ABARE FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2002 by David '87 and Kim Abare, to be awarded to a student within or entering the Corps of Cadets with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and demonstrated financial need.

GEORGE I. ALDEN TRUST SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1985, the Alden Trust Scholarship was created to encourage students in Associate Degree programs to continue their education in Bachelor Degree programs studying elementary or secondary school teaching, science or mathematics.

FLOYD W. AND FRANCES G. ALTORFER SCHOLARSHIP Established as a loan fund in 1963 and converted to an endowed scholarship Fund in 1990. Awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior in Mechanical Engineering. The student does not have to be an academic leader at the time of the award, but should be a student who has shown steady improvement in his academic performance and shows promise of being among the best students in the program. Student should be of good standing and personal character.

PAUL REVERE ANDREWS SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1975 by Paul Revere Andrews, Class of 1930, and longtime trustee of .

VIRGINIA PRENTICE ETTINGER ANDREWS SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1980 by Paul R. P. Andrews, Class of 1973, in honor originally (now in memory of) his mother, Virginia Ettinger Andrews. Paul R. P. Andrews’ father was Paul Revere Andrews. Recipient should be a woman, junior or senior, in the Corps of Cadets. Recipient should be a Humanities .

BRIAN AND SANDRA ASHE SCHOLARSHIP The Brian and Sandra Ashe Scholarship was established by the Ashes with a planned gift. The scholarship is awarded to members of the Norwich University Corps of Cadets who demonstrate financial need and is renewable provided the recipient maintains a GPA of 2.75. Preference is given to members of the Corps who are Eagle Scouts however, if no Eagle Scout is identified, the scholarship will be awarded based upon the initial criteria.

HILDA AND VICTOR AUERBACH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2004 by Gabe Auerbach, Class of 1961, in honor of his parents, Hilda and Victor Auerbach. This scholarship is awarded to a member of the Corps of Cadets with demonstrated need. The order of priority for the award will be first, a student from Brooklyn, second, a student from , and third, a student from New York state. If these criteria cannot be met, a student from will receive the award. The scholarship is renewable annually.

JONATHAN BAKER SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1933 by the will of Mrs. Nellie Baker Smith of Charlestown, New Hampshire, in memory of her father, Jonathan Baker, Class of 1824. Scholarships are awarded to needy and worthy students.

PERLEY BAKER SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1987 in memory of Perley D. Baker, Professor of Chemistry, to be awarded to students of chemistry.

WENDELIN J. BECK SCHOLARSHIP The scholarship fund was established in memory of Wendelin J. Beck in 1994 by his son, Robert W. Beck, Class of 1942, with a gift from Robert’s estate. The scholarship is awarded to students studying engineering who are also enrolled in ROTC.

BRIAN BILL ’01 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship was established in 2011, by friends and family of Brian Bill ’01. Preference of this scholarship is given to students in the following order; first to a member of the Corps of Cadets who is a son or daughter of a former Navy SEAL or other member of the U.S. Armed Services Special Forces; second preference is to a member of the civilian student body who is a son or daughter of a former Navy SEAL or other member of the U.S. Armed Services Special Forces; third preference is to student who have demonstrated interest in becoming a Navy SEAL; this scholarship then may be given to a student in the Corps of Cadets.

GERALD ADAMS BIXBY AND WALTER THOMAS MCHUGO SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1982 in memory of Gerald Adams Bixby, Class of 1918, and Walter Thomas McHugo by their children Patricia Bixby McHugo and John McHugo, Class of 1945. The scholarship is awarded to students enrolled in the Corps of Cadets with preference given to residents of .

MELVIN F. BOOMER SCHOLARSHIP The scholarship was established in 1991 by a bequest from the estate of Melvin F. Boomer, Class of 1933, for the benefit of students with demonstrated financial need.

NORWICH UNIVERSITY BOSTON GOLF SCHOLARSHIP Presented annually by the Norwich University Boston Golf Committee to incoming sophomores, juniors, or seniors from the greater Boston area. The awards are financed by the Boston Golf Tournament that is held each year. The scholarship is presented to individuals who exhibit a commitment to the Norwich community and academic excellence as well as demonstrated financial need.

BROCKWAY SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1957 by the will of Blanche Emily Brockway of Montpelier, Vermont. The recipient must be from Vermont.

BROX FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1998 by Charles A. Brox, Jr. USAR (Ret.), Class of 1957, his wife, Carolyn, their daughters, Sharon Brox Wykoff and Kathleen Brox Welsh ’85, and their son-in-law, Robert W. Welsh, Jr. ’84. The Brox Family Scholarship is awarded to students who have a positive impact on the college community through involvement in meaningful campus and community activities.

RICHARD BRUNI SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1981 by Mr. and Mrs. Archi Bruni in memory of their son, Richard L. Bruni, Class of 1983. Richard was a Platoon Sergeant of A Company and holder of the Distinctive GMC Cadet Ribbon.

“POP” BRYAN ENDOWMENT Established in 1983 by Tom Howes in honor of William A. “Pop” Bryan, Professor of Geography, to be awarded to students studying earth sciences.

JUDGE THADDEUS BUCZKO ’47 SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1999 by Thaddeus Buczko, Class of 1947. Preference is given to students from the Salem, Massachusetts, then from Essex County, and then to residents of Massachusetts. The student must demonstrate financial need.

THE BUGLER SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2006 by Donald I. and Barbara L. Richmond, preference of this scholarship is first given to a member of the Corps of Cadets in the marching band who specializes in military calls using a bugle or trumpet. If the first preference is not available, preference will be given to any member of the marching band or other Norwich musical organizations. Third preference will be given to students who are members of the Corps of Cadets.

CLARKE S. P. BUNTING ’33 SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2001 by Tim Mellon in memory of his uncle, Clarke S. P. Bunting, Class of 1933, who served as a Trustee of the University from 1977-2001. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student in the Corp of Cadets over the four-year course of his or her enrollment. Preference is given to students from Missouri or who maintains a minimum grade point average of 2.5 with demonstrated financial need.

CHARLES R. BURD SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1989 by his wife, Martha Burd, family, friends, and classmates in memory of Charles R. Burd, Class of 1951.

COL ANTHONY J. CARBONE ’58 SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1998 by gifts from family, alumni, and friends in honor of Colonel Anthony J. Carbone, Class of 1958. Preference is given to cadets who intend to join one of the Armed Forces and who demonstrate financial need.

DANIEL M. CARR ’67 AND DANIEL E. CARR ’37 SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2002 by Daniel M. Carr, Class of 1967, in memory of his father, Daniel E. Carr, Class of 1937. The scholarship is awarded to cadets entering their junior year participating in a commissioning program in one of the branches of the armed forces. The scholarship will not be awarded to students who already have an ROTC scholarship. Juniors can also receive the scholarship in their senior year, as long as they plan on being commissioned in one of the branches of the armed forces. Financial need is a preference.

