ZooKeys 965: 73–84. https://doi.org/10.3897/zookeys.965.54461 Abstract A new genus and species of fossil moth, Miogeometrida chunjenshihi Zhang, Shih & Shih, gen. et sp. nov., assigned to Geometridae, is described from Miocene Dominican amber dating from 15–20 Mya. The new genus is characterized by the forewing without a fovea, R1 not anastomosing with Sc, no areole formed by veins R1 and Rs, R1 and Rs1 completely coincident, M2 arising midway between M1 and M3, anal veins 1A and 2A fused for their entire lengths; and the hind wing with Rs running close to Sc + R1 and M2 absent. -

B. Brodey and Todd Ramón Ochoa) This dissertation is a critical analysis and annotated translation, from Spanish into English, of the book Reglas de Congo: Palo Monte Mayombe, by the Cuban anthropologist, artist, and writer Lydia Cabrera (1899-1991). Cabrera’s text is a hybrid ethnographic book of religion, slave narratives (oral history), and folklore (songs, poetry) that she devoted to a group of Afro-Cubans known as “los Congos de Cuba,” descendants of the Africans who were brought to the Caribbean island of Cuba during the trans-Atlantic Ocean African slave trade from the former Kongo Kingdom, which occupied the present-day southwestern part of Congo-Kinshasa, Congo-Brazzaville, Cabinda, and northern Angola. The Kongo Kingdom had formal contact with Christianity through the Kingdom of Portugal as early as the 1490s. -

Test fit area to determine where Front Runner™ will be mounted. Measure the bottom lip of the front spoiler with a measuring tape to find the center. Mark center on spoiler, then align the center white line on the Front Runner™ and measure out to each end and mark that location. 2. Clean the area of the spoiler where the front runner will mount with the 3M Promoter Pad. Let Dry for 45-60 Seconds before going to the next step. 3. Remove an inch or so of the red backing from the 3M tape and adhere Front Runner™ to the edge marking on the spoiler made in step one. Double check your center mark before removing more of the tape. If alignment is good, slowly remove the rest of the red backing in small increments, applying pressure to make sure tape makes solid contact with the surface until entire Front Runner is attached firmly. -

American Museum of Natural History, online at http://research.amnh.org/entomology/spiders/catalog/index.html Last udated: 10.12.2009 INTRODUCTION Fossil spiders have not been fully cataloged since Bonnet’s Bibliographia Araneorum and are not included in the current Catalog. Since Bonnet’s time there has been considerable progress in our understanding of the spider fossil record and numerous new taxa have been described. As part of a larger project to catalog the diversity of fossil arachnids and their relatives, our aim here is to offer a summary list of the known fossil spiders in their current systematic position; as a first step towards the eventual goal of combining fossil and Recent data within a single arachnological resource. To integrate our data as smoothly as possible with standards used for living spiders, our list follows the names and sequence of families adopted in the Catalog. For this reason some of the family groupings proposed in Wunderlich’s (2004, 2008) monographs of amber and copal spiders are not reflected here, and we encourage the reader to consult these studies for details and alternative opinions. Extinct families have been inserted in the position which we hope best reflects their probable affinities. Genus and species names were compiled from established lists and cross-referenced against the primary literature. -

Poinar, Jr. Department of Entomological Sciences, University of California, Berkeley, California 94720 KEY WORDS: fossil insects, tissue preservation, paleoentomology, paleosymbiosis, paleoen vironments Introduction Aside from their beauty, insects in amber represent the finest fossil remains of the Insecta and offer numerous opportunities to study microevolution, biogeography, mimicry, behavior, environmental reconstruction, extinction, paleosymbiosis, and molecular phylogeny. Amberization (changes involved in the process of forming amber from fresh resin) is a gentle process inducive to the preservation of insects that are small, delicate, and soft-bodied. It is the most complete type of fossilization known for insects, and by preserving the three-dimensional form, color pattern, and minute details of the exoskeleton, such fossils can be easily compared with their extant descendants. The study of amber insects was initiated over 200 years ago with the fIrst investigation of the Baltic amber fauna and flora (10). Indeed, most of the descriptions of amber insects today pertain to Baltic deposits. However, in the past 50 years, workers have begun to explore additional amber deposits.
