I wish a hearty welcome to our visitors and to tonight's match officials. I hope our hospitality meets expectations. What a cracking game on Tuesday against Maldon. They might be top of the league, they might have played 17 and won 17 but I thought we matched them in all areas on the field of play. OK, so we lost 2-0 but that wasn't a reflection on the game. Had we not spurned our chances I feel we might have got something out of the game. So, on to Brentwood Town. This will be an interesting game. Brentwood sit one place above us in the league and are just 1 point ahead. Their goal deficit is slightly better than ours so nothing much between us. Taking in to consideration the way we played last Tuesday evening , I am confident that we should pull off a much needed three points. Enjoy the fireworks tomorrow evening. It will be spectacular, believe me. We have played 5 games and 4 of those have all been against teams in the top six with results not going the way we all would have wanted although there have been plenty of positives. Some would argue (myself included) that when things are tough and you are playing against good opposition that is when you truly discover the most about your squad and the players themselves so actually we have learnt an awful lot about the group of players we have in just a few short weeks. Although we have identified areas of the squad that we feel need improvement, we are very happy with the attitude and application of the group as a whole with everyone pulling together in the same direction. I write this shortly after our loss to Maldon and Tiptree which, in a strange way, has left me quite upbeat despite the result. I felt the players executed our game plan well in the most and despite two poor goals from our perspective defensively we felt we held our own against a side which I believe will FROM THE DUGOUT comfortably win the league this season. Once again the application of the players could not be faulted and I felt we were just lacking that little bit of quality on the ball to create more chances or finish the ones we did create which is an area we are working toward improving in training. We now look forward to a big game on Saturday, too early in my opinion to call it a six pointer but nevertheless it represents a real opportunity to get a positive result that we hope will prove a confidence booster for our young side. It is however going to be a very tough game with Brentwood picking up 4 points from their last two outings which will undoubtably lifted their spirits over this last week or so. Once again the support was fantastic last night against Maldon and we hope we can get another big crowd that gets us into the top 3 attendances for Step 4 clubs across the country - a feat we achieved against Bury two weeks ago!