ROBERT H. AND MARY F. CHASTNEY SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1996 by a bequest from the estate of Mary F. Chastney in memory of Dr. Robert Chastney, long- standing friend of General Harmon, for the benefit of students with demonstrated financial need.

CHARLES CHRISTY ’57 SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2000 by the Security Federal Savings Bank in honor of Charles Christy ’57, former President of the bank. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit to a student from Brockton or Falmouth, Massachusetts, the communities in which the bank’s offices are located. If no student from either of these two communities attends, the scholarship shall be awarded to a student from Barnstable or Plymouth Counties, Massachusetts.

Class of 1929 SCHOLARSHIP A general scholarship established in 1983 by R. Avery Robinson, Class of 1929, in memory of his class.

Class of 1959 SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1995 by the Class of 1959 in honor of their class. It is the preference that this scholarship is awarded to only one student each year who demonstrates financial need, is a member of the Corps of Cadets, in good academic standing, and who has demonstrated leadership skills. Preference is also given to students who are lineal descendents of the class.

Class of 1960 SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2005 by the Class of 1960, this scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman. First preference of this scholarship is given to lineal descendents of the Class of 1960 who are in the Corps of Cadets. Second preference is given to lineal descendents of the Class of 1960 who are civilian students. If the first or second priority is not available, this scholarship may be awarded to students in the Corp of Cadets. The scholarship will be renewed through the student's senior year.

Class of 1961 SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2006 by the Class of 1961 in honor of their class. This scholarship is awarded to students in the Corps of Cadets that have demonstrated financial need.

CLASS OF 1962 SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship was established in 2012 by the alumni and friends of the Class of 1962, in honor of their50th class reunion. This scholarship is awarded annually to one or more students who demonstrate financial need.

Class of 1963 SCHOLARSHIP Established by the Class of 1963 in honor of their class. The scholarship is awarded to a senior in the Corps of Cadets who has financial need and good academic standing. Preference will be given to lineal descendants or cadets sponsored by members of the class. In addition preference may be given to direct lineal descendents of the Class of 1963 who are civilian students, if they meet the requirements of the scholarship.

The Boys of ‘66 SCHOLARSHIP Established by the Class of 1966 in honor of their class. The scholarship is awarded to a senior in the Corps of Cadets who has demonstrated financial need and good academic standing. Preference is given to lineal descendants or cadets sponsored by members of the class.

Class of 1966 VIETNAM VETERANS’ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2000 by George Underhill, Class of 1966, his wife, Lucia Underhill, Class of 1966, and their daughter, Josephine Underhill, Class of 1996, and family, to commemorate the service of the Vietnam Veterans of the Class of 1966. Preference is given to two members of the Corps of Cadets, juniors or seniors or one of each, with demonstrated financial need.

Class of 1967 SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2007 by members of the Norwich University Class of 1967 in honor of their class, this scholarship is awarded to sophomore, junior, or senior students who are members of the Corps of Cadets. Preference is given to students who are lineal descendents of the Class of 1967. The student must have a GPA of 2.0 or better, demonstrate financial need and be an active participant in campus activities.

Class of 1971 JACK STRICOS SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2006 through the generosity of his classmates and friends to honor Jack Stricos, Norwich University Class of 1971, on the occasion of their 35th reunion, this scholarship is awarded to one or more students in the Corps of Cadets who exemplifies the characteristics that Jack presented throughout his time at Norwich. Preference of the scholarship will be give to a student who has demonstrated leadership, academic excellence, and participation in extracurricular activities. The scholarship is renewable through the senior year of the student(s).

Class of 1972 SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2002 by the Class of 1972 to be awarded to students with demonstrated financial need or to lineal descendants of the class. In the case of lineal descendants applying for this scholarship, the lineal descendants will receive preference.

Class of 1974 SCHOLARSHIP The Class of 1974 Scholarship was established in 2004 by the Class of 1974. This scholarship is awarded to members of the Corps of Cadets who demonstrate financial need.

Class of 1980 COL JAMES MOORE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP The Class of 1980 COL James Moore Memorial Scholarship was established in 2005 by the Class of 1980 and the Moore Family with the support of COL Moore’s many friends. Scholarships are awarded to juniors in the Corps of Cadets who demonstrate qualities of character and leadership.

Class of 1990 ROB SOLTES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP The Class of 1990 Rob Soltes Memorial Scholarship was established in 2004 by the classmates, friends and family of Dr. Charles Robert Soltes, killed in action in Iraq. The scholarship is awarded to a student in the Corps of Cadets.

CLASS OF 1992 DUCHENE/MALPERE SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2004 by the friends, family and classmates of Jerry DuChene and Art Malpere, this scholarship is awarded to outstanding leaders of the Corps of Cadets who plan to commission with the Marine Corps. Preference of this scholarship is given to students who demonstrate a commitment to and are engaged in community service activities.

ELIZABETH GOOD COMOLLI SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1989 by Joseph C. Comolli in memory of his wife, Elizabeth Good Comolli of Montpelier, Vermont. The scholarship is awarded annually to nursing students; preference is given to persons born in Vermont or residents of the state.

CLEMENT J. CONFESSORE LEADERSHIP TROPHY Established in 2002 by Diane Confessore and her sons, Clement R. Confessore, Class of 1958, and Gary Confessore, Class of 1963, in memory of M/SGT Clement J. Confessore, Veteran of the European and Pacific Theatres, WWII, and the Korean Conflict. Preference is given to the Cadet who demonstrated the best leadership skills as a First Sergeant in the Corps of Cadets during the previous year. This cadet is chosen annually by the Commandant of Cadets. The cadet will be awarded a scholarship (applied toward his or her tuition) and will be presented with a pair of gold plated spurs – mirroring the style once used by the – during Homecoming at halftime.

HARRY B. CORRIGAN, D.D.S. SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1993 by family, friends, and Norwich alumni in memory of Dr. Harry B. Corrigan. The scholarship is awarded to students who are juniors or seniors in the Corps of Cadets who have actively participated in the Corps leadership and who have maintained high academic standing.

ROBERT F. CRECCO ’47 COMMUNICATIONS SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2006 by Robert F. Crecco ’47 this scholarship is awarded to one civilian student and one corps student annually. Students should be a junior or senior, who are actively engaged within the Communications major. Preference will be given to students who actively participate on the student newspaper. This scholarship may be renewed through the student’s senior year.

MARTHA B. CURRIE SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2001 through the will of Ellen C. Hill in memory of her mother, Martha B. Currie, and the Montpelier Seminary Class of 1909, to provide scholarships for students majoring in Nursing.

