than one occasion a person attending the lay lecture would shake his hand and be healed of their ailment. At the clinic there was a collection of discarded crutches, kidney stones, and gallstones. Soon fellow practitioners became interested in their success and started attending lay lectures, along with the patients, at the clinic in Austell. Meetings for local D.C.’s were called Life Society meetings, which eventually grew into what is now known as Life Dynamic Essentials (DE) Meetings. In 1964 the first official Dynamic Essentials meeting was held in Atlanta with an attendance of eight local chiropractors. These were educational, motivational seminars for chiropractors, chiropractic assistants and families of chiropractors. The Lasting Purpose application was the basis for the seminars. The meetings grew rapidly under Dr. Sid’s leadership and began to attract large numbers of chiropractors from around the US, Canada and many other countries thus the unfolding of Life Foundation. The following year Life Foundation was founded as a 501(C)3 IRS-approved non-profit organization dedicated to the purpose of service, education and research. One of the first projects begun by the Foundation was the publication of Health for Life, a tabloid newspaper containing articles and photographs of chiropractic patients that had experienced outstanding results under chiropractic care. These were ultimately distributed by chiropractors and read by millions of their patients. Fund raising efforts began for the purpose of building a chiropractic clinic on wheels; consequently, Life Foundation established the Health Mobile, which was a modern, completely equipped, chiropractic clinic on wheels. This free service program introduced thousands of people in the USA to the benefits of chiropractic as it traveled from state to state. The Health Mobile traveled across the nation offering free Chiropractic services to all and this was instrumental in creating awareness of the benefits of chiropractic. Eventually the Health Mobile was utilized as a health clinic in 3 an underprivileged part of downtown Atlanta where chiropractic services were provided free of cost to the underprivileged and needy. In 1965, Dr. Sid established Life Foundation, Inc, a non-profit organization dedicated to service, research and education. Life Foundation was the founding organization of Life University. Contributions multiplied by thirty years of meetings resulted in donations of $2 Million to Life University. Dr. Sid became a legislative advocate for the Chiropractic profession not only in the State of Georgia but nationwide, challenging states that did not have chiropractic laws separate from medical laws. He also offered positive solutions to the attacks on chiropractic by the medical profession. The second edition of Today's Chiropractic confirms the continued efforts for chiropractic advancement including the requests for Medicare petitions to ensure chiropractic equality in the United States. A milestone event occurred in 1973 when Chiropractic services were approved under Medicare which led to other insurance coverage. This was the result of Dr. Sid's legislative efforts to have more than two million letters written by chiropractic patients sent to U. S. Congressmen. This was a tremendous victory for the chiropractic profession nation-wide and one that required years of effort! For many years, Dr. Sid had spoken of the need for a chiropractic college to be established in metropolitan Atlanta, the hub of the Southeast. Such an institution would be the logical extension of the education, research and service efforts promoted by Life Foundation. Dr. Sid envisioned a college founded on the principles of chiropractic as established by the Palmers and other dedicated chiropractic pioneers. In 1974, Dr. Sid filed the necessary papers with the State of Georgia to operate Life Chiropractic College. The first class of 22 students was welcomed on January 20, 1975. The college was located at 1269 Barclay Circle in Marietta, Georgia, in one 4 building rented from Lockheed. It contained a few offices, classrooms, library and a small bookstore. The library consisted of wooden planks set on bricks holding donated books. Dr. Sid immediately applied for accreditation with the Council on Chiropractic Education and worked diligently toward that goal from the beginning. In December 4, 1977, Life Chiropractic College graduated its first 35 Doctors of Chiropractic. In October 1979, Life enrolled its largest class yet with 200 students entering fall quarter. Life Chiropractic College was on its way to becoming the world's largest chiropractic educational institution. Throughout the years until 2002 when Dr. Sid retired, many milestones were accomplished. To name a few: Founded Si-Nel Publishing Company Founded Life Chiropractic College Founded Dynamic Essentials Seminars Medicare and insurance approval for chiropractic care Accreditation for Life Chiropractic College Life Chiropractic College achieved University status Dr. Sid organized a Team of Chiropractors to adjust the athletes at the Goodwill Game in Moscow.
