Good evening and welcome everyone this league. It is up to Liam, Steve and I to this evening’s National League to determine, very quickly, who is North fixture against Hereford. A committed to that push for promotion, particularly warm welcome to who is not, and where we need to everyone, directors, staff and fans continue to build. We have scouts out who have made the long journey up watching two to three games per week from Hereford. It is not the easiest looking for those missing pieces of the journey on a Saturday, never mind a jigsaw. We have of course extended Tuesday night as we found out when contracts for Jack and more recently we had to make the journey to David so it can clearly be seen that we Hereford on a Tuesday evening last are investing in the future. #ONEPORT09 Welcome back to The Pure Stadium for today’s game against HEREFORD.

It was great to have a sell out of Corporate places for the match on Saturday and to see the “Padded Seats” full to bursting.

Despite the result everyone had a great time with promises to return as the experience was so enjoyable. Don’t forget that Season Ticket holders can upgrade on a match by match basis. Thanks to Les Rooney for the new sign which is placed above the entrance to the tunnel.

12#ONEPORT ONETOELEVEN When Liam selected his 1 to 11 to celebrate his 500th game in charge at the club it generated a lot of discussion as we find whenever we talk about our best eleven players. Nobody would agree all the time, thats what makes football so interesting. The diverse opinions, the favourites we all have and the different views on the merits of those that have worn our badge.

Why not have a go at putting your best X1 together in 4-4-2 formation based on the players you have seen down the years. Your favourites, the best, the most popular with you as a fan, maybe not the best but one you remember for doing something you will never forget? We will include as many “teams” as we can in the Matchday Programme. I’ve done this a few times now myself and it probably change every time I do it but to get the ball rolling (I have stuck to players from Non League Days that I have seen play) here’s my effort based on my mood on Tuesday October 15th!

Goalkeeper: Steve Dickinson-Mr Consistency Right Back: Martin Clark-cool & calm Left Back: Tim Ryan-You wouldn’t argue with him would you. Central Defender: Kevin Mooney-So reliable Central Defender: Scott Guyett-The best ever centre-half I’ve seen at the club. Right Mid: George Dewsnip-Probably my favourite player of all time. Takes some doing to keep Carl Baker out of the team. Central Mid: Brian Butler Central Mid: Tommy O’Neill Left Mid: Shaun Whalley-Cheeky and cheerful Striker: Gary Cooper-never to be forgotten moment with the goal against Hull City which was so special to me. Striker: Terry Fearns-Best finisher I have seen at the level we were playing.

I can think of lots and lots more players who I could include and I’m sure if I did this again next week I would come up with a few changes so don’t get hung up on it just have a go and send me your “best” eleven to [email protected]. #ONEPORT13

DAVID FRODSHAM FROM THE ARCHIVES Following the disappointing defeat at Gigg Lane Bury by the odd goal in seven we were on the road again, visiting the Barnsley Tykes at Oakwell on Saturday October 18th 1969.

It was not quite a top versus bottom game but 5834 spectators, the highest home League pools forecasts leant heavily in favour of predicting a attendance were present. No doubt there was a home victory that afternoon. Barnsley had won six goodly following from Rochdale to see if their side out of seven home games and with nine wins and only could continue their early season promotion push. two defeats from fourteen matches played they were They were not disappointed. Making a home debut for third from top of Division 3. us Chris Dunleavy put through his own goal twice We were sixteen places below them but we either side of half time and Tony Buck the visiting travelled knowing that we had won twice away and number 9 scored his tenth goal of the season. our eleven goals scored was the third highest goals 3-0 to the visitors and this time in line with the for in the Division. form book. The Barnsley programme spotlighted our number 7 the Barnsley born winger Roy McCarthy. Roy had left his home town to play his football under Don McEvoy over 5 seasons at Barrow prior to signing for us for the start of the season. He played for us only 34 times before leaving after a final appearance on April 24th 1970. Statistics reveal that he contributed 4 goals that season and if he netted the team did not lose and 75% of the time they won after a McCarthy goal. He missed playing in 12 League games of which only 1 was won. A popular winger. Roy did not score that day, that honour belonged to Arthur Peat who netted a first half penalty. Jimmy Evans scored for Barnsley and we could be happy with a 1-1 draw at a difficult ground to visit. On Saturday October 25th our visitors here were Rochdale promoted from Division 4 and doing rather well for themselves. Described by Club Notes as an attractive fixture Rochdale were making an impression and were six games undefeated and the Third Division's leading goalscorers with 34.
