#ONEPORT17 VISITORS CURZON ASHTON

We extend a very warm welcome to our visitors from Curzon Ashton this evening and hope the supporters, players and officials have a safe journey home.

It is only the sixth meeting of the sides with Southport holding the upper hand so far with three wins and two draws. Last season saw a 2-2 draw at Southport with The Sandgrounders grabbing a 3-0 win at The Tamseide Stadium in April, a game which included a goal of the season contender from Marcus Wood. We also met in the FA Cup with Southport coming out on top with a close 2-1 away win. Curzon finished the 2018-19 season in 18th place with 49 points. They enjoyed more success on the road winning on eight occasions compared to the five victories at home. They scored 25 goals away from home compared to the 19 at home. 18#ONEPORT THE EARLY DAYS Curzon Ashton FC was formed in 1963 following the HISTORY amalgamation of two clubs, Curzon Road and Ashton Amateurs. The newly formed club joined the Manchester Amateur League, winning the title twice and finishing runners-up in their first three seasons. Curzon have continued to progress year on year until Season 2014-2015 saw them compete at their highest ever level of the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division, and they confounded the odds when the squad, which had seen very little change in terms of personnel from the previous season, reached the play-offs and, on another never to be forgotten day, beat Ilkeston 1-0 in the final after knocking out our neighbours Ashton United in a penalty shoot out in the semi-final. The win meant that Curzon would take another step up the non-league ladder with promotion to the Vanarama , and successive promotions for the only the second time in their history to put them at their highest ever level in the football pyramid.

MORE RECENTLY Season 2015-2016, Curzon Ashton FC finished in eleventh place in the Vanarama National League North. This achievement was the highest the club has ever achieved. Season 2016-2017, Curzon Ashton FC finished in fourteenth place in the Vanarama National League North. In the FA Cup the club were knocked out by AFC Wimbledon in the Second Round Proper, the highest the club had achieved in the FA Cup. It was a titanic battle with Nash leading 3-0 at one stage. Season 2017-2018, Curzon Ashton FC finished in eighteenth place in the Vanarama National League North. In the FA Cup the club were knocked out by Stockport County in the Second Qualifying Round. Season 2018-2019, Curzon Ashton FC finished in eighteenth place in the Vanarama National League North. In the FA Cup the club were knocked out by Southport FC in the Third Qualifying Round.

THE BOSS IS... MARK BRADSHAW A familiar face to some of our supporters, Mark played two league games for Southport in November/December 2000. We were delighted to catch him at Curzon in April and he was another of our former players able to sing our NL History Book. Mark is a long-time servant at Curzon having coached nearly every team from U5s to first team in his 12 years involved. In his playing days, the UEFA B Licence coach was a pro at Blackpool and appeared for the England C national team.