PETER F. DALTON ’65 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship was established in 2011 by John A. Dalton, to honor the memory of his father. This scholarship is awarded to students who are members of the Corps of Cadets. The students must be majoring in Business.

LINDLEY I. DEAN SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1956 by Edith J. Dean in memory of her husband, Lindley I. Dean, Class of 1911. The scholarship is awarded annually to freshmen or sophomore students from Massachusetts, with preference to students in the Corps of Cadets from Essex County, who demonstrate financial need, promise of success, scholarship, and character.

DEARING SCHOLARSHIP FUND Established in 1987 in memory of George Emerson Dearing by bequests from Arthur Allen Dearing and Evelyn Cooper Dearing for scholarship funds to students at Norwich University.

DEMOVICK FAMILY ENDOWMENT FOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN MATHEMATICS, SCIENCE AND NURSING Established in 2009 by Harvey, NU ’68 and Jeanne DeMovick to have a direct and positive impact on students and faculty within the School of Math and Sciences. This endowment is awarded annually to three students who have the highest cumulative grade point average following their junior year. Students must be enrolled in the following academic to be a recipient of this award; Mathematics, Nursing, and one of the true Sciences (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Geology).

DENNY FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1899 by the terms of the will of Chauncey Denny, Trustee of Norwich University from 1890 until 1899. Mr. Denny was born in Berlin, Vermont and moved to Northfield in 1847. A century later, the Denny family continues to support this scholarship. Preference is given to any worthy student with demonstrated financial need from Northfield, Vermont.

DANIEL R. DESROCHERS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND Established in 2002, this scholarship will assist a deserving student from the state of New Hampshire, taking classes in or seeking a major from the Department of Biology and Life Sciences within the Division of Math and Science. The recipient should also participate in community service activities.

ROBERT H. DOLE SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1969 by the will of Henriette F. Dole in memory of her husband, Robert H. Dole, to assist deserving students who otherwise might not be able to obtain the advantage of a college education. Mr. Dole was the nephew of former Norwich President Charles Dole, Class of 1869.

GEORGE F. DONOVAN SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1993 by Trustee George F. Donovan, Class of 1961, and awarded based on need with preference given to engineering students.

JOSEPH N. DOYLE SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2001 by Allen ’71 and Kate Doyle in honor of his father, Joseph N. Doyle. Preference is given to students from the greater Boston area or the state of Massachusetts who maintain a 2.5 minimum GPA with demonstrated financial need.

THE DRECHSEL FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2005 by Colonel Carl Drechsel, USAR (Ret), Class of 1967, and wife Sandra Drechsel. Preference is given to students within or entering the Corps of Cadets majoring in Engineering, Math, or Science with demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to students from the State of Texas and/or have family members that are Veterans or are currently serving in the United States Military. Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The scholarship will be renewed on an annual basis through the student’s senior year as long as the student maintains a GPA not less than 3.0.

DUTTON FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2001 by the estate of Paul B. Dutton of Northfield, Vermont in memory of his wife, Irene C. Dutton, and his mother, Effie D. Dutton. The scholarship is awarded to a member of the Corps of Cadets with demonstrated financial need.

ARTHUR EDMUNDS ’16 AND EVERETT W. MARSDEN SCHOLARSHIP This general scholarship was established in 2001 by the will of Arthur D. Edmunds, Class of 1916.

SLIM FELLOWS SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1990 by the will of Harold C. Fellows, Class of 1914. Preference is given to students from Laconia, New Hampshire.

FIRE BRIGADE SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1985 in memory of David Lee Anderson, Matthew R. Baran, and Patrick de Kramer, and awarded to a student of good character who has shown interest in the University and community service.

JOSEPH AND GUNNY FOWLER SCHOLARSHIP FUND The Joseph and Gunny Fowler Scholarship Fund was created in 2003 by COL Joseph G. Fowler. Scholarships are awarded to one or more deserving students who are members of the Norwich University Corps of Cadets.

GARDEN STATE SCHOLARSHIP The Garden State Scholarship was established in 2002 by Harry Sholk, Class of 1952. Preference is given to a student from New Jersey who is a member of the Corps of Cadets. The scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman who has demonstrated financial need and who exemplifies a belief in diversity and in the intrinsic worth of all persons. It may be renewed for three consecutive years provided he or she maintains a GPA of not less than 2.5.

LIEUTENANT COLONEL GEORGE A. AND NANCY M. GARRISON SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2005 by the Garrison Family in memory of George Garrison and to honor a lifetime of service to Norwich University by George and his wife Nancy. This scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman in the Corps of Cadets who has demonstrated a financial need and exemplifies a belief in the value of education. The scholarship will be renewed on an annual basis through the student’s senior year as long as the student maintains a GPA of not less than 2.5.

LTC RITCHIE GARRISON SCHOLARSHIP: IN HONOR OF THE Class of 1937 Established in 1988 by Colonel Garrison and others of the Class of 1937. Scholarships are awarded to members of the Corps of Cadets.

SAMUEL AND SUE GELLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2000 by James, Class of 1959, and Eileen Geller in memory of Mr. Geller’s parents, Samuel and Sue Geller. This scholarship assists students who might not otherwise be able to obtain the advantage of a college education. Awarded to a freshman in the Corps of Cadets with demonstrated financial need, acceptable academic standards and a singular redeeming virtue in a specific field of endeavor or extra-curricular activity. The scholarship will be renewed on an annual basis through the student’s senior year as long as the criteria for the award continues to be met.

GEORGE F. AND ETHEL W. GIERING SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1979 by George F. Giering in memory and in honor of his parents, George F. and Ethel W. Giering. Preference is given to students who live in the State of Connecticut.

LT JOHN GODFREY SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1968 by contributions and gifts from his parents, alumni and friends in memory of John Godfrey, Jr., Class of 1966.

GOKEY/DUNHAM FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP The Gokey/Dunham Family Scholarship is awarded annually to students who without scholarship support might not be able to obtain a college education. This scholarship is open to all Norwich undergraduates who are residents of Vermont and demonstrate a strong financial need. Preference of this scholarship is given to students who are first generation college attendees. This scholarship is renewable through the senior year.

HAZEL N. GOYETTE SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1989 by the estate of Hazel N. Goyette. The income is used for the purpose of providing financial aid to students at Norwich University.

ROSAMOND F. GRANGER SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1985 for the aid of students in memory of Rosamond F. Granger.

CAPTAIN THOMAS O. GREENOUGH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1997 by the will of Captain Thomas O. Greenough, former faculty member, for the purpose of providing scholarships for students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and scholastic ability.

