Professional Memo City of Kerrville 701 Main Street Kerrville, Texas 78028 (830) 257-8000 www.kerrvilletx.gov PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Stuart Cunyus, Public Information Officer (830) 258-1116 [email protected] Parks and Recreation Seeks Input for Movies in the Park 2019 Kerrville, Texas (Dec. 5, 2018) – The Kerrville Parks and Recreation Department is inviting community members to complete a short online survey regarding the 2019 Movies in the Park series. “This survey is an opportunity for citizens to provide their input for movies they would like to see in our parks as part of our Movies in the Park series,” Parks and Recreation specialist Rosa Ledesma said. Five movies will be shown, three at Louise Hays Park (sponsored by The Cailloux Foundation), and two at Kerrville-Schreiner Park (sponsored by The Bosworth Company). Choices for the summer series include: “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” “Incredibles 2,” “Peter Rabbit,” “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation,” “Space Jam,” “Wall-E,” “Beauty and the Beast” (animated version), “The Lion King,” “Surf’s Up,” “Oliver & Company,” “Pocahontas,” and “The Fox and the Hound.” Choices for the Halloween movie include: “Maleficent” (live action), “The Haunted Mansion,” “Scooby-Doo,” “Casper,” Tim Burton’s “Corpse Bride,” and “Monster’s, Inc.” The survey also allows options for additional input for movie choices. Introduction Growing up I have seen many films, but one film has always stood out for me: Corpse Bride (2005). As soon as we got the DVD of this film, I must have watched it at least 20 times. This film marked the start of my love for Tim Burton films and music by Danny Elfman. After Corpse Bride I have seen many other films by Tim Burton. What has always intrigued me about his films, is that the storylines are quite dark and often use dark colours. This insinuates that Burton’s films could be horror films,1 but this is not always the case. The question this raises is to what extent the music in his films features horror elements. The main question in this thesis is: To what extent does the music of Danny Elfman in films by Tim Burton express fright? In this thesis I am focusing on the music itself, because I want to find out whether it is obvious from the music alone that it is frightening or not.

    Hello Parents and Guardians of 6th Grade Panther Art Students, In my syllabus I mention that we compare and contrast the original folktale and movie versions of The Corpse Bride. The title may be a bit hair-raising, and the subject matter may appear harsh, so I am providing you with some information to help you decide if this is an experience in which your student will participate (there will be no negative impact on your student’s grade if they do not). The process in class goes like this: we read the folktale and discuss its meaning in class. Students often think the story is very strange, but not terribly unlike other fairy tales they have heard. Students often have questions about what anti- Semitism is, or want to know more about the history behind the actual events. Many students have exposure to the subjects previously, having watched many programs on the History Channel about World War II, and Nazi Germany, or read books such as The Diary of Anne Frank. Then we watch the movie. During the film, students write down similarities and differences about the two versions. Afterward, we discuss their observations and compare and contrast the two. We also learn more about the process of stop-motion animation, and do a brief comparison to the proto-cinema students saw in a previous assignment from the cave drawings of Chauvet Cave. Below is the text of the folktale, the historical context, and information about the film. Please notify me if you do not want your student to participate in this activity.

VICTOR'S ROOM - EXTREME CLOSEUP - DAY ·-.....____ We GLIDE OVER beautiful, shimmering lakes of color. PULLING OUT, we find the colors make up the patterns on a butterfly's wing, drawn in miraculous detail on a large sketch pad. VICTOR, a handsome 19-year-old with a gentle, slightly dreaming quality, adds tiny finishing touches to the sketch. His Victorian-style room is filled with drawings and paintings of all sizes, mostly of butterflies. There is one prominent painting of Victor with a friendly­ looking dog. The drawing done, Victor lifts a glass bell jar. A butterfly escapes, flits around the room and out of the open window. CUT TO: EXT. TOWN SQUARE - DAY We FOLLOW the butterfly on its flight around the town. The streets are cobblestone. The architecture is cold and severe. Hues are muted and grim: the butterfly is the only really colorful thing in view. Stiff-looking TOWNSPEOPLE walk along -- nodding very formally, and without warmth, when they pass each other. A church BELL CHIMES the first of four strokes. The TOWN CRIER strides into the square and rings his big HAND BELL. TOWN CRIER Four o'clock and all's well! MUSIC begins to grow -- a methodical MARCH. As the butterfly floats along a line of shops, we see: The GREEN GROCER... arranging fastidious little piles of withered onions. The gentle RUSTLE adds a rhythm to the song. The WATCHMAKER... checking and re-checking the large clock that hangs in front of his shop, resetting the second hand until it's just so.
