Pakistan Response Towards Terrorism: a Case Study of Musharraf Regime
PAKISTAN RESPONSE TOWARDS TERRORISM: A CASE STUDY OF MUSHARRAF REGIME By: SHABANA FAYYAZ A thesis Submitted to the University of Birmingham For the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY Department of Political Science and International Studies The University of Birmingham May 2010 University of Birmingham Research Archive e-theses repository This unpublished thesis/dissertation is copyright of the author and/or third parties. ABSTRACT The ranging course of terrorism banishing peace and security prospects of today’s Pakistan is seen as a domestic effluent of its own flawed policies, bad governance, and lack of social justice and rule of law in society and widening gulf of trust between the rulers and the ruled. The study focused on policies and performance of the Musharraf government since assuming the mantle of front ranking ally of the United States in its so called ‘war on terror’. The causes of reversal of pre nine-eleven position on Afghanistan and support of its Taliban’s rulers are examined in the light of the geo-strategic compulsions of that crucial time and the structural weakness of military rule that needed external props for legitimacy. The flaws of the response to the terrorist challenges are traced to its total dependence on the hard option to the total neglect of the human factor from which the thesis develops its argument for a holistic approach to security in which the people occupy a central position. -
The Life, Teachings and Influence of Muhammad Ibn Abdul-Wahhaab 3
The Life, Teachings and Influence of Muhammad ibn Abdul-Wahhaab 3 I The Motivation Behind This Work This book is not one with a political agenda. It is meant neither to support nor to critique any contemporary regimes or policies.1 Indeed, the driving force behind this work is much greater and more important than that. It has to do with, first, the religion of Islam as preached by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) himself and, second, with the honor and rights of an individual Muslim, Muhammad ibn Abdul-Wahhaab. The name Muhammad ibn Abdul-Wahhaab (and correspondingly “Wahhabis” and “Wahhabism”) has been heard quite often throughout both the Muslim and non-Muslim worlds during the past two centuries. In reality, ibn Abdul-Wahhaab is not a man who is “shrouded in mystery.” His writings, as well as the writings of his closest students and descendents, are well-known and easily available today in virtually any part of the world. Although he is not shrouded in mystery what has been said about him over the years has definitely been filled with both fact and fiction. Muhammad ibn Abdul-Wahhaab was both a fellow human being and a fellow Muslim. As such, he has the right to be studied in an impartial and objective manner. That is, he has the right to a “fair trial.” No matter how much one may oppose his teachings, one does 1 This means that many issues that are bandied about today must be considered beyond the scope of this particular work. -

Annual Report 2018-19.Pdf
REGIONAL AGRICULTRAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CENTRE (RAEDC), VEHARI ANNUAL REPORT 2018-19 Dr. GHULAM ABBAS MUSHTAQ ALI FAHAD IHSAN, SAEED AHMAD Seed Farm Road RAEDC Vehari E-mail:[email protected] Web: https://raedc-agripunjab.punjab.gov.pk Ph: 067-3361690, 9201197, Fax: 067-3364428 1 INTRODUCTION Agriculture sector is an integral part of the economy of Pakistan. It is also a strategic priority of other developing countries for balancing export deficits and ensuring food security. To enhance and boost up agricultural production challenges of human resource development and technology transfer play a preeminent role in achievement of objective. Technology transfer mean a „system under which various inter-related components of technology namely “hardware” (materials such as a variety), “software” (technique, know-how, information), “human ware” (human ability), “orgaware” (organizational, management aspects) and the final product (including marketing) are rendered accessible to the end users‟. The pace of technology transfer can only be matched if the farming community is trained/ educated at the same speed. To institutionalize this activity, RAEDC was incepted in 1991. Regional Agricultural Economic Development Centre (RAEDC), Vehari has been organizing courses, which result in capacity building of the officers of the department as well which enhance the capabilities and skills of farmers, unemployed youth, women and labour class particularly related with agriculture. The process involves need assessment of the target populations, demand of the community, unfelt needs of new concepts and technologies. Teaching methods, course contents and training material is very carefully selected with reference to target audience. Teaching methods used in training courses generally involve lecture, field visit, hands-on training, group discussions, brain storming sessions and case studies etc. -

The HOPE Bulletin: September 2009 Bulletin —
Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful .......... The HOPE Bulletin ……….. Health, Ongoing Projects, Education (Vol. 4:3) September 2009 AAIIL Worldwide Edition Editor: Akbar Abdullah CALIFORNIA JAMA‘AT PROJECT: APPROVED BY THE CENTRAL ANJUMAN, LAHORE INTRODUCTION In this, the September 2009 edition of The HOPE Bulletin, we are pleased to introduce a new column, “History: Memoirs of Jama‘at (in the country under discussion)”. We have decided to begin with our Jama‘at in Indonesia where our revered muballig, Mirza Wali Ahmad Beg (1890-1971), missionary from Lahore, made a lasting impact within our Jama‘at in Indonesia. Captain Abdus Salam Khan, the author of the article on the life and mission of Mirza Wali Beg, has this to say: “He was not only a missionary; he was also a visionary and revolutionary. He was an ardent freedom lover and took an active part in the Khilafat Movement....” While covering this article we obtained valuable information from Dr. Zahid Aziz, Editor, The Light, UK edition, who has collected a reservoir of historical information about our elders of the Jama‘at. Now we are seeking from our worldwide Jama‘ats articles on the life and mission of our elite missionaries from Lahore who had influenced the growth and preservation of Jama‘ats in their respective regions. We would like to learn more about the life and mission of Maulana Sheikh Muhammad Tufail, Raja Bedar and others who had an impact in the growth of our Jama‘ats in the Caribbean countries of Trinidad, Suriname and Guyana. We also plan to cover the life and mission of Professor Muhammad Abdullah, and missionaries Mirza Muzaffar Beg and Hafiz Sher Muhammad who left a lasting impact and legacy on the growth and survival of our Jama‘at in the Fiji Islands. -