GRIDIRON SCHOLARSHIPS Established in 1971 by the Gridiron Foundation of Washington, D.C., in memory of John O’Laughlin, trustee from 1933-1942, for students pursuing courses in political science and journalism with a preference for minority students.

NANCY TUTHERLY GRIFFIN SCHOLARSHIP The Nancy Tutherly Griffin Scholarship was established in 1976 by Nancy’s family and friends. Before her accidental death in 1975, Nancy dedicated her life to the improvement of women’s rights. In recognition of her life’s work, this scholarship is offered with a preference for women students. Additionally, a portion of the Fund may be used for the purchase of books on the topics of women’s issues.

HARRY T. HALE ’55 SCHOLARSHIP The Harry T. Hale ’55 Scholarship was established in 2003 by the family of Harry T. Hale. It is awarded annually to a student majoring in Engineering and is open to students of all class years. The selected student should be involved in campus activities and should demonstrate financial need.

HALLAM-BARNETT SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1969 by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hallam, Class of 1944 and former trustee, in memory of their parents, George and Gladys Hallam and Frank and Louise Barnett. Awarded to students on the basis of all- around quality with preference to lineal descendants of the Hallams and Barnetts.

DONALD R. HANNUM ’51 SCHOLARSHIP The Donald R. Hannum ’51 Scholarship was established in 2004 by the estate of Don Hannum and supplemented by gifts from Don’s family and friends. Scholarships are awarded to students majoring in Mechanical Engineering who maintain a GPA of 2.5, and demonstrate financial need.

LULA RYAN HANSEN SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1992 by Mr. and Mrs. Herman Eichorn in honor of Mrs. Eichorn’s mother. The scholarship is used for women with preference given to women from Vermont.

MG ERNEST N. HARMON SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1979 in memory of MG Ernest N. Harmon. General Harmon served as president of Norwich University from 1950 until his retirement in 1965. As a Norwich cadet, as Commandant, and as President, General Harmon’s leadership inspired thousands of Norwich students. The scholarship is for the benefit of deserving students in the Corps of Cadets.

THE LORING HART SCHOLARSHIP Established by Dr. Jon H. Larson ’63, the scholarship shall be made available to all matriculated undergraduate students who have demonstrated need. The recipient may be a freshman or an upperclassman.

WILLIAM RANDOLPH HEARST ENDOWMENT FOR MINORITY STUDENTS Established in 1991 by the Hearst Foundations in memory of William Randolph Hearst. It provides Funds for two scholarships for disadvantaged youth, including Native Americans and other minority students, with preference given to students from Vermont.

GRAHAM A. HIGGINS SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1997 in memory of their son, Graham A. Higgins ’90, by Peter and Priscilla Higgins. The scholarship is awarded to a member of the Corps of Cadets in their junior or senior year with preference given to candidates who are pursuing a career in naval aviation.

WILLIAM HIGGINS, III SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1975 by his family in memory of Cadet Captain William A. Higgins, III, Class of 1974, whose degree in Civil Engineering was awarded posthumously. The scholarship recipient must be a junior or senior member of the Corps of Cadets pursuing a degree in one of the engineering disciplines. The recipients shall exhibit a high degree of devotion to the Corps, to the University and to the United States of America.

DAVID B. HOLLIS SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1977 by David B. Hollis, Jr., Class of 1922. Its purpose, in Mr. Hollis’ words, is “to help some worthy students get an education and in so doing bring credit to Norwich.”

DIXIE B. AND RUTH C. HOLLIS SCHOLARSHIP Named after David B. Hollis, Jr., Class of 1922, and his wife Ruth. This scholarship is awarded to cadets who demonstrate leadership qualities and commitment to academics. The amount of the scholarship varies based on student talents, abilities, and merits.

THE CHARLES A. HOLDEN SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2005 by Charles A. Holden, Jr. Class of 1967. Preference is given first to student (s) from Eastern Massachusetts. If a student from Eastern Massachusetts is not available, preference will be given to student(s) from Canada, and then to a student(s) from New England. Scholarships are awarded to one or more incoming students who have demonstrated an interest in being active in campus activities. This scholarship may be renewed through the student's senior year if the student has had a positive impact on the college community through involvement in meaningful campus and/or community activities.

NORMAN C. HOOPER Class of 1912 SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2002 by the will of Evelyn Stenstream, longtime friend of Norwich University. This scholarship is awarded to good, deserving students.

HORSEMEN OF ’42 SCHOLARSHIP The Horsemen of '42 Scholarship is awarded to a student in the Corps of Cadets with good academic standing and demonstrated financial need. Preference is given to students who do not have an ROTC Scholarship and exhibit an outstanding aptitude for military service. Preference is also given to students who have an interest in the cavalry and history of Norwich University.

RICHARD HOSMER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2002 by Caroline Hosmer in memory of her husband Richard Hosmer, Class of 1934, with the assistance of family members and friends. Preference is given to members of the Corps of Cadets majoring in Engineering.

JOHN AND EMMA HURLEY SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1995 by the estate of John and Emma Hurley, Class of 1932, to provide unrestricted scholarship aid to students enrolled at Norwich University.

STEPHANIE M. HURLEY SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2009 by friends and family of Stephanie Marie Hurley ’07, this Scholarship is awarded annually to a female member of the Corps of Cadets who displays the characteristics of leadership, honor and integrity. This scholarship is to be a awarded to a student majoring in Criminal Justice and maintains a GPA of 3.0. This scholarship may be renewed through the students senior year should they maintain the above requirements for the scholarship.

DONALD JENNINGS MEMORIAL FUND This scholarship is awarded to students who are active on the Mountain Cold Weather Rescue Team. Recipients of this scholarship must also be an active member of the Army ROTC program. Preference of this scholarship is given first to a senior, second preference is to a junior. The recipient must demonstrate financial need. If awarded to a junior, this scholarship may be renewed through the students senior year.

JEPHSON EDUCATIONAL TRUST SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2000, the scholarship is awarded on an annual basis to a deserving student who might not otherwise be able to afford the cost of an education.

LT PHILIP M. JOHANSON SCHOLARSHIP Established in March of 1992 by the estate of Lois Johanson in memory of her son LT Philip M. Johanson, Class of 1965. The income is to be used for the benefit of New Hampshire students entering Norwich University in their freshman year.

FRANK A. JUCKETT SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1957 in memory of Frank A. Juckett, who at the time of his death in May of that year had been a trustee of Norwich University for 27 years. The Fund was established by his son, J. Walter Juckett, Class of 1930, and is awarded annually to students pursuing a degree in engineering. First priority is given to an offspring of an employee of the Sandy Hill Corporation. Second priority is to a son or daughter of an affiliated company, Kamyr, Inc. Third priority goes to children from Hudson Falls, New York, and fourth to students from the Albany and Glens Falls districts. If there are no candidates in these categories, the scholarship is awarded on the basis of good character, scholastic promise, leadership potential and financial need.

