Adrian started collecting over 40 years ago and is well known on the UK circuit. He started at 12 with a passion of James Bond that remained with him throughout his life. From running his own poster gallery in Fulham to consulting for Bonham’s Adrian’s knowledge was second to none. There were regular visits to the USA to meet clients old and new. James Bond was always his obsession and it is one of the most complete and in depth James Bond collections we have ever seen. The Adrian Cowdry Collection will be split over two days due to the sheer number of lots and will feature several treasures that have not appeared on the market in recent years, Entertainment Memorabilia specialist at Ewbank’s Alastair McCrea stated, ‘The collection focused on rarity, quality and personal preference, Adrian specialised in James Bond and this is one of the most complete collections we have handled in recent years. We are delighted to be conducting the auction.’ The Collection includes some very rare British Quad movie posters including The of The Werewolf from 1960, the rare Hammer Production directed by Terence Fisher, other film posters include James Bond , From Russia With Love and the classic To Catch A Thief. Aside from film posters Adrian was a fanatic collector of models including a rare James Bond replica pistol from The Man With The Golden Gun. This was released as a 20th anniversary edition from S.D. Studios. Also catalogued are limited edition models from & Kotobukiya. Autographs include Laurel & Hardy, , , Alfred Hitchcock to name a few. ADRIAN COWDRY

Adrian Cowdry became a fan of James Bond from the age of 5 after his father took him to see Goldfinger at the cinema and he instantly became hooked. From the age of 12 he began to collect the novels and then moved on to other associated memorabilia such as autographs, original movie posters and stills. His passion for Bond carried on throughout his life and he was heavily involved in the early days of the James Bond British Fan Club. During this time he got to meet many of the actors and crew who had made the films, including one incident in which Adrian unfortunately stumbled in the presence of Sean Connery while attempting to get his autograph during a pro-celebrity golf match. The incident was not quickly forgotten and was brought up on subsequent meetings, much to their amusement. Having widened his interest in Bond to include all other areas of film, Adrian built up a valuable range of knowledge that he put to good use when he started his first business in 1989 along with his wife Eve selling at specialist movie memorabilia events. As the business grew, many of their clients became friends and Adrian would find himself travelling the world in search of rare and interesting items to sell which eventually culminated in the co-founding of the successful Cine Art Gallery in Fulham. Adrian’s knowledge and natural enthusiasm was much in demand and he would later be involved with many of the major London auction houses including here at Ewbanks. While not busy collecting and buying he would even find time to appear in front of the camera, appearing as an extra on such films as Harry Potter, Bridget Jones and . He continued his love of movies, Harley Davidson and Hawaiian shirts throughout his life but James Bond would remain a constant that he continued to collect on and enjoy as much as he did as when he was a boy. Adrian was a big person, with a big personality and he made a big impact wherever he went. He will be fondly remembered and missed by many from his years in the business and the relationships he made. Adrian may now be gone, but James Bond will return and the collection that is here today is a legacy to them both. EWBANK AUCTIONEERS In 1994 we acquired the Burnt Common Auction Rooms, which are situated just off the A3, under ten minutes away from junction 10 on the M25. It is a very prominent site in an out of town location giving easy access and acres of parking. Woking main line station is 4 miles away with trains to Waterloo (23 minutes). Throughout our time in Guildford, we have had the privilege of advising thousands of clients on the valuation and sale of Antiques and Fine Art and have conducted well in excess of a hundred Antiques and Fine Arts auctions and over three hundred General Sales. When we started in 1990 we held six auctions a year and we are now expecting to hold more than 36 auctions in the next twelve months.

If they are to succeed, businesses like ours must give clients and buyers an efficient and friendly service and, over the years, we have always tried to maintain the highest standards, adhering to the principles of probity and ethics of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the Society of Fine Art Auctioneers and Valuers, of which we are Members. Most of our new clients come to us on recommendation, from professional advisers or existing clients. As the costs of selling by auction in Central London have rocketed we have benefitted from the general trend in recent years for more important items to be sold outside the capital. Catalogues are produced and circulated to prospective purchasers by post and E-mail and full details, including digital illustration of almost all lots in our quarterly Antique and Fine Art auctions, are included on the internet. Buyers are attracted from all over the world.

We have an agreement with artfact.com, who list our antique sales on Ebay, take commission bids from prospective buyers and facilitate active participation in the auction from a PC anywhere in the world at the time that the sale is actually in progress. This gives a far greater global marketing ability. We are trail-blazing in this field as there are only a handful of other Antique and Fine Art salerooms in the UK who also list on Ebay. We see this as being the way forward for the future and it will maximise our ability to achieve the best possible prices for our clients. In our first internet linked auction in 2005 there were nearly 20,000 visits to our online catalogue generating over 500 specific enquiries and the figures have risen markedly since then.

Ewbank Auctioneers has grown from humble beginnings holding six sales a year, to the position that we hold today, with our own salerooms and some twenty sales a year. Turnover since 1990 has increased by over 800%. Building refurbishments works have just been completed, which include a new mezzanine floor doubling our existing floor space, a new entrance, offices, a new heating system and external face-lift.