J. WALTER JUCKETT SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1990 in memory of J. Walter Juckett, Class of 1930. The Board of Trustees established the fund from the estate of Mr. Juckett because of his interest in helping needy students. Priority is given to academically talented students with financial need pursuing majors in engineering, science and mathematics.

JOSEPH KEATING SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1988 in memory of Joseph A. Keating, Class of 1956, by his wife Elaine together with gifts from family, friends, and alumni of Norwich University. The scholarship is awarded annually with first preference being given to a student from Peterborough, New Hampshire enrolling in the Corps of Cadets.

RICHARD L. AND BARBARA C. KEENAN SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2005 by Richard '45 in memory of his wife Barbara a graduate from Tufts University, Class of 1942. This scholarship is awarded to a member of the Corps of Cadets entering either their junior or senior year who is pursuing a major in Chemistry, Biology, or Mathematics. Preference is given to those from Waltham, Mass. Should a cadet from Waltham not be available, a cadet from Mass. may be awarded. This scholarship may be renewed through the cadet's senior year.

JOHN W. KENNEDY, JR. ’63 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2002 by Jo-Anne C. Kennedy and the John W. Kennedy Company, Incorporated in memory of John W. Kennedy, Jr. ’63, this scholarship assists deserving students who have demonstrated financial need and who otherwise might not be able to obtain the advantage of a college education.

PETER D. KNOWLTON SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1966 by Richard Knowlton, Class of 1932, in memory of his son Peter D. Knowlton, Class of 1964. Preference for the scholarship is given to Vermont residents.

KREITZBERG FAMILY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP The Kreitzberg Family Foundation Scholarship was established in 2004 by Fred and Barbara Kreitzberg. Preference for this scholarship is given first to students from Marin County, California and then to students from California.

A. RALPH KRISTELLER, M.D. SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2002, the A. Ralph Kristeller, M.D. Scholarship is awarded to any worthy student with demonstrated financial need who is a member of the Corps of Cadets. First preference is given to students pursuing science majors.

FRANCIS R. AND ELAINE LAFAYETTE SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1999 by Francis R., Class of 1945, and Elaine Lafayette. Preference is given to a Vermont student in the Corps of Cadets taking engineering course work. The student must have demonstrated financial need.

JOHN AUGUST LANGENFELD ’64 SCHOLARSHIP The John August Langenfeld ’64 Scholarship was established in 2005 by John’s friends and classmates. In recognition of John’s accomplishments while a student at Norwich, particularly his degree in Electrical Engineering, this scholarship is offered to members of the Corps of Cadets pursuing Electrical Engineering majors.

GREGG LEA SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1977 by Mr. and Mrs. William H. Lea, Jr., Class of 1950, in memory of their son, Cadet Major Gregg W. Lea who died on March 15, 1977. His baccalaureate degree was awarded posthumously. The initial contribution by the Leas has been increased by the gifts of classmates, by his friends, and by other family members. Preference is given to incoming members of the freshmen class, with outstanding moral character and a demonstrated concern for others, a 2.5 GPA, as well as demonstrated financial need. The renewal of the scholarship will depend on the student(s) maintaining the above stated criteria and involvement in University student life.

LINDSAY SCHOLARSHIP The Lindsay Scholarship is offered annually to assist students in the pursuit of higher education.

HENRY LISOWSKI ’44 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP The Henry Lisowski ’44 Scholarship is awarded to students who rank in the top 20% of their class with demonstrated financial need and who show leadership and determination.

MR. & MRS. ALAN T. LOCKARD ‘44 SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2001 by Charles A. Lockard in memory of his father Alan T. Lockard, Class of 1944. This scholarship is awarded to members of the Corps of Cadets entering their junior year and majoring in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or Electrical Engineering. Students must maintain a GPA of 2.75 or better and have demonstrated financial need.

LT. JAMES A. LOGAN POST 6800 VFW SCHOLARSHIP The Lt. James A. Logan Post 6800 VFW Scholarship is awarded annually to an incoming senior who plans to commission upon graduation. This student may be an active member in the Corps of Cadets or actively participating in one of the ROTC programs at Norwich. The student must be a citizen of the United States. Preference of this scholarship is first given to students from Somerville, Massachusetts, then to students from any of the following towns in Massachusetts: Medford, Arlington, Cambridge, Charlestown, or Watertown. If there is no student available from these towns, the scholarship may then be awarded to a student from the State of Massachusetts.

LOTZ FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1985, the Lotz Family Scholarship is provided to a student who is seeking a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. The student may be a freshman or upperclassman. Recipients will possess a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The student must have demonstrated financial need.

DAVID AND NINA LUCE FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP The scholarship was established in 2004 by David W. Luce, Class of 1954, and Nina E. Luce, in memory of Alexander Walker Luce, head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, 1957 through 1964, and Gladness Wharton Luce. The scholarship is awarded to juniors or seniors majoring in either Mechanical, Civil or Electrical Engineering with a preference for members of the Corps of Cadets. Recipients must demonstrate the creative thought process necessary to become outstanding innovative design engineers as determined by the Division of Engineering. Scholarships are available for up to two students per year, and may be renewed provided the student continues to meet the scholarship criteria.

BRENDAN MACDONALD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP The Brendan MacDonald Memorial Scholarship was established in 2004 by Robert and Lou Ellen MacDonald in memory of their son, Brendan. This scholarship is awarded to members of India Company in their sophomore, junior or senior year with students from Massachusetts receiving preference. To be eligible, students must be in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need.

MACK SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1993 by Robert Mack, Class of 1964, to be awarded to a student of need within or entering the Corps of Cadets with a major in English or Business.

ROLAND C. MARCH, JR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1997 in memory of Roland C. March, Jr., Class of 1942, by his brother Hugh N. March, Class of 1951. Roland served on the Norwich Board of Fellows and Alumni Association. Awards are made annually to students enrolled at Norwich University in the Corps of Cadets with preference being given to students from Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

TED MARSDEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2010 through the estate of Edwin "Ted" L. Marsden and through the generosity of friends and family who Ted impacted. This scholarship was established to honor the memory of Ted, a former faculty member in the School of Mathematics and Sciences, mentor and longtime friend of Norwich University. The Scholarship is awarded annually to one or more students majoring in mathematics. Preference of this scholarship is given to those students who demonstrate characteristics often shown by Ted: compassion for others, willing to give a helping hand, the potential to succeed and a passion for mathematics. Should the student(s) continue to meet all requirements, this scholarship may be renewed through their senior year.

WALTER G. AND KATHERINE M. MCCRACKEN SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1990 in memory of Walter G. and Katherine M. McCracken by their son, Douglas M. McCracken, Class of 1970. The scholarship is restricted to a student in the Corps of Cadets.

NORWICH UNIVERSITY RECIPIENTS SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is awarded to students who are currently enrolled in any of the ROTC branches at Norwich University. This scholarship may be renewed on an annual basis through the student’s senior year as long as the student remains in good academic standing.

METCALF & EDDY – BOSTON POST, SOCIETY OF AMERICAN MILITARY ENGINEERS SCHOLARSHIP This permanent endowed scholarship fund was established in 1989. The earnings of the fund provide an annual scholarship for a student enrolled in civil or environmental engineering, science or construction management disciplines. Preference is given to students likely to be commissioned through the ROTC program.

THE METROPOLITAN NYC ALUMNI CLUB SCHOLARSHIP IN MEMORY OF WALTER N. LEVY ‘63 Established in 2001 by the Metropolitan New York City Alumni Club in memory of Walter Neville Levy, Class of 1963. 2nd Lt. Levy, a New York City resident, was the first Norwich graduate to be killed in action in Vietnam. The scholarship is awarded to a senior and/or junior in the Corps of Cadets who has demonstrated financial need and good academic standing. The recipient must be from the metropolitan New York City geographic area.

JOSEPH A. MILANO, JR. SCHOLARSHIP A.K.A. JOSEPH MILANO MERIT SCHOLARSHIP The Milano Scholarship was established in 1982. Preferences are given to: graduates of St. John’s Preparatory School of Danvers, Massachusetts, and then to high school students from Massachusetts. The student should show a demonstrated financial need.

PETER L. MOLINARI SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1986 in memory of Peter L. Molinari, Class of 1932, to be awarded to students with demonstrated financial need.

ALBERT C. MOLTER SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1991 in memory of Albert C. Molter, Sr., Class of 1928, by his wife, Emma, family, and friends. Because of their interest and concern for young people and education the Molters earmarked a memorial gift for scholarship.

KATE MOSKAL ’95 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP The Kate Moskal ’95 Memorial Scholarship was established in 2005 in Kate’s memory by Al Moskal ’67 and Robert Moskal. Scholarships are awarded to female members of the Corps of Cadets who demonstrate financial need.

THOMAS JOHN NAZZARO SCHOLARSHIP The Thomas John Nazzaro Scholarship was established in 2001 by John Nazzaro, Ph.D., in memory of his son, Thomas (1982-1999). This scholarship is awarded annually to lineal descendants of the 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments, known as the “Buffalo Soldiers,” with preference given to lineal descendants of the United States Military Academy Cavalry Detachment at West Point, New York.

NORTHFIELD SAVINGS BANK FOUNDER’S AWARD Established in 1993 in honor of the Reverend Edward J. Bourns, Ph.D., 5th president of Norwich University from 1850-1865 and founder of the Northfield Savings Bank in 1867. The scholarship is awarded to a student with demonstrated financial need within the service communities of the bank.

NORTHFIELD SAVINGS BANK SCHOLARSHIP The Northfield Savings Bank Scholarship was established in 1994 by the Northfield Savings Bank and the Norwich alumni and Vermont business leaders. The Northfield Savings Bank Scholarship is awarded to one student who resides in the service area of the Northfield Savings Bank (from Central Vermont or Chittenden County), and this award is formally presented at the annual NU/NSB Golf Tournament or similar event.

NORTH SHORE SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1983 by Mike Frangos, Class of 1952, and James Abare, Class of 1957, to assist a student or students from the North Shore area of Massachusetts. Preference is given to students from Essex County with consideration given to students from adjacent cities and towns. Preference is given to members of the Corps of Cadets with consideration given to members of the civilian student body. Students are required to carry a 2.5 GPA and must demonstrate financial need. The scholarship is open to all classes including first year students.

NURFC SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2005 with a challenge gift from Alan ’75 and Cynthia ’75 DeForest along with gifts from former players and friends of the Norwich Rugby Club, Scholarships are awarded to one or more incoming students who actively participate in the Norwich University Rugby Club. The scholarship may be renewed for students who continue to participate in Rugby.

THOMAS HENRY OGIBA SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1997 by James and Paula Ogiba in memory of their son, Cadet Thomas Henry Ogiba, Class of 1997, who died on August 11, 1996. Family, friends and classmates joined with the family to make this scholarship possible. Preference for scholarship awards is for an incoming member of the Corps of Cadets with strong academic standing and demonstrated financial need.

FRANK E. PACKARD SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1974 by the will of Frank E. Packard, Class of 1921.

PARKIN SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1998 in honor of Robert A. Parkin, Class of 1959 and Leslie Parkin-Corwin, VC Class of 1962. The income is used to fund an annual scholarship for a student with demonstrated financial need.

MAJOR GEN JOHN PATTON WAR AND PEACE SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2006 by Major General John S. Patton, USAF (Ret.) and Professor Mary Frances M. Patton, this scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in Studies in War and Peace. The recipient must demonstrate academic success and financial need.

DAVID M. PAUL ’52 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship was established in 2012 by the David M. Paul Family Foundation, to honor the memory of David M. Paul ‘52. The scholarship is awarded to one or more student majoring in Engineering.

PETROCELLI FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2003 by John Petrocelli, Sr., and his sons John ’74, Jim ’76, Joe ’81, and Jerome ’84, the Petrocelli Family Scholarship is awarded to a member of the Norwich University Corps of Cadets in his/her junior year. The recipient must be an active member of the Air Force ROTC program at Norwich, have an overall GPA of at least 2.75 and demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to students from the metropolitan New York or Long Island areas. If no student from these areas meets the above-stated criteria, this scholarship will be made available to students from any geographic area who otherwise qualify.

HENRY MOSES PHILLIPS SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1950 by the will of Henry Alexander Phillips of Hoboken, New Jersey, in memory of his father, Henry Moses Phillips, Class of 1864.

STEPHEN R. PORCELLA ’57 SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2001 in memory of Stephen R. Porcella, Class of 1957, by Donald R. Morton, MD, Class of 1957, with the assistance of many classmates. Major Porcella was killed in a helicopter crash in 1968 during hostile action in the Republic of Vietnam. Preference is given to students who are lineal descendants of the Class of 1957, then to students whose parent(s) died while serving in a branch of the armed forces or another government agency (federal, state or local), then to students with demonstrated financial need.

COL EDWIN T. AND MARCELLA D. RHATIGAN SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2002 by Steven C. Rhatigan, Class of 1972, in honor of his parents Col Edwin T. and Marcella D. Rhatigan. Preference is given to students majoring in Engineering, Math or Science with demonstrated financial need. Where possible, the scholarship is awarded to students who have family members who have served or are currently serving in the military.

OSCAR W. RAY SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1958 by the will of Oscar E. Ray of New York City, Class of 1912. Funds are used for students of high academic ability, good character, need, and loyalty.

RENEE A. ROBBINS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship was established in 2012 by the friends and family of Renee A. Robins, member of the Class of 2015. This scholarship is awarded annually to students who are active members of the Corps of Cadets. Preference is given to students who are majoring in Criminal Justice and/or Computer Security and Information Assurance.

R. AVERY ROBINSON SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1985 by Anna Broadhurst in memory of her brother R. Avery Robinson, Class of 1929.

JOSEPH RYSZ ’67 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP The Joseph Rysz ’67 Memorial Scholarship was established in 2005 by Joe’s family, friends and classmates. This scholarship honors Joe and the friendships and life-lessons he gained as both a student and an alumni. Preference for this scholarship is given to members of the Corps of Cadets who demonstrate a commitment to community involvement and on-campus activities.

JOSEPH G. SABOL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1999, the Joseph G. Sabol Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of Coach Joe Sabol; coach, athletic director, mentor and friend. The scholarship is awarded to students who participate in campus activities. Preference is given to seniors or to graduates of Northfield High School.

G. MAX SANBORN SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1983 by the will of G. Max Sanborn. Recipients are nominated by the Northfield, Vermont Rotary Club with graduates of Northfield High School receiving preference. Membership in the Norwich University Corps of Cadets is also a preference, but not a requirement, of this scholarship.

ERIC W. SCHMIDT SCHOLARSHIP AND AWARD The Eric W. Schmidt Scholarship and Award was established in 2002 by Eric W. Schmidt to honor the memory of Lt. Martin J. Gavio ’49, who was killed in action in Korea in 1952. Lt. Gavio’s encouragement and financial support enabled Mr. Schmidt to attend Norwich University. This award is made to an incoming freshman who is a member of the Corps of Cadets, a United States citizen and has demonstrated academic merit and high moral character. First consideration is given to graduates of Point Pleasant Beach High School in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey.

OLIN SCOTT SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1920 in Bennington, Vermont by the will of Olin Scott. Funds are restricted to young men who are Vermont residents.

MICHAEL J. SERBA MEMORIAL FUND Established in 2006 this scholarship is awarded annually to an international student who has demonstrated a commitment to leadership through participation in extracurricular activities. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years if the student maintains 3.0 GPA.

ABRAHAM SHAPIRO SCHOLARSHIP Established by Jacob Shapiro, Class of 1936, and his wife, Alese, in memory of their son, Abraham, who died at the age of 25. Abraham Shapiro loved Vermont and made it his home. He also loved working with his hands. The scholarship awards, therefore, go to Norwich students or those pursuing a technical course of studies. The overriding selection factor is need and, where possible, preference is given to students from rural areas of Vermont. (Income is shared w/ VTC)

CLIFTON A. SHINQUIN ’18 SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1999 by the estate of Clifton A. Shinquin, Class of 1918; preference is given to members of the Corps of Cadets from New England with an interest in science.

BENJAMIN A. SIMEONE, JR. SCHOLARSHIP Originally established in 1984 by Salvatore B. Simeone and Benjamin A. Simeone, Jr. in honor of their father, this scholarship was re-named in memory of Benjamin A. Simeone, Jr, Norwich University Class of 1952. This scholarship is awarded annually to students who demonstrate financial need.

ROBERT J. SKINNER ‘63 SCHOLARSHIP The Robert J. Skinner ’63 Scholarship was established in 2004 by the friends, family and classmates of Bob Skinner. The scholarship is awarded to students from the Central Massachusetts area and then to students from Massachusetts.

SKULL AND SWORDS SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2007 by its past members, in honor of the proud traditions of Norwich University’s senior secret honor society, Skull and Swords; this scholarship is awarded to a rising senior who is a member of and dedicated to upholding the traditions of the Corps of Cadets. This student should demonstrate qualities of character, leadership, and academic achievement. Preference of this scholarship is given to lineal descendents of the Skull and Swords.

ROBERT W. SMALL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2007 in honor of Robert W. Small, this scholarship is awarded to an upperclassman student who has demonstrated the potential for success. Preference of this scholarship is given to students majoring in electrical engineering or chemistry. The student must demonstrate financial need.

LESSLIE W. AND RUTH POMEROY SMITH SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1994 by the estate of Lesslie W., Class of 1926, and Ruth Pomeroy Smith. Preference is given to incoming members of the Corps of Cadets, enrolled in ROTC programs, with strong academic standing and demonstrated financial need.

PHILIP DANFORTH SNYDER ARCHITECTURE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2006 by Anne and Kendrick Snyder in memory of their son Philip Danforth Snyder Class of 2007, this scholarship is first awarded to student(s) who are pursuing a major in Architecture. Second preference of this scholarship will given to students who graduated from St. Andrew's High School in Barrington, Rhode Island. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA and demonstrate financial need.

PAUL GERARD SOUZA SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1983 by Mr. and Mrs. Edmund J. Souza in memory of their son, Paul G. Souza, Class of 1984, who died during his sophomore year. Funds are used for scholarships for members of the Corps of Cadets.

PROFESSORS FRANK SERGEANT AND EBER A. SPENCER, JR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Established in May, 2006 by Paul Vincent Kennedy '71 and Rebecca Parfitt Kennedy in memory of Professors Frank Sergeant, and Eber A. Spencer, Jr., this scholarship shall be awarded annually to a senior in the Corps of Cadets who has demonstrated both 1) high academic achievement, 3.0 cumulative GPA or greater and 2) financial need. It is the donor's intention that preference be given, but not limited, to students in the Departments of Business Management, Accounting and History.

LLOYD STARBUCK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2000 in memory of Lloyd J. Starbuck, Class of 1934. The scholarship is awarded to a member of the junior class to be used during his or her senior year. Preference is given to students from western Massachusetts and to Engineering majors.

STARR FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1989 to honor Sepp Ruschp, first ski instructor at the University in the 1930s and later president of the Mount Mansfield Company in Stowe.

JOSEPH STEDMAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND The Joseph Stedman Scholarship Fund was established in 1953 by Annie C. Stedman in memory of her father, Joseph Stedman, Class of 1859. This scholarship is used to aid deserving students from Massachusetts attending Norwich University.

STEELE FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP The Steele Family Scholarship was established in 2001 by Ed, Class of 1959, and Karen Steele. Students qualify for this scholarship if they meet one of the following two standards. The first standard is for an entering freshman who is a graduate of the Stoneleigh-Burnham School in Greenfield, Massachusetts who is pursuing a degree in Nursing. The second standard is for an entering freshman from the Central Vermont area (with a preference for students from Waterbury, VT) who will be a member of the Corps of Cadets. Scholarships may be renewed provided the student maintains a minimum GPA of 2.5.

DR. FRED ELTON STEELE SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1999 by William W. Steele ’59 in memory of The Honorable Fred Elton Steele, Sr., M.D., Class of 1882, Trustee of the University from 1907 to 1927 and Vice President of the Board of Trustees from 1921 to 1926. The scholarship is given to a member of the Corps of Cadets of demonstrated good character and financial need. Preference is given to those who might not otherwise obtain a college education and to those in an engineering curriculum.

GOVERNOR WILLIAM W. STICKNEY SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1926 by the Honorable William W. Stickney of Ludlow, Vermont.

MONSIGNOR EDWARD J. SUTFIN SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1981 by Michael D. Krause in memory of Monsignor Edward J. Sutfin, Dana Professor of Philosophy and University Chaplain. The scholarship is restricted to a cadet who demonstrates an abiding interest in philosophy, religion, and fine arts.

BRIGADIER GENERAL WARREN E. SWEETSER, JR., USMC SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1984 by William Sweetser, Class of 1963, in memory of his father, BG Warren E. Sweetser, Jr., USMC. This scholarship is awarded to both a junior and senior. Awarded to a junior intending to join the U.S. Marine Corps who expresses honesty, loyalty, and spirit in the Corps of Cadets, who exemplifies compassion for others, and who gives a helping hand to fellow cadets. Awarded to an outstanding senior cadet who will be commissioned in the USMC upon graduation. The student receives a commissioning box containing the paraphernalia necessary for a commissioned officer of the Marine Corps.

JAMES E. TATKO SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1986 by gifts from family, alumni, and friends in memory of James E. Tatko, Class of 1964. Funds are awarded to a senior member of the Corps with demonstrated need and who has a GPA of 2.0 or higher.

GARY AND CAROLYN TERRY SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2001 by Gary and Carolyn Terry, this scholarship is awarded to student(s) who are members of the Corps of Cadets, and who demonstrate good character and all around excellence. This scholarship is renewable through the student’s senior year if a 2.5 GPA or greater is maintained.

ARNOLD THAYER SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1922 by a gift from Arnold Thayer, Class of 1876.

THETA CHI FUND Established in 1973 by the Theta Chi Alumni. Funds are used for scholarships, preferably for descendants of the Alpha Chapter of Theta Chi.

COLONEL FRANK TOMPKINS, D.S.C. SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1985 by an anonymous donor in memory of COL Tompkins, a trustee, professor of military science, and Commandant for many years prior to WWII. The recipient will be a member of the Corps of Cadets and a resident of New England who has financial need. Preference is given to residents of Massachusetts.

PAUL W. TOURIGNY SCHOLARSHIP Through the Estate of Paul W. Tourigny, this scholarship is awarded to a student(s) entering the Corps of Cadets. The student must have been born in the state of Maine, and demonstrate financial need.

USS MONTPELIER SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2001 by the proud Veterans of the USS Montpelier. Preference will be given to Cadets from the Montpelier, Vermont, region who intend to join the United States Navy. If no student fulfills both of the above stated criteria, the scholarship shall be awarded to either a Cadet from the Montpelier region or a Cadet who intends to join the United States Navy upon graduation.

PROFESSOR PETER DOW WEBSTER SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2001 by Richard ’52 and Eleanor McManus in honor of Mr. McManus’ mentor, English Professor Peter Dow Webster. Preference is given to juniors and seniors in the Corps of Cadets majoring in English. Eligible students from Essex County, Massachusetts will be given preference. Bachelor of Arts candidates may be considered if there are no English majors. Eligible students need to demonstrate financial need and must exemplify the spirit of community service to Norwich University.

EDWARD S. AND MARY J. WESNESKI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1986, the Edward S. and Mary J. Wesneski Memorial scholarship is awarded to a Norwich University cadet. The applicants will have a demonstrated financial need. All candidates will have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5. The recipient will be allowed to reapply for the scholarship provided he or she maintains the aforementioned grade point average.

WESTMORELAND SCHOLARSHIP FUND The Westmoreland Scholarship Fund was established in 1972 by the Board of Trustees in honor of the commencement speaker (of that year) General William Westmoreland.

GENERAL I.D. WHITE SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1991 by the Board of Trustees in memory of General I.D. White, Class of 1922. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees from 1947-1952 and again from 1972-1986. He believed in the Fundamentals of the educational process and in the concept of training the whole man, morally, physically, and intellectually. He was a compassionate man with a love of Norwich, its cadets, and its ideals. The scholarship Funds clothing for entering freshman.

J. WHITE SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship to provide assistance to Norwich students based on financial need.

BARBARA F. WHITNEY SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2001 in memory of his wife by COL Conrad D. Whitney AUS (Ret.), Class of 1951. Awards are made annually to members of the Corps of Cadets who are in their junior or senior year, with preference being given to candidates from the State of Connecticut.

CLINTON AND ANNE WHITNEY SCHOLARSHIP A general scholarship established in 1993 by the estate of Clinton Whitney, Class of 1929.

ROBERT A. WILLIAMS ’69 SCHOLARSHIPS Established in 2007 by Robert A. Williams ’69, this scholarship is awarded to a member of the Corps of Cadets from Vermont. Preference will be given to those students residing in Orleans County. The student must demonstrate financial need, and this scholarship may be renewed through their senior year.

MG LEONARD F. WING SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1991 by BG Leonard F. Wing, Class of 1945, in memory of his father, MG Leonard F. Wing, Sr., who served as a member of the Board of Trustees from 1939-1946. The income is used to fund an annual scholarship for a student from Rutland County, Vermont who demonstrates financial need, is in the ROTC program, and maintains a high school GPA of 3.0 or better.

GEORGE ’67 AND DIANE WISELL SCHOLARSHIP The George ’67 and Diane Wisell Scholarship will be awarded annually to a member of the Corps of Cadets. The student must be entering his or her senior year and enrolled in a major within the School of Business and Management. Preference for this scholarship will first be given to those students who meet the above criteria and live one of the following Vermont Counties; Addison, Washington, or Chittenden. Second preference will be given to students who live in the US Virgin Islands, or Camden County, Georgia.

COLONEL THOMAS H. AND HALLIE B. WRIGHT SCHOLARSHIP Established in 1999 by Lt. Col Thomas Wright, Jr., Class of 1975, in honor of his father, Thomas, a military and civil rights trailblazer and his mother, Hallie, an educator and civic leader. Awarded to students who demonstrate academic merit and financial need, preference is given to African-American upperclassmen in the Corps of Cadets, with priority to students from U.S. military families in New England.
